Fantastic vegan food, even of you're not a vegan 8/2/2006

I just ate here last night for the third time and had another wonderful meal. I am not a vegan - I love meat, chicken, fish - but when I see vegetables prepared in such an interesting manner, I can't resist! They have both live (uncooked) and cooked veggies prepared with tofu, seitan, and tempeh, and a variety of sauces and breading. The menu changes seasonally - you MUST have the sangria if you go this summer - perfect blend of flavor without the sour bite some sangrias have, and a bottom full of fresh fruit! I even got my husband to try it, and he is a regular meat and potatoes kind of guy. He liked it, too! more

Ok Option for "Healthy" Food 3/19/2006

Candle Cafe is a place I go when I am out with veg friends. I am not a macrobiotic fan, but there is a plate here. The food is pretty good (you can swallow it even if you are used to meat and potato meals). Don't save room for the dessert unless you are adventurous. I have found that the appetizers are better than the entrées. No animals here in the food! more

Great vegetarian restaurant 8/17/2005

It's so nice to have a veggie restaurant like Candle Cafe in our neighborhood. I have only recently discovered it and have only tried the club sandwich, which was made with a wonderful grainy bread, and the best "faux" mayonnaise ever, on the side, along with a good cole-slaw. I also had the coconut cheesecake, which was delicious. A larger circling of their super chocolate sauce around the cheesecake would not have gone amiss...Yum! I was in the mood for tomato juice or a "V-8" -type drink, and was a bit disappointed that they didn't have a tomato juice-based drink, but I did fine with water. The service was superb--and the atmosphere friendly...though not at all "elegant" in my mind, as one reader claimed it to be. There were several small groups dining, but also many single-diners...so no uncomfortable feeling if you ask for "a table for one" there! more
