Helpful Therapy Experience 12/22/2008

Great option for those who want good therapy for a low fee. All therapists are either graduate level or post-graduate. Like all therapists, some fit well with certain people and others don't. The good thing is, if one therapist isn't a fit, they have plenty of others who you can try out. more

A valuable community resource 4/29/2008

This is a wonderful resource needed in all communities. If you need to see a therapist and $100 per session seems a little steep, then this will work. You do have to be open minded. The various staff are working on various levels of certifications\licensing, but you will be helped. It took the therapist and I a couple of visits to get acquainted and sort out what was needed, but afterwards good progress was made. Talking to someone here is better than talking to nobody and internalizing any thoughts and feelings that need to be expressed. I only wish there were more after\before work hours therapists available. There are some on Saturdays but kind of limited. You can't beat it for the price. more

Poor quality staff 8/16/2005

Capital Area Mental Health Center is sort of a last resort for people who cannot afford a therapist otherwise. Sessions (last I checked) cost about $20, but you get what you pay for. The people who act as therapists are often not licensed or even graduated---many are students, perhaps even undergraduate ones. The quality of therapy provided is so low, that you'd probably be better off saving the $20 and talking to a good friend instead. I felt worse after I left than when I got there, because my counselor was so incompetent and said things like "I have no idea what to say or how to help you...I'm not really familiar with this type of thing." more
