Best

My husband, son and I had breakfast there, and it was wonderful. I'm into healthy foods, my son is into eggs and hash, and my husband is into omelettes. We were all satisfied with...

Worst

Cameo was an old favorite. Emphasis on was. Today's experience was not good. The hostess turned into our waitress, and bumbled her way through it all. She didn't know how much...

Terrible 9/13/2005

Terrible. Waiter was rude, and almost non-existent. Pancakes were literally sopping in butter. Wait was incredibly long. Girlfriend's order was completely wrong, but she got so uhngry waiting for the waiter she ate it anyway. No discount or apology. And the prices are ridiculous! 2 eggs, 4 slices of bacon and hash browns - $12! Never going back. Pros: Can't think of one Cons: Food, Prices, Wait staff more

Service Recovery 8/5/2005

On a recent visit we were waited on the bartender. The order was taken and the food was delivered, however, the strong bread was missing from our order and the pancakes tasted very sour (they were perfect on previous visits). We asked someone for the missing pieces and 10 minutes later, we received our check- no strong bread. We spoke to the bartender and without hesitation, she gave us a loaf of strong bread and removed the pancakes from our check. Excellent execution of service recovery. Pros: Service, Food, Setting more

always a favorite 8/3/2005

Whenever I have a free Sunday or Saturday I always try to make it to the Cameo for breakfast or brunch. You just can't get breakfast anywhere else like it in Portland. The portions are large and the food is delicious (not like the cheap products you find at other restaurants) -- its real quality. Plus the atmoshpere is really unique and in the summertime, you can't beat sitting out in the patio with a glass of freshly squeezed juice. You may have to wait for a table or for your food on the weekend, but its definitely worth it! Pros: quality food, great service more

Such a disappointment... 7/30/2005

We have been going to Cameo for years, and watched its steady decline. This last trip has made me swear we will never go back. It started badly with the restaurant losing our reservations and then not apologizing. Then the waitress was rude. Not marginally rude, I'm talking obnoxiously rude with a - ""if you're not ready to order I cant just stand here and wait for you"" comment. Add this to the patronizing lecture in print on the table about how ""maple syrup is EXPENSIVE"" as well as the DREADFUL eggs benedict I ordered followed by the astronomical bill and I vowed to never return. How disappointing, because this has gone from being one of our all time favorite places to take people when they are visiting from out of town to an embarrasment. Cons: Worst service, Horrible eggsbenedict, high prices more

I want my money back 4/23/2005

After reading the recommendation posted here we thought this would be a great breakfast spot...sadly we were mistaken. Though we were seated quite promptly the hostess was nowhere in sight and being first timers (and last timers) at this spot we had to go ask the cashier if we needed to sign up on a waiting list or whatnot. Our table was fine but in a busy spot that was not very pleasant for eating breakfast. The prices seemed a bit high relative to other breakfast places in Portland so we were expecting something above ordinary. On the contrary our order of eggs benedict and French toast was sub par and uninspired. The quality and presentation was nothing that couldn't be achieved at home, but for $23, it left a bad taste in our mouths and a vacancy in our wallet. Go somewhere else!!! Pros: prompt seating, interesting building Cons: mediocre food, high prices, blase waitstaff more

Over Priced 4/9/2005

Typical over priced, average, NW district food. Big deal....a big pancake. Cons: Expensive, Parking more

You really are Falmily 5/31/2004

The first time I visited this resturaunt was mearly on coincidence, the ambiance was appealing. It is inside of an elegantly remodeled 1900 house with an aray of art an exquisite furniture. We were not immediatley greated and shown our seat, we were immediatley introduced to the owner who asked us if we wanted to take a tour! This kind of hospitality was like none I have ever recieved, and the setting is spectacular, not the mension the very attractice waitresses. If you like pancakes, there is a reason why they are called ""the arce pancake"". Bon Apatie! more

GREAT FOOD & AMBIANCE 12/28/2003

One of the very best breakfasts ANYWHERE! (I can't say ""THE best"" because of Cadillac Cafe's Hazelnut French Toast!). We had large family brunch--pancakes wonderfully light & tender--fabulous french toast. We loved the friendly service and were lucky enough to be seated upstairs in a tiny room which we filled up with our 11 family members! It was the perfect Christmas get-together! Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere Cons: Not enough locations more

Amazed 11/17/2003

I walked into the Cameo for lunch and was totally amazed at the wonderful lunch specialties they had to offer. My mother had the Long Life Soup which, she says, was fabulous. Upon our exiting, we were generously given a loaf of ""strong bread"". WOW! Pros: friendly staff, free bread, great value Cons: need more locations more

bland tofu scramble 11/11/2003

I went to Cameo Cafe Northwest to have brunch with family. I got the only vegan item on the breakfast menu - tofu scramble. (There is about 4 other vegetarian items on breakfast menu and a couple on lunch menu.) My plate was practically filled with the shoestring hashrown potatoes, which was the best part of the meal. The small serving of tofu scramble had a few veggies sauteed with soft tofu. It tasted watery and didn't have any flavor. It tasted much better when I mixed up the scramble & potatoes with ketchup and hot sauce. There are restaurants around town that have better tofu scrambles. My family enjoyed what they got - belgian waffles, bacon, eggs, ect.- so they would give it a entirely different review. The decor and house is neat, but there was a long wait on a Sat morn and the seating is crowded. Pros: had vegetarian items, service, decor Cons: parking, crowded, the wait more

What a Place! 10/29/2003

I have 3 children and we've enjoyed the Cameo for over 4 years. It has become a ritual. We've never left hungry and generally have to wait in line to get a table. Many of the patrons are regulars and its interesting to get to know many of them. The place is full of hustle and bustle with a lot of attention on service. We especially like the jugs of 100% maple syrup on each table. Their quality is consistent and have never experienced a bad meal. This is no to say that they are perfect but they do strive to make you happy. Pros: Godd value, Great Hospitality, Friendly Service Cons: need more locations more

More than Pancakes! 10/23/2003

Although I love their pancakes, you also have to try their specialty omlettes. I like their seafood omlette, when you can find them. Let me tell you, the Cameo's Fishermans Omlette is the best I ever had! Pros: Friendly staff, Good value Cons: Poor parking more

used to be good 4/19/2003

Cameo was an old favorite. Emphasis on was. Today's experience was not good. The hostess turned into our waitress, and bumbled her way through it all. She didn't know how much the ""market price"" acre pancakes were, she said there were three but only two came, she couldn't figure out what the coupon I was using said, she didn't bring syrup with our pancakes, then she disappeared. The food was good, but the pancakes had an off-taste of hashbrowns from the griddle. And the breakfast is pretty expensive. more

Lunch Only 3/24/2003

Lunch is by far the best meal to eat at the Cameo Cafe, as its the only meal priced appropriately. Their breakfast is horrific and considerably--the omelets seem to be made of canned ingredients, the hash browns are probably manufactured by Orieda, and their coffee is bitter. I expect more from a $11.00 omelet. Their service is always slow, which is nice if you want to take a long time over lunch, but annoying when you've been waiting for a water refill for half an hour. The long life soup is good, as is their house specialty bread. So consider the Cameo for lunch, but avoid it at breakfast. Pros: Relaxed Cons: Too Expensive more

Nothing but the best! 3/7/2003

I absolutely love Cameo's. I have been going there for several years and each time the service is spectacular. The food is always in abundance and the specials are never boring. If your very hungry and want personalized service, Cameo's is the place. Pros: Inexpensive, Location, Menu options Cons: Parking more

bland & greasy 12/13/2002

Had breakfast. It was disgusting. Bland, greasy, and an exercise in excess. more

Very Overrated 11/28/2002

I was so disappointed in what I had hoped to be a new location to have breakfast. There was no organization, total chaos, food all around us being returned to the kitchen because it was not hot, our waitress was lousy, out of four tables, our order went in first but was the last out. Pros: good n.w. location Cons: seating to close, over priced more

A true classic 11/23/2002

This was an outstanding breakfeast. In a tiny two person kitchen station the cooks marvoulsy delight with pankcakes so large they fall over the edges of the plate. I highly reccomend this reastraunt. more

Not even tasty 11/22/2002

This place is simply gross. I got the waffles, which were overpriced, and came with of all things whip cream with sprinkles. Um, why? Don't ask me. The orange juice was served in these tacky plastic cups. My friend got the steak, which was not cooked to order and was THIN and not worth the price. Are you seeing a pattern? I wouldn't reccomend this place in a million years. more

Monster Pancakes 10/19/2002

Ate breakfast for a Sunday brunch. The pancakes were delicious, although the oversize was overwhelming at first. Sausages and hashbrowns were just the way I like it. The service was excellent. more
