It's COLD in Texas...? 7/20/2010

My wife and I only ate here twice, and I was reminded why the second time around. The food here is ALWAYS cold! They have a large variety, but you can't enjoy the food because it's cold, ALWAYS. Waitstaff was terrible, I hate to nit-pick, but our drinks remained empty for thirty minutes after initial filling. Waitstaff walked by us several times with-out ever acknowledging us, they never picked up soiled/empty plates and after that, I DID NOT leave a tip. Infact, I informed management of my problem and he simply said, ""O.K., thank you for coming."" Seriously? We told them that we would not be back. This listing does not deserve even 1 star rating. :0( Pros: Looks very nice inside... Cons: too many to list more

Great Variety and Taste 1/24/2009

Cafe East is definitely our favorite Chinese buffet in Humble. They have a very wide variety of dishes and they are certainly not all chicken. There are many traditional dishes such as General Tso's chicken and Pepper Steak, but they also offer a great selection of ribs, shrimp, crab, crawfish, soups, sushi, salads and desserts. And of course the kids are pleased with the pizza, chicken nuggets and other more kid friendly dishes they offer. I've never had a bad experience eating there or with their take-out. They now charge by the pound for the take out, which I thought was unfair, since you can eat as much as you want dining in for one flat price, but sold by weight when taking out. Doesn't make sense at all, but I still do it anyway and I pile my container FULL!! I've actually heard of buffets that charge you if you leave food on your plate and that is just insane! Also, you can get sick at pretty much any restaurant, due to foods kept at wrong temperatures etc. My last visit there they actually took away ALL the soups and replaced them with fresh because they were not at the correct temp. Overall Cafe East is my favorite Chinese Buffet!!\r Pros: Service and delicious food Cons: um...nothing more

thought it ws the best but then 3/29/2008

me and my family have been there several times and always enjoyed ourselves until one day we went there and after eating not that much started feeling sick to my stomach and walking out of there felling more sick then on the way home straining telling my husband to hurry i feel like i got to throw it up and when i got home i did and it was all the food i had just ate. then i was better and before eating over there i was not feeling like that at all aparently some of the food i ate was not sanitary and my family all ate something different than me no one ate what i ate. and i called to speak to the manager to tell me i need to go see the doctor that they didnt get any bad reports that day. and that he could not give me my money back and i just wasted my money to come home and throw it up. this is not how things should work and he gave me another number to call saying i need to see a doctor to confirm it ws the food i dont know anyone who treats customers like this i will not eat over there again.i think i deserve my money back this is crazy Pros: looks good Cons: makes you sick more

Good food, but don't try to take home.... 11/2/2007

All my family living locally, goes to this restaurant for a good Chinese buffet. While it is probably the best in Humble to eat at, it is most definitely not the best in Houston. The food is really good, for a buffet, and kept fresh and consistent. The wait staff is very attentive and quick to serve. The space provides an open seating arrangement and plenty of choices where you would prefer to sit. My main complaint is the $9.00 take out. Not only is the price raised to $9.00 for a take-out that equals only one serving, but we were charged 1st before getting the food-to-go and the provided container was very small. To top it off, when we asked for a small to-go bowl for the soup or dessert - we were told that it would be $3.00 extra for each additional container. So, if I wanted a single plate serving worth of food, along with a dessert and soup (that I would get with my buffet meal, for no additional charge eating in), the cost of my meal would be at least $15.00 (before taxes). What made it even more of a problem was when I asked the manager why it was like that, he replied that it was just policy and that his bosses don't explain to him why and that it's not his place to ask why. That ""that is just the policy. Needless to say, we asked for a refund on our take-out order and promptly received it back. So if you are going to this buffet and don't want to spend whole lot, don't take-out. \r \r Pros: Food, Variety, Space, Service Cons: Take-home Price and Portions, Management/Ownership Attitude more

An excellent buffet for kids and adults alike... 4/27/2007

My husband and I quite enjoy our dining experiences at Cafe East. The atmosphere is pleasant and so is the waitstaff. One of the things that brings us back on a regular basis is the large variety offered on the buffet. Not only do they have several excellent chicken and vegetable dishes, they have shrimp and beef with vegetables too as well as pork ribs, boiled and breaded shrimp, crawfish, fish filets, broiled salmon, oysters...that just barely begins to describe the plentiful buffet, I haven't even mentioned the salad, sushi, soup and dessert bars. I would highly recommend Cafe East to anyone with kids, a large party or a date for two. Pros: The buffet is constantly being restocked and the waitstaff never makes you feel like you have to hurry off. Cons: Some times the cheesecake and cream puffs are still frozen on the dessert bar more
