Lots of Room to Run & Play 4/6/2008

City dwellers looking for a relaxing picnic destination or just a place to throw the frisbee can find it at Byrd Park. Lots of open space, green grass and man-made ponds. Don't bring any bread crumbs for the geese - you're not supposed to feed them. The annual 4th of July fireworks show at the Carillon is great. You can bring a blanket and relax on the lawn while the symphony plays before the show begins. You'll feel like you're right underneath the exploding fireworks - it's quite a rush. The event is free, but be prepared to fight the crowds for a good spot. One more note: the park is close to a couple of shady neighborhoods, so don't visit at night. more
