worts place i've ever been to in NY!!! 8/17/2008

my friend and i came the other night trying to spend a nice time together and this is what we had: prices are too high, service too bad, the waiter didn't even know what he was taking about i mean i didn't even understand this waiter at all when he came with their ""special"" menu which didn't have anything special at all that's nothing our food came to the table late, we called the waiter up and he said ill be right back then he showed up after 10 minutes. the hostess came to the table asking how is everything then she started talking like she have been drinking all night at that point we just wanted get out of the place so we asked her for the bill when the bill arrived wow surprise service already included plus a bill up to $150 for 2 dishes and couple of drinks ,,, we payed it , when we left out waiter never said thanks or have a good night ,,well if i were you dear tourist or new yorker i wouldn't waste my time and money visiting this place when you can find real deals in NYC Pros: decor Cons: food, servive ,prices more

A truly unforgettable experience 4/18/2008

I have a friend in the upper west side that always raves about this restaurant, so the other day I decided to take my girlfriend on a date there. What a gem this place is! Between the decor, the hospitality, and the ambiance I really felt like I was back in Italy. Our waiter was outstandingly courteous and he made my girlfriend and I feel like royalty. The Fettucine Bolognese tasted incredible (like my grandma's)!! I would definitely recommend this place to someone that wants to go eat at a ""real italian"" restaurant, and not spend so much either. I will return soon!! more

A High Price for Bad Service 4/12/2008

We came to La Fenice after a show for a late dinner. Although we had made reservations earlier in the day and the restaurant was fairly empty by that time, the staff seemed confused and hesitant to seat us. After sitting down, we decided on ordering an appetizer. However, when we tried to order our waiter came back five minutes later with a ""special"" menu and he never brought the appetizer at all. We ended up ordering a couple items from the ""special"" menu and one other veal entree. Unfortunately there was another miscommunication in the ordering and we ended up with a veal entree that cost over $20 more than the original order. The manager came to talk to us and never offered to bring the correct dish out. He was extremely rude and obviously did not want to correct the situation. After a small argument he agreed to charge us the price of the entree we ordered, but his lack of courtesy towards his customers was astonishing. Overall the food was decent, but definitely overpriced given the service received. I found this restaurant on City Search and have now become aware of the inaccuracy in ratings. In my opinion, you will get a much clearer and honest picture by bad reviews than the good ones. I wish I would have listened to the bad reviews and not come here. My husband and I were treating his father to a nice dinner and were extremely embarrassed by our choice. Pros: Good wine, not busy Cons: Rude staff, waiters push items on you more

nice brunch 3/28/2008

I try this place for brunch and it was good.\r They have a good choice of eggs dish with few interesting variation of the eggs benedict.\r The service was good, but my only comment would be the hollandaise sauce. It was cold and not as good as I use to find it in other good brunch place. more

Great place to have dinner with friends 3/19/2008

I met a group of about 10 friends at La Fenice and the service was great. We all loved the food and the atmosphere. Everyone talk about the restaurant for weeks later. We are planning to return this week. I can't say enough about the services. We were treated like royalty. Great place located on Broadway, can't wait for the good weather to have dinner outside. Try the arugula and 3 bean salad. Fresh fish and great veal.\r more

AVOID this Place! 3/15/2008

Never again will I eat there and would advise my friends and people to AVOID this place. The waiter lied about portion sizes so we would order more food. Didn't inform us of a change to a much higher price for one of the items on our meal. It was a very bad experience. The food is ok, but the staff was trying to pump the things to order. Not worth it. One of the worst dining experiences I've had in NYC. Cons: Tourist Trap, Terrible service which increases your orders costs more

WORST GUEST RELATIONS EVER! 2/23/2008

\r I thought I'd seen everything until I had dinner at Caffe La Fenice. We were seated and served and just finished our entrees when the hostess came over to our table and said, ""I'm sorry but this table is reserved so you'll have to leave"".\r Have you ever heard such a thing??? We were not dawdling,. We barely were at the restaurant for an hour. We were never told when we were originally seated that we could only stay for an hour. \r When we asked for her name she said she didn't have one! Had she said that there are people waiting, would you mind having dessert or a drink at the bar it might have been more tolerable. The waiter came over after this and apologized profusely. Apparently he must do this often as the hostess seemed very comfortable in her role as bouncer. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: Hostess was Cruella more

Great Experience, Food and Atmosphere 1/29/2008

This is the first of many times I will be coming back to the restaurant. The ambiance, food and atmosphere was exactly what I was looing for in terms of a night on the town. It was a great date spot and I loved.......... the area, so close to lincoln center and right near Barnes and Noble. This restaurant was exactly what I needed to feel like a real "": SATURDAY DATE NIGHT PLACE;' Beautiful, intimate and did I mention incredible food? I will become a regular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: FOOD, SERVICE, ROMANTIC PLACE more

good ny value 2/15/2005

The lasagna, seafood salad, and pasta were all very good. My friend had a seafood platter dish, and we both agreed that it was very fresh. Food and wine prices were quite reasonable in NY considering the location, quality, and ambience. For around 40$ a person, a great value find in NY. Pros: seafood, value, pasta more

Good price, good food, good service 7/15/2004

This restaurant is a rare find in NYC. I live there and find most places are overpriced and a disappointment. La Fenice is neither, they have decent prices for NYC and the food is excellent. The staff is always there to help you and if you are not happy with what you order, quick to give you something else. The menu has salads and moderately priced pasta from $11-19 ,which is so rare in this city. Didn't try dessert but it looked great too. I will go there whenever I""m in the neighborhood. more

Perfect for Lincoln Plaza dinner... 12/21/2003

This is a great pre or post Lincoln Center dinner. The wait staff is very charming (especially if you are female) and very helpful when trying to decide between all the mouth-watering selections. The papardelle is delicious (and freshly made) and the mussels/clams appetizer is definitely worth a try!! Pros: great food, location, charm Cons: $$$ more

Obnoxious Wait Staff 7/17/2003

Three of us were sitting outside, and the unbelievably obnoxious waiter refused to keep the restaurant canopy down over us, even though we and our food were continually getting dripped on with dirty water from an air-conditioner higher up on the building. We had to coax the staff four times to put the canopy over us, and then after they finally did it, 2 minutes later they pulled it up again! We even offered to change our seats but they were unresponsive! They pulled the cloth napkin right out of my friend's lap(!) when she only ordered cappucino instead of a full meal (which she had told them in advance that she was doing) and they said she could only have a paper napkin. We are life-long NYers and we've gotten better treatment by velvet-rope nightclub bouncers than we got at this place! more

This is the place!!!!!!!!!! 10/26/2002

In this place we ( my wife and me) had the best pasta and a wonderfull service you can ever imagine in the whole New York. The food is incredibly tasting and, if you want an advice: Grill calamari, Rigatoni a la vodka and, for dessert, Tartufata. AH!!!, the price excelent, no expensive. more

EVERY dish smelled SOOOO good 8/7/2002

This is probably the best Italian restaurant I've been to. They have probably the second best Vodka sauce I've had (first one being a seafood restaurant in Baltimore) with third place being way way behind second. Even after I was done eating, every single dish smelled SOOO unbelievably good and my mouth would water even though my tummy was full. The tiramisu was very good here too. Very light and although a little heavy in the liqueur--it was still light enough that I could finish the whole thing by myself. I would DEFINITELY go to this cute Upper West Side Italian place again. more

Great food, great drinks, nice ambience 7/23/2002

This place is Italian, not French. After looking for a place to eat before a show at Lincoln Center, we wandered into this intimate little Italian place on Broadway. We started with some drinks: an ice cold Peroni and some wine. The salads were amazing in themselves - mixed greens andtomato wedges in a delicious balsamic vinagrette with slices of Italian bread with warm goat cheese. One of the specials was Chilean sea bass in a white wine and light tomato broth, with clams, mussels and mushrooms and a side of linguine in the same sauce. It was exquisite. The pasta primavera was outstanding as well, lots of fresh veggies. Unfortunately, with our show tickets, we didn't have time to sample any desserts. If you're in the neighborhood, definitely stop by for a great meal. Pros: Atmosphere, Cold beer, Delicious fish more
