Cake - Weddings 5/30/2010

I just photographed a wedding reception at Cake and the experience was wonderful. The staff was friendly, polite and over-the-top when it came to service. The food was excellent; best tasting vegetarian lasagna I’ve ever eaten.\r \r Cake offers the perfect atmosphere for any couple looking to have a small intimate reception with your very best friends and family.\r \r The reception officially ended at 11:00 p.m. but when I departed at 11:20 the doors were still open and the party was in full gear. No one was rushed to leave.\r \r Highly suggest that you check them out!\r \r Chris-\r Photography by Christopher\r 215.264.6354 Pros: Ambiance / Food / Staff more

Neglectful service 8/10/2008

We never actually made it to eat the food because we were so offended by the unmotivated service. We stood for an half hour watching the 6 wait staff carry out no more than 2 items at a time when they weren't chatting behind the counter, while 4-5 tables sat open and/or unbussed. When we asked why more people couldn't be seated, one of the staff answered that the kitchen needed a break--in the middle of Sunday brunch!! Pros: Pretty space Cons: Management of staff & kitchen more

growing pains. 11/10/2007

The short story here is that management hasn't overcome the growing pains. \r Cake relocated from a little space to a much bigger one and modified their fare to include table service and a complete breakfast menu. I had brunch there one week ago. I was a little disappointed. I can overlook the fact that there's no hostess - although that's kind of a problem during Sunday brunch when people can be pretty competitive about getting their tables. \r Now the food - I ordered their version of Eggs Benedict - ""eggs madame"". The menu describes everything you'd expect (plus cheese) served on a Croissant. When It came out, my eggs were squeezed onto a half of a croissant. and there was absolutely zero garnish. no fruit, no potatoes - just a pretty pathetic presentation on a huge plate. I was a cake regular before the they relocated. They often ran out of croissants on Sunday mornings. So I suspect that this move was more a conservation strategy than a cheapskate move, either way - it's not classy - I would expect them to keep more croissants on hand, or update the menu.\r Lastly of note, when me and my girl were seated, there was already a table of 4 seated next to us. They didn't get their food until after we paid our check.\r This place could last a long time since the Chestnut Hill brunch crowd is eager for an increased selection of Sunday morning destinations. If Cake's management doesn't up their game, they're destined to be the solid 2nd or 3rd choice.\r \r \r Pros: cute dining room. Cons: limited menu. failed the eggs benedict test. service isn't stellar more

A neat new restaurant in Chestnut hill 8/1/2007

I ate at cake for lunch today and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The restaurant is located in an old greenhouse and was sunny and pleasant to sit in. The food was excellent and creative. The three of us each got different sandwiches and tried all three, and all were great. The service was cheerful and first-rate. I highly recommend checking out this terrific cafe in chestnut hill. Pros: atmosphere, food more
