Because Calcutta charges a little more and looks a little fancier ON THE OUTSIDE than some of the other restaurants on 6th St., we decided to give it a try. The food quality was objectively decent; but what little flavor the dishes had lacked any trace of sophistication even when compared with the very cheapest Indian restaurants. Soup was served lukewarm. The menu and the waiter said there would be curry leaves in the chicken and lamb curries, but none were to be seen in those dishes; more importantly those dishes had some heat but little flavor. We literally waited an hour for our food once we sat down; I cannot recall ever having that bad of an experience in a restaurant. Another first: one of us ordered brown rice because the waiter told us that they had it, they served her white rice, and then the waiter insisted, ""In my restaurant this is the brown rice."" Tandoori chicken was okay, dahl was poor. Wait staff was unprofessional; water and service was hard to come by, and the place wasn't even particularly crowded. Chutneys were uniquely poor. If you value your time and your food, you will do better anywhere else than Calcutta.
Pros: Good Naan
Cons: Poor Service, Unreasonably Long Wait, Dull Food
