I know this restaurant for 20 years, and after all this time they still treating customers the ""same old way "" they did 20 years ago! The food is good, but the service still ...

Cabana Carioca still worth a look 5/28/2009

This expanded restaurant, something of a landmark in Little Brazil, may be a victim of its own success. I haven't found the waiters rude, as have some reviewers on this site, but warm and tingly feelings from the staff are not on the menu here. They seem cold and impersonal. That said, I still can't walk past this place without stopping a couple of times a year. They continue to get some things right, mainly the food. The Feijoada Completa, which at $20 a pop can feed a hungry couple for two days, is still one of the best examples of the Brazilian national dish found in the city. It's a steaming vat of black bean stew, slow-cooked with pork, beef and sausage. The Churrasco Gaucho, a T-bone, and other steaks are good-sized and flavorful. The Bacalhau a 'Gomes de Sa,' which is codfish, potatos and eggs, is salty but tasteful. The Paella ... I'm not a fan, not here. Don't drive (it's Times Square, where would you park?), buy healthy pitchers of sangria or caipirinha (lime, sugar and a distilled sugar cane alcohol known as Cacha?a) and call it a night. And bring some friends to chat up. The waiters are not big on small talk. - Miki Matos Vega more

T e r r i b l e customer service!!! 8/5/2008

I know this restaurant for 20 years, and after all this time they still treating customers the ""same old way "" they did 20 years ago! The food is good, but the service still really terrible! Pros: food/cost Cons: Customer service more

Go if you dont want to spend much money and the food is not so great ! 10/21/2007

Cabana Carioca it's not a Brazilian place. The f ood is Portugues food mix with some Brazilian. The waiter's are Portugues and not Brazilian. If you dont know the difference,Brazilian people are very nice and the food amazing! Pros: The food is ok! Cons: the service it's not so great! more

are they for real? 3/1/2006

In Brasil, with that kind of service they would be out of the market in no time. Manager is rude, waiters are acting like they are doing you a favor? Do they actually expect to get a tip for the service they provide? Bad! really, really bad! more

Greeat deal! 10/19/2005

They have got a Saturday buffet from 11 to 4. Don't know about other days. $10!! The food was very good. Nice mix of pasta, fish, meat, etc. Excellant desserts! Very convenient to Times Square. more

Not for romance but good, cheap eats 9/26/2005

Not big on ambience, decor, or service but if you go upstairs to the 2nd level eating area and order off of the bar menu, you can enjoy a shell steak, rice and beans, and potatoes for 10$. Excellent for the Times Square area and much better than what surrounding restuarants have to offer. more

you get what you pay for... 3/7/2003

....it's one of the cheapest eats in the city and the food is not bad if you sit at the bar only - they have a decent chicken and/or beef tender tips but they cook with a lot of garlic so beware. For about six bucks and change you get the meal with fried potatoes black beans and rice and an all you can eat salad bar. So if you're broke this is the place to be. the bar is small and fills up fast. Go by yourself and chow. more

Keep walking past it. 1/19/2003

For cheaper and better food, ""Rice 'n Beans"" is your alternative. For classy and yes, better food, either Plataforma or Plantation will knock your socks off. The decor is dingy and old, and the food quality wasn't bad but it didn't impress, either. Nothing like getting tap water with old ice cubs to set the mood, I guess. Pros: brazilian food, interesting view Cons: food isn't very good, decor is lacking, service desultory more
