You cant go wrong with this place! Everything about it is great. Its worth every cent :)

Worst

I have been to Captain Jack's several times but last week we were there to celebrate my son's graduation and I have to say we were all very disappointed. We had the worse service...

Cynthia S needs to get her head out of her posterior. Otherdeb would do well to get the knot out of her posterior clothing. A good attitude upon arriving will most often result in an even better attitude when leaving. There is NO better service than Captain Jacks. If you need to be pampered though, just save everyone the headache of having to put up with you and keep your lousy attitude at home. more

Captain Jacks! More Like Captain Jack in the BOx 4/15/2012

Not a Good Experience! Jack in the Box is more attentive and less surprises. Most of all DOESN't RUN OUT OF JUMBO JACKS !!!! more

Captain Jacks ? More Like Captain Jack in the Box!! 4/15/2012

My Date and I - Started with making Reservations to be there by 9:00 PM. - this was set . Went to the Restaurant and was seated in 15 Minutes, which wasn't bad. But from that point on it was a Down Hill Spiral!!!! more

NOT LGBT FRIENDLY 3/13/2012

I have eaten at Captain Jack's many times, and have always been impressed with both the food and service, but after the way my friends were treated when dining there for a birthday, never again. THE RESTAURANT IS HOMOPHOBIC AND OPENLY DISCRIMINATORY TOWARDS THE LGBT COMMUNITY My friends (a female couple) were there to celebrate one of their birthday's, and while there were several other birthdays being celebrated in the restaurant that received the obligatory singing and cake, my friends were ignored, even though the non-birthday girl told the staff they were celebrating a birthday. My friends are classy, educated people, who know how to act appropriately in a fine dining establishment. When they spoke to the manager on the phone, this was his reply: ""well... uummm.... you know we are a family restaurant"" She told him she was there with her family and he said "" well... maybe we have a different way of seeing things."" I'm stunned and sickened that a restaurant of that caliber (or so I thought) would be so openly discriminatory, especially since they are so close to one of the largest LGBT communities in Southern CA (Long Beach) and undoubtedly have had a great many LGBT people dine there and spend alot of money. I will never eat there again, and will not recommend it again (I've sent many people there) and I'm calling out the management to make this right, apologize to the community and my friends, invite them for another dinner (comped, of course) and get out of the dark ages and recognize that ALL people deserve respect, especially when shelling out their hard earned dollars in your establishment. I'd give it minus stars if I could. more

OC's Best All Around Restauraunt 2/25/2012

Everything is great! Best recommendation I can give you is to dive in and do not look at the bread offering. You will not have room for all the great stuff. Personally I love the Prime Ribs, and escargot. Salads are very good and generous. The Prime Rib is so big you may not finish, but you should. Service is the best, atmosphere is great, canal view, and overall quaint. The place has been a favorite of Barbara Bush (yes that one) but very unpretentious. Just have a good time. more

My favorite place to eat in the whole wide world! 10/7/2011

Captain Jack's has been my favorite restaurant since I was a teenager. I don't eat the prime rib, (my husband does and loves it) but all other entrees have always been excellent too! The ambience with the nautical theme is wonderful and the music in the bar is very good. more

Captain Jack's serves the county's best prime rib 7/3/2011

Captain Jack's is located in a quaint little beach town called Sunset Beach on Pacific Coast Highway between Long Beach & Huntington Beach. The restaurant decor is very nautical and showcases some beautiful salt water fish tanks. The entrance and bar area are very dark, but once you get into the dining room the sunlight brightens it up. If you get a table near the windows, you can watch people puttering around in their commuter boats or paddle-boarding in the canal. more

Love this place, too! 4/28/2010

One of our favorite places! Great service, good food! A landmark! Pros: Always great! Cons: None that I can think of more

Love this Place 12/13/2009

I've been eating at Jacks since they were on Beach Blvd, years ago. Every once in a while they miss fire, but I will always come back. A little expensive but worth it for me and my family. And definitely not for young children even thought I've brought my children here since they were in diapers to college graduation. This is where they learned to behave in public. Red Lobster, Dukes do not compare to Jacks. Maybe Walts Wharfe, but not these other places. Mancha! Pros: King Crab Legs, Prime Rib, and Great sservice. Cons: Bring back the Croutons! more

60's vintage steak and seafood- for a price 8/4/2009

Captain Jack's has been a fixture in Sunset Beach for well over 40 years now, and literally hasn't changed a bit. Dark woods, cozy bar, live music and friendly staff can make for a intimate atmosphere. This is somewhat marred by the noisy environment , though we did go on a busy Friday night. The service was also quite slow, though the staff was very attentive once they got around to us, just a long wait between the attention. The food is tasty and well prepared, but basic- steak and seafood, including their signature crab legs. However I would consider it pretty expensive for the quality of the food and service, I've definitely had better, and even something like a baked potato is ala carte. Pros: Right on water, traditional atmosphere Cons: Noisy, expensive more

Worst meal ever 8/2/2009

Nothing unique or special about my last trip (and I mean my last trip) to this place. I ordered the Salmon and what I got was a huge piece of red fish, half off my plate, luke warm, and with no taste. I had to ask for lots of lemons but even that didn't make it good. The 3 friends with me ordered the seafood and meat combo and my friend's prime rib was so rare and only luke warm that she couldn't eat it. Never again for me. Pros: Fun place Cons: Extremely overpriced more

GREAT PLACE FOR YOU AND YOUR HUBBY!! 3/12/2009

My husband and I went to Captain Jack's last weekend, I loved it! I am a steak and sea food lover! the atmosphere was great, they have live entertainment by candle lite while you wait to be seated.. then when you are taken to the back to order your food you can see the ocean.. OMG THE FOOD WAS GREAT!!! we will be back.... Nothing bad to say @ all. Pros: LOBSTER, STEAK, KING CRABS!! LOVE IT Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Best crab legs, prime rib, and cocktails, but horrible management! 1/17/2009

This place needs to fire their two dinosaur managers... Carol and Bunny, what a couple of useless old stoves!!! Hacks. Other than that, best place ever... Tim Haley is the best. more

Great crablegs, poor service and looong waits 12/19/2008

Grew up in OC but sad to say, I never went to Capt. Jacks. I have since moved away up north, but my sister who lives in HB, highly recommended Capt. Jack's. She raves about the crablegs being the best in town. On a trip down to visit her, we all went there for dinner, including my father and step mother. The food was good no doubt, but for older, less tolerable people, the noise level and crowds aren't good! My father complained the whole time about the service, the noise level, the wait, the crowds, the parking, etc. He is right, for the price you pay (it's pricey!) the service should and could be better. Also their parking is basically nil. If you don't get there early, plan on hoofing it a few blocks and waiting awhile for a table. All in all, my sister was right. The food was really good and I haven't had better crab legs. But just be warned that if you are looking for a quiet atmosphere, to be served and seated promptly and service that's out of this world, this isn't the place!! more

Simply the BEST 10/24/2008

LOVE Captain Jacks - The service is fantastic, you get an entire team who can help you! As for the servers being rude unless you're a local? NOT TRUE. As a former server I know how it can be when a customer is told ""No"", I can't imagine anyone at Jack;s being rude for no reason. more

Best Crab in CA 9/9/2008

My wife and I have been going here on a consistant basis for the last four years, it is excellent. Highly Reccomended, especially if you are in the mood for fresh seafood. more

Locals Only! HORRIBLE SERVICE 8/6/2008

From the reviews it seems like Jack's is a loveit/hateit kind of place. WE HATED IT! We went for our anniversary but were rudely treated after being told that an expired i.d. is illegal identification. (My wallet was stolen last week and I'm waiting on a new license in the mail.) TSA at LAX will take my expired i.d. but it's not good enough for the manager at Jack's! Refusing my id would have been only disappointing if someone would have offered to bring me something else to drink (iced tea? coke? anyone? anyone?), but no, we were ignored the rest of the night. The food was mediocre; I've had better at Red Lobster (and not paid $4 extra for a potato). Finally, they overcharged our card by $20! Mastercard will be hearing about this one! Good luck at Jack's if your not a good-ol'-boy from HB or Sunset! Pros: Valet guy and waterboy were very nice Cons: ALL other servers and manager were very rude! more
