We rented a nice condo for 2 years that was managed through Cameron Property Management. They do require a background check before they’ll rent to you and they are very strict on the due date for your rent. If you don’t want to live in an apartment community, you may want to check them out, as they rent stand-alone places and condos where your neighbors own the property for the most part. They didn’t raise the price on us while we stayed there, which was nice. They were somewhat slow to act on any kind of maintenance/pest concerns, but we had no big problems with them while we were living there. The only issue that came up was when we moved out. We made sure that everything was clean and that no damage had been done. However, they took some of our security deposit for “general carpet wear” which is actually covered under the NC renter’s law as NOT something they can take out for. We argued a bit with them and considered reporting them to the BBB, but we got so caught up in dealing with the house we had just bought that it got pushed aside. While it was only $50 or $100, it was more the principle of it.
