Disappointing and insulted 2/20/2016

Surely California Mobile Home Services can’t be all bad but my most recent experience leaves me absolutely baffled! I’ve hired them twice (April of 2001 and Feb of 2009) for nearly $3,000 worth of work, which included their recommendations of a new furnace and some additional piers. Let me say their contract specifically states, “Free semi-annual inspections on all work.” I recall contacting them once in the past reminding them of their semi-annual inspection, but can’t honestly say how many times they might have contacted me over the years. Okay, with some history out of the way, here’s my beef with their visit last week. Their gal called to say reps would be in the area today…you know the drill. I invited the reps to stop by since I might be interested in re-leveling. When Sean and Jake got here I made a point of telling them that I not only use more gas than any of my neighbors but that on a cold day my furnace can run non-stop for hours. After the inspection, Sean recommended $3,250 in piers, although they’ve done piers for me in the past. (No itemization, just an amount written on their card; giving me no way for price comparisons.) The money is in the piers…let’s sell them more piers. It’s impossible to say exactly what was done in 2001 since their $1,467 invoice only says, “Work completed on mobile home.” When Sean came out from under my mobile home upon completing his inspection this past week my understanding of one of his comments was that the duct work connecting to the furnace was laying on the ground. I was appalled that he didn’t fix it while he was under there. He said he didn’t have any duct tape, but also didn’t ask me if I had anything that could be used temporarily for such an easy fix. I used to take care of this stuff myself, but now in my old age and disabilities, I’m forced to put my trust in others. I tell these guys, “If it isn’t something you’d do on your own home, by God don’t do it on mine”! more

Scams directed at Seniors 8/5/2009

CMHS, Inc. did a complete all copper replate (with lifetime warranty) on my elderly mother's mobile home in 2004. The end of July, 2009, they initiated a call to come out and check for any problems, and "surprise" found a water leak under the mobile home. The employee couldn't determine where or what type of leak it was, but he could determine it was going to cost exactly $1,575. We know this because he wrote $1,575 on the back of his business card ... but failed to give a written estimate. He then scared my Mom that if she waited too long the leak would cause a much bigger problem if not fixed. I called CMHS, Inc. and spoke with Bill defended the employee writing the "cost" on the back of his business card, and not giving a written estimate because they can be difficult in determining the specifics until they "do" the job. When I asked Bill if that's all true, how do you then arrive at a price? Bill had no answer for that. He just continued to give one example after another of how difficult quoting jobs can be. I then asked about the lifetime warranty from the previous all cooper replate, and Bill assured me that wasn't the problem. He didn't know what or where the problem leak was, but they did know it would cost $1,575. I asked for a written estimate to be sent to my Mom. Bill was happy to send one out but it wouldn't specify parts or labor because they wouldn't know what the problem was until they actually did the job ... and that would cost $1,575. If it looks like a scam, talks like a scam and smells like a scam ... it's probably a scam! If this wasn't a scam against seniors, CMHS, Inc. could have corrected any misunderstanding. Instead, Bill became defensive and unprofessional. We are going elsewhere where they do know how to be specific with a written estimate. So should you. more

Great Job 2/18/2009

I shopped around for the best deal on new windows for my mobile home. I was supprised by the quality of the windows and the price was great! The installers Matt and Robert could not have been more professional. The windows look superior and I am VERY happy with how they turned out. If you are looking for any work done to your home i would recomment Cal Mobile. Especially for windows! WOW they look great! more

California Mobile Home Services 8/17/2005

My aunt recently had this company do a couple of jobs for her, and I was the one watching the place while they were there. She had them install new supports under her home, and they did a very nice job of that, and they also installed two new sump pumps for her. They offer a senior discount, and they did good work. The manager came to inspect the property himself, and every employee was very courteous and friendly. I would recommend them. more
