Cable Car Cinema is a local independent movie theater showing first-run independent films. The chairs are actually sofas, where you can sit comfortably and eat while you watch the movie. They show independent films that don’t come to the megaplex in the mall, and provide an alternative viewing environment to boot! more

Great Night Out! 8/19/2005

Its like watching a movie in your apartment only on the big screen! the theater actually has love seats in it! You have to get there super early to actually get one to yourselves but the movies are cheap. The only drawback is they play mostly independent films and sometimes you get a real dud. more

Independent Film Theater 8/17/2005

Playing host to a myriad of independent and foreign films, Cable Car Cinema is one of the most comfortable place where you go see a movie outside of your home. The cinema only has one screen, surrounded by couches and many comfortable chairs for your viewing pleasures. The atmosphere is very eclectic with an artistic flair weave into its décor and design. more

best cinema ever 8/17/2005

the cable car cinema is a unique experience. you get to watch an artsy or older film on actual couches in a rather small and cozy theater. it sort of feel as though you're in your own living room, which is cool. there's usually a choice of two films playing. i would suggest bringing your own snacks because the popcorn and food they serve always looks a little old... more

independent theatre 8/12/2005

The Cable Car is a nice alternative theatre with a quaint setting. There are couches on one half and typical theatre seating on the other. It fits in great with the artsiness and local character of downtown Providence. Cable Car typically shows foreign and independent films. Occasionally, there are free showings, events, and guests such as producers and directors. Right outside the Cable Car is also a small cafe with seating outside. more
