Doesn't get much better than this 9/25/2002

We all wish we knew someone who cooked like this. The food tastes like it was prepared at home by someone who REALLY knows how to cook. Some outstanding and reliable pasta dishes, reliable service, sinful desserts, airy atmosphere, great wine selection. Beautifully prepared, not your traditional "drenched in red sauce" Italian food. Carnivores and vegetarians alike can be happy. Pros: ambience, good value, authentic Italian Cons: occasionally crowded, busy parking lot more

Editorial

  • The Scene
A terra-cotta tiled floor and rattan chairs give the small restaurant an open, airy feel. You're treated like an old friend as soon as you walk in, which somehow makes the food taste even better. Dine outdoors on the sidewalk in front of the cafe, if you don't mind the view of Fair Oaks Boulevard.

    The Food
Traditional dishes like gnocchi, scallopine and spaghetti, as well as daily appetizer and entree specials.

    What to Order
Penne puttanesca, a spicy blend of olives, capers, anchovies and rich tomato sauce, is served over pasta pipes. Snag a few breadsticks to nibble on through the week; Vinoteca's are the perfect combination of soft and crunchy, with a buttery flavor.

    What to Skip
Tavola Fredda, a selection of antipasti from a buffet-style table, tends to taste as if it's been left out a while--crusty bread is good, crusty cheese is not.
