Come See Jane 6/10/2006

The Burpee museum in Rockford has recently unveiled the kind of thing you would normally expect to see only in a place like Chicago or New York. Namely, they have a dinosaur skeleton. Jane is a juvenile Tyranasaurus Rex, to be exact. Apparently she was about 11 years old when she died. The Burpee museum is a great place to go, and caters very much towards families and kids. A lot of people try to criticize Rockford. I had someone write to me and try to explain that they used to live in Evanston Illinois, so obviously Rockford was much too boring for them. My response to that is, you aren't trying hard enough. Personally, I never found Evanston to be all that great, but have always found plenty to do and love in Rockford. Rockford may be a small to medium-sized city compared to neighboring Chicago, but it has a lot to offer. I would start with this museum right here. Plenty to see and do and keep you and the family occupied for most of the day. It's classy, it's something you would find in a world-class city and it's great entertainment for a great price. Check it out! more

Small town museum with big city class. 8/20/2005

I loved the Burpee Museum! It was filled with all kinds of information about our city and state's natural history. I learned so much that I never knew, just from walking through on my own! The stations are very creatively done and are extremely professional looking. It was better than I expected for our small town, and best of all, there is a skeleton of a REAL T-Rex! Great! I only wished it were a little bigger... it only took me a short time to go through, and I really enjoyed it so much, I didn't want it to end! more

It's All About Jane 8/17/2005

Welcoming Rockford's newest (and oldest) resident, Burpee Museum recently added Jane, the dinosaur, to its collection of animals, fossils, minerals, and more. This is the perfect place to while away a long winter afternoon, and kids will love the T-Rex and Mammoth skeletons. Look for special programs to add additional value to your visit. The Burpee Museum recently won a national museum award for its Jane exhibit; let's hope this is the beginning of some real improvement in Rockford's museum exhibitions. more

Jane the dinosaur finally arrives. 8/13/2005

It took them four years to get the exhibit prepared but they finally got it done. It is a full restored skeleton that's somewhere around twenty feet tall. they really put alot of effort into this exhibit. This museum is in the middle of Rockford and seems a bit out of place amidst the industrial district. However, it is only $5 for adults and $4 for kids. It's a nice trip to the museum with out hopping a train to Chicago. more
