we had one of the best meals of our lives last night at campiello's italian restaurant. the ambiance was top notch, the food was excellent, the service was also great. they have a limited menu with all authentic italian choices. the waitress told us that the head chef had spent time in italy and it really shows. we will definately be going back there soon! Pros: ambiance is great, everything was very flavorful and cooked to perfection more

"CAN"iello 12/15/2007

CANiello Pretty bad. We've been going here for a number of years and had good luck. Bad luck the last time but we gave it a pass. This time, unfortunately, confirmed this restaurant has gone down hill in a big way. Starter course listed as Alaskan King Crab with Penna Cotta sauce. It was actually very chewy, canned shreds of king crab mixed with an onion and vegetable vinaigrette. We also ordered the Bruschetta which was pretty good; however it was four slices of bread with four chunks of tomato that only covered 1/2 of each bread slice. The whipped ricotta served with it was tasty and ample. I ordered a house salad that advertised tomatoes, feta, black olives, hard-boiled egg, cucumber and red wine vinaigrette. It was a good sized stack of greens with a few pieces of each of the other items. No less than 5 times, while I was eating the salad, did a wait person ask me if they could take that away for me. The cardinal sin of the waitperson. For the entrees me wife had the penne with spit-roasted chicken, artichoke, basil, garlic and lemon. The artichokes had obviously not been rinsed after they pulled them from the can as the dishes main flavor was that of the vinegar solution used to preserve the artichokes. My dish was the ravioli with braised chicken, king trumpet mushrooms and butter. The dish was swimming in oil (not butter) and the mushrooms were canned. The filling in the ravioli was minimal. I had about three bites and left the rest. Highly disappointed and for dessert decided to go elsewhere. Get it together D?Amico?s; this is not your style. Pros: Good cocktails Cons: The food and servers trying to get you out of there more

Fried to perfection calamari and delicious guilt free pizza 10/9/2007

I took my parents for dinner Sunday and they fell in love! Everytime I am here, I always get the calamari for starters- its fried to perfection and the dipping sauce compliments it very well. We also ordered the sicilian meatballs and mussels for starters. I'm not too big on the meatballs because I think they taste more on the mexican side but my parents enjoyed them. We all enjoyed the mussels, sauce is excellent for dipping bread! My dad got the glazed short ribs, mom had penne w/chicken and I had pizza. I love the crust on their pizzas because it is so light and airy. My fiance's favorite dish is also the short ribs, I'm sure if my dad and fiance could they would lick their plate's clean! For dessert, we shared the warm blueberry tart served w/vanilla ice cream and a brownie. My mom enjoyed the blueberry dessert so much that she ordered one more to go! more

Service good, food average and overpriced 8/4/2007

Service was very attentive although waitress spent an age going through their 'monthly specials'. Decor had a chain restaurant feel to it, not expected at these prices. Gnocchi with sausage and tomato was average, as was the pasta with bolognese sauce. The recommended chocolate souffle was nothing more than a stodgy chocolate cake taken from the fridge; it should have also been served with vanilla instead of chocolate ice-cream . Crowd was late 30's to mid-50's on a Saturday night. I would recommend Biaggi's at the Eden Prairie shopping mall over Campiello's - better pasta and cheaper prices (at least $4 less per pasta dish). We wont be returning. Pros: No reservation, attentive service Cons: Average food, high prices more

We heard such great things 4/18/2006

Its unfortunate really. This place looks like it could really be something, but unfortunately its not. My fiancee and I stopped for dinner to find excellent service and a very acceptable outside dinning area. However this is where the good items ended. The drink menu is extremely long but contains very few beers. The food menu is extremely short and is incredibly cryptic. The bread served before the meal was nothing special but would have been slightly better with oil (had we been offered any). The Stuffed chicken breast was whole and required a surgeon to adequately work around the bones and the rosemary. The crab pasta portion was no bigger then my fist, yet still managed to become cold before I finished it, and came with absolutely nothing else. In short this place in not inviting, nor interesting, and especially holds no value for your dollar. Pros: Outside dining, Service Cons: Menu, Food, Price more

Once Was, But Not Now 12/20/2005

Just had a holiday party last night at Campiellos and I must say that the food is not as good. To say the least, I was disappointed. The service remains good, but the food has lost its complex flavors. I had a pork pasta with a Reduced" sauce. It was bland and nothing more than pulled pork in pasta shells. When I talked to the waiter about my disappointment, he said, We basically reduce the water out of the meat. Boy, doesn't that sound exciting. Oh well, another favorite restaurant has passed in to the history books. Pros: Good parking nearby Cons: Lost its flavor more

Overrated 7/21/2003

Campiello is an overrrated, overpriced restaurant. I had a single serving pizza that was practically tasteless . . . for $11, no less! Lots of atmosphere, but offers food of very questionable quality and poor value. Never again. Pros: Good atmosphere, Friendly, Good service Cons: Overpriced, Mediocre food, overrated more

Warm & Friendly 1/3/2003

We find that Campiello's has the warmth and ambiance of the finest restuarants in the Twin Cities along with wonderful food and friendly service. We have made this our "special" place for any celebration. Pros: Service, Food, Ambiance Cons: handicap parking more

a little taste of North Beach 11/9/2002

When I first arrived here from San Francisco, I was thrilled when I discoverd this place. Having been forewarned that the burbs if the twin cities would not be the hot bed of haut cusine, Campiello was a very pleasant surprise. It can get loud but, let's face it, we can't be too pickey around here. The food is fab. Pros: wine list, changing menu, great service Cons: noise level more
