Editorial review from Citysearch 10/27/2012

There aren't enough positive words in our language to describe Dr Blanton and the care he gave (and is giving) my husband for a wound reconstruction following knee replacement. How many doctors these days visit their patients in the hospital twice a day for a week? Not many! Mornings he redressed the wound personally and late afternoons he stopped by to chat and see how my husband was doing. Now we're seeing him in the office and his caring and thoroughness is unparalled. A very special doctor! more

Dr Carlino is a brilliant, compassionate, handsome man that I am so glad I met. I am 5'4. Wt is around 154# so I am overweight. I needed a whole new rebuild. First he did my tummy tuck. It is still swollen but 85% better than it was 3 months ago. I waited to heal from that and now I am 3 weeks out mastopexy. They look almost perfect. I am just going to be 100% honest and tell you that this man is the best....... His personality is caring, sincere , and so giving. I hope his wife knows what a wonderful gift she has too. My expectations were realistic and he meet them all. I am just sad that I won't get to see him much longer for follow up visits as he makes you feel like you are his only patient and he is so down to earth. I am thank ful for him and the knowledge he has. He is the best !!! more

Dr. Carlino 6/13/2011

Dr. Carlino is a Genius. An actual genius. My body was a nightmare after having four babies in a row. My stomach was so awful that I looked at least four months pregnant no matter what I did with diet and exercise. My breasts were sad and saggy after nursing so many years. I thought I was a lost cause. I did a lot of research and finally decided to go with Dr. Carlino. He has truly changed my life. I don't know how he did what he did but it's beyond words. I have been an athlete all my life but my stomach and breasts have never looked this good. I'm in my late 30s and actually love my breasts and stomach more than I ever have...even in my 20s. It's amazing what he's done. I'll say it again, he's a genius! more

My experience was great, but outcome says a lot. 5/6/2011

I am now 2 months past my plastic surgery for neck and lower facelift, chin implant, upper and lower eye blepharoplasty. I have begun to sag again in my jowls and have noticed that my chin implant appears off center. Up to now Dr Carlino and his staff have been great, but I have not addressed my concerns. It took me almost 2 years to interview and pick a plastic surgeon. Even though Dr Carlino was the most expensive, I went with him because he was very approachable, had been in practice many years yet not too many, (ready for retirement) seemed knowledgeable and I couldn't find anything negative about him in my web search. The Specialists Plastic Surgery office was beautifully decorated, meticulous, and seemed furnished with all the latest equipment. The staff was professional and helpful. My surgery staff and the operating room couldn't have been more accommodating and comfortable. The anesthesiologist was an expert. I do look better, but feel I have loosened up way too much. more

Beware - they will not do predeterminations! 1/25/2011

I'm sure this isn't a concern for those getting ""elective"" procedures, but if you need something minor but medically necessary, beware that your insurance may require a predetermination and this clinic WILL NOT do it, even if you request it after trying to get the information directly from your insurance company. I've been burned before by not getting a predetermination, so I don't mess around with this....wish they would have told me up front because I wouldn't have wasted everyone's time with the consultation appointment (which incidentally took about 5 times longer than I was told it would). I will say that everyone was nice...as polite as they can be when refusing to do something that any medical facility would find routine. If you're planning to pay out of pocket for the procedure, I would guess you'll have a fine experience here...but if you're submitting to insurance, don't make the mistake I did. more

Survivor with a great experience because of this wonderful doctor. 11/15/2008

When diagnosed with breast cancer, I elected to have a diep flap. This caused a very bad necrosis in my abdomen. It was quite ugly and left a fair size hole after healing. My original plastic surgeon was nervous about touching it again. I went to Dr. Carlino and he was absolutely wonderful. No, he was absolutely fantastic. He was sincere, kind, and understanding. He performed a breast reduction on the flap, lifted my other breast and fixed the cavern in my abdomen. I would return to him in a heartbeat if I ever needed a plastic surgeon again. What a wonderful doctor. His staff was excellent too. They couldn't do enough for me. Two of my surgeries were scheduled at the hospital. The nurses love working with this man. One nurse wanted to be assigned to me because Dr. Carlino was my doctor. My last surgery was in his facility. Another great experience! My husband thought the man was wonderful too. He always took whatever time was needed to talk to the both of us. My daughter needs a plastic surgeon and you can bet I will send her to Dr. Carlino. Enough said. He took a really bad experience, which made me cry daily, and turned it around. I can celebrate being a survivor now. Thanks to Dr. Carlino. Pros: An overall wonderful experience. Cons: None/ more

The best plastic surgeon in Raleigh, NC 4/24/2008

I have known Dr. Oschwald now for 17 years. I've had several procedures over the years. He has got to be the best plastic surgeon ever. He and his staff are very professional, friendly, caring, etc. I couldn't possibly say enough nice things about them. Dr. Oschwald has also been very thorough in his meetings with me as far as explaining what will/might happen and the expected results. He's very honest and down-to-earth. And, if you're worried about scars, don't be. He's a perfectionist. Pros: very professional staff, excellent results Cons: can't think of any cons. more

Good E xperience with Plastic Surgeon in Raleigh 9/23/2007

My son was recently a patient of Dr. Richard Carlino's and I had not previously been referred to this particular doctor, only to the practice but I'm glad I randomly chose this doctor. I was able to sit in on the procedure and both he and his nurse made me feel very comfortable. I was even able to talk general talk to him during the procedure with my son. He made my son feel very comfortable also and even at our first follow-up visit, he walked into the room and greeted him like he had been knowing him for a long time. I like when a doctor doesn't intimidate you and can get down on the patient's level. I would highly recommend Dr. Richard Carlino to anyone.\r K.Rosser Pros: Friendly office personnel, great doctor Cons: Location more

The best plastic surgeon in Raleigh!!! 8/26/2007

I cannot say enought good things about Dr. Carlino and the incredible work he did for not only me but also for my daughter. Dr. Carlino not only does beautiful work but he is so understanding and has a great bedside manner. My daughter ended up having some complications, NOT due to Dr. Carlino. He was so patient and understanding and available. \r I would totally recommend him and use him again. Pros: very professional but not snobby more

Great doctor, wonderful staff 4/12/2007

Dr. Carlino was very professional and had a pleasant and caring bed-side manner before, during and after my surgery. He was recommended to me by a former patient. The scarring was minimal and I was given clear and concise instructions on what to do and watch for at home as the wound healed. His staff was considerate, and helpful in answering additional questions. His office was running on schedule for all of my appointments and there wasn't any long waiting period once I was shown to a room. I would recommend this surgeon highly. Pros: Very clean office, on time, easy to talk to about the surgery more

My experience with Dr. Richard Carlino.... 3/30/2007

For me, one of the most devastating things about being diagnosed with breast cancer was that I had no control over my diagnosis or the many upcoming surgeries that I would undergo. Although I did not have a choice when it came to my diagnosis, I did have a choice about the doctors and surgeons that would accompany me on my long, frightening journey. I believe that there is absolutely nothing more reassuring than knowing you have an excellent, skillful surgeon who truly cares about you and understands what you are going through, whether you are have chosen elective surgery or are facing an unavoidable cancer surgery. For me, this surgeon was Dr. Richard Carlino, and I knew this from the absolute moment I met him. After interviewing several surgeons, I found Dr. Carlino and his staff far surpassed all the others in the areas of experience, knowledge, compassion and professionalism. I am truly grateful to Dr. Carlino for the excellent reconstructive surgery he performed on me in October 2006, and the personal care, attention and support that I received throughout my recovery process. There are so many uncertainties, fears and worries that come along with a cancer diagnosis. I am thankful that my plastic surgeon, Richard Carlino, is not one of them. more

Take it from a survivor... 3/30/2007

I was referred to Dr. Carlino by my surgeon after finding out I was going to need to have a bilateral mastectomy due to breast cancer. Needless to say my reason for going to a plastic surgeon was different from a lot of people because I was going out of necessity not because I just wanted to ""look"" better. I was scared, nervous, sick and I had a lot of hard decisions to make. From the first phone call of setting up my first appt. I was treated with the utmost care. I was greeted at the office in a kind, professional manner. Dr. Carlino spent 2 hours with my husband and me explaining in great detail every option available to us while allowing plenty of room for questions, tears and just ""needing a minute to absorb the information"". He told me that being diagnosed with breast cancer was indeed scary and he assured me he would be right there to take care of me thru the whole process. He has treated me and my husband with dignity and kindness while demonstrating his expertise in the surgery he has performed and the care he has provided at this point of my journey. I am now cancer free and we are preparing my body for my final surgery. My recovery and continuing care has been outstanding by both Dr. Carlino and his staff. He has alleviated so much of my fear and continues to show me that there is life after breast cancer. I urge you to take to heart the reviews on this websites that are written by actual patients of Dr. Carlino's - not just hear-say and evasive inuendos by persons that have done nothing more than try to tarnish a man's life work by planting seeds of doubt to others who may truly need him and his staff, in what I would consider a cowardice, tacky manner. Dr. Carlino is a kind, caring, professional physician and I would recommend him to anyone. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I encourage you to call Dr. Carlino to make a personal, informed decision, rather than cheating yourself of receiving the benefit of his expertise. more

Celebrating a new phase of life 3/30/2007

I am just finishing my reconstruction and I just had to share with other what a great experience I have had. After fighting breast cancer I was ready to move on and put some of that behind me. So after much research, I selected Dr. Carlino as my surgeon for reconstruction. The experience with him and his staff has been incredible. They are always available. When I just had a question that didn't need a face to face I just contacted them by phone or email. One time I couldn't remember what something meant, I just emailed, and Dr. C quickly responded. He had always made clear the options I had when taking into consideration the many past surgeries I had had. He was honest with me. Helping me to understand that radiation, two past abdominal surgeries, etc all play in the decision of what is best for me. I have visited his office many times and found that everyone was interested in supporting me. He's got a great team. When it comes to rating ones skills, results, relationship, and life work, I would put him at the top. I am so excited with this next phase of my life! Pros: quailty of service, honesty, beautiful surroundings, caring people Cons: I don't have one more

The best in his field with a great staff 3/29/2007

As a breast cancer survivor, my experience with Dr. Carlino was that his surgical skills are incredible, but beyond that, he has a real understanding of the psychological components and makes every effort to provide the right support for that aspect of the struggle, which sometimes is the toughest battle. I am forever grateful to Dr. Carlino and his staff for not just getting me through a very difficult time, but bringing me to a point that I realized I was better than before. I wish this kind of experience for every breast cancer patient am confident they will find it in this office with Dr. ""C"". In addition I never had to wait to see the doctor and was always greeted as if I was the most important patient they had. I looked forward to seeing Joan (one of the nurses) because I knew I was going to laugh and feel great after being around the two of them. We all need to take time to thank the people who enrich our lives and too often we let the complainers and negative folks of the world take over and I certainly don't want to be guilty of that in their case. Ask their patients - you will hear all about their skills and their compassion. Pros: Ambience of office - warm, friendly, safe atmosphere. Quality service more

Trust this one. 3/29/2007

I am not a patient of Dr.Carlino's. My experience with him has been through my wife. As the most important person in my life, I have gone to every appointment with her. I have witnessed first hand, his excellent bedside manner and compassion in treating the reconstructive phase of a life threatening illness. Dr. Carlino and his staff are caring not only for the physical, but also for the emotional. Great guy. Great staff. more

Ask Questions 3/10/2007

I had a consultation with Dr. carlino for surgery. I found him to be pleasant. But, the answers to some of my questions about safety were a oncern and I have elected not to have surgery with him. I would suggest that anyone considering plasticc surgery ask about any health compliccations including.....well, the worst possible scenario of former patients. Ask about serious health omplications following aprocedure that took place in the facility the surgeon uses for surgery. I don't know if pla stic surgeons are required to reveal information about lawsuits. I had enough information without info on lawsuits.\r \r One tragedy is enough for me. Maybe thre haven't ben others but I didn't want to be number 2.\r \r \r \r more

If you're looking for a good doctor and staff this is where you need to go. In December 05 was my first time ever having surgery and Dr. Carlino and staff made me feel so special. They have very good bedside manners and patients for the cowards like myself. After my surgery they made my fear of surgery so much better. I recommend Dr. Carlino being the best around. more
