Ordered a pair of Demo (high end) binoculars, and, of course, concerned that they would look pretty awful (happened with another dealer). But after talking with one of the Camera ...

Great New York business with good old fashion customer service. 11/12/2010

My husband and I were in New York for the weekend, ready to take some pictures, because we never take pictures... So, of course we remembered the camera, but we just forgot the only other equally important piece. The battery. We went to Camera Land around the corner from our hotel. The guy that helped us not only sold us his one charged battery for free instead of snaking a fee out of us, but he gave us some solid advice about where to eat and not to eat in the area. Great New York business with good old fashion customer service. more

offered an exchange immediately 11/4/2010

Bought a NIKON D90 from this store last weekend due to great promotion price. When I got home and tested it later that day, I realised that the camera has a small defect/mulfunction. I took it back to the store the next day for an exchange. Joel - seems to be one of the owners - tested it out and confirmed that it was defective, and offered an exchange immediately. He also gave me 15% discount when I bought other accessories (battery, and filter protector) for the trouble [of having to bring it back for an exchange]. While I was waiting for my camera to be exchanged, I saw Joel was busy talking to different interested buyers, and offered relevant advice. After one bad experience in shopping with one of the stores in Manhattan - Broadway Photo, which is a bait and switch shop - I have mistrust of electronic/camera stores in the NY city. The good experience I have with Camera-land restores my confidence that there are still good people in NYC that operate legitimate/honest business. This is the store that I will go back for other accessories, even though it is a bit out of my way. more

What a fantastic find! 11/2/2010

What a fantastic find! I purchased a very hard to find Panasonic LX3 camera (they were the only ones to have it in stock AND not charging an insane price due to its unavailability). In fact, their price was very competitive & included free shipping. I didn't expect much, but after reading a review of them here, I decided to go with them for my purchase and I couldn't be more happier. I opted for USPS Priority 2-Day Mai from NY to Californial because of my immediate need & the item was sent out quickly . I received my camera a couple of days later than expected, but it was the Postal Service's fault (next time I'm going with FedEX)...in fact, when I called CameralandNY to inquire about my package, they were extremely helpful & went out of their way to try and find my package. Best of all, within my package was a picture of their staff along with a free sample of coffee/espresso (which was absolutely fantastic). You couldn't ask for this kind of service from a large vendor...CamerlandNY really goes out of their way to add a personal touch to every sale & if I ever need anything again, I won't hesitate to go with them. more

THANK YOU!!! You saved my trip!!! 10/29/2010

I came to NYC for a visit and realized I forgot my battery charger for my Olympus Pen camera. I was already at the point were I was down to 3-4 shots left. I called around the camera stores in midtown to ask if they could charge my battery. After told NO! or YOU NEED TO BUY A CHARGER, I called CameraLand and spoke to Judith. I explained my dilemma and she told me NO PROBLEM. I brought the battery in and she was kind enough to charge it for free. I was so happy I purchased a camera bag and an LCD screen protector as a way of thanking them for their hospitality. THANK YOU!!! You saved my trip!!! more

Prices are on the cheaper side 10/27/2010

The store definitely has a lot of photographic equipment. They carry all of the major brands like nikon, canon, olympus, etc. They even have digital cameras as well. The prices are on the cheaper side. You'll find it about 10% cheaper here in this store if you pay in cash of course. more

Cameras can get as low as forty percent off 10/26/2010

The store has a lot of different cameras for everyone who is an amateur, just starting out or a professional. If you're not sure what you are looking for the staff is very knowledgeable and will help you find what you want. The equipment tends to get very pricey but luckily they have a lot of sales. Sometimes the cameras can get as low as forty percent off. more

Service was marvelous. 10/20/2010

"Service was marvelous and prices were decent. I bought a camera with my dad who had never owned a digital camera. Hilarity ensued (he asked if you have to wind it between pictures). The guy who helped us (Reggie, I think) was knowledgeable, gave us tons of his time, and picked out exactly the right camera--easy to use and relatively cheap. He showed dad how to use it too. I didn't even give him a price range but he recommended a $140 camera. My dad and I clearly didn't know anything so Reggie could have showed us a more expensive one. I thought all camera stores try to rip you off but that was definitely not the case here." more

Good Camera Store 8/21/2005

I went here to have my camera repaired and was amazed at how much other camera stuff they had. They will develop film, customize and contour any shot you have into any type and size of photo you want, and have a great selection of cameras. They also sell tripods, printers, photo albums and much more. They repaired the shutter on my camera very quickly and didn't kill me on the bill. The service wasn't amazing, but got the job done with no complaints. more

Ed Paymer was the original driving force at Camera Land. Ed's famous line from virtually every store meeting is "The difference between them and us is us." With that as our Mantra, everyone at Camera Land is there to help fill the customer's wants and needs with the right product while educating the customer and not just handing a box over the counter, the way most of our competitors do. Our customers become part of the Camera Land family when they come to see us. How many NY stores can you go into and the employees know you by name? In the Eighties when Joel and Doug Paymer joined Camera Land the expansion continued. Camera Land is now one of the largest Sports Optics dealers in the country under Doug's leadership, carrying Binoculars, Spotting Scopes and Rifle Scopes.
