I am still in a semi-state of shock! 3/5/2011

I've been going to Helen for over a year on a recommendation from a friend. She gave nice cuts and I felt relieved to have found a skilled and consistent stylist. I trusted her. Now I'm sorry I did. I had healthy hair with long layers and bangs. My hair started at the middle of my back. I asked for 21/2 inches and to soften around my bangs and a bang trim. I don't know how it's Possible that Helen heard mullet but that is the closest description I can come up with to describe the horror that it my hair style right now. She styled it with so much product it looked and felt like I was leaving bumble and bumble wearing a helmet. I called the salon twice after examining my hair at home and never got a call back. I hope to speak to someone today about getting some help to repair some of the damage. It is close to 8 inches shorter instead of 2.5 and it is unevenly cut. I have more bangs than I started with, a majority of my crown is bangs now and it doesn't look good. My hair on one side of my head is shorter than the other, only 3 inches long in fact! The rest of my hair was thinned out with her razor to a point where it looks scraggly and thin. I feel older and this is the worst hair cut I've ever had. Just because it's a top hair salon and you are paying top prices does not mean that you will get a great hair cut or that they can't really mess you up! more

expensive but worth every penny 7/17/2007

I don't come here often, because it is just too expensive to come here all the time, but once in awhile I like to treat myself to a cut from here and I absolutely love it!! The staff definitely knows what they are doing, usually I don't feel too great after a haircut, nervous about how it looks and everything, but when I walk out of Bumble & Bumble, I feel so beautiful and great! Its def worth the money, at least once! more

Hip with consultation! 10/6/2005

Bumble and Bumble is a very cool place to get your haircut. One of the things that is great about their service is that they are concerned with your kind of hair and will match you up with someone who can handle that particular kind of hair. Importantly, it's a great idea to go there, shell out the bucks for a haircut, and get a consultation for how they thing your hair should best be cut. Then you can tell other stylists (that are less expensive) about this style in the future. more

A great hair experience 8/28/2005

A friend recommended the Bumble & Bumble salon on 14th Street, and what a great experience. The salon is modern and clean, and the views onto the river are spectacular while your hair is cut. The hairdressers, while under a certain crunch to get the job done efficiently, never make you feel rushed and are attentive to your needs. For comfort, the salon offers a full range of snacks and beverages, and one can feel comfortable just hanging out before a cut or during a color. more

Expensive but good 8/19/2005

A friend with very curly hair recommended Bumble & Bumble to help me deal with my own curls. They did better than Ouidad, surprisingly. Specifically stylist Laura Jean was an excellent curly hair fixer! She charges a whopping $104 per cut (!!!), but she is the only stylist who has ever stopped my hair from frizzing into a mess as soon as it rains. Other stylists there also have the gift, but I have not tried them. They have a clean, open atmosphere and a comfy waiting area with refreshments. B&B also has a line of hair care products that are effective. B&B was more hip and trendy in the 80's, but it's still great. Convenient midtown location. Be sure to schedule an appointment in advance, and to describe your particular hair challenge - they will try to match you with a stylist who specializes in your particular type of hair. more

Decent salon with major hip factor - go for the free cuts! 8/6/2005

Bumble and Bumble has a solid reputation as a good hair salon. Their stylists are innovative and tend to cut hip styles (edgy looks with layers and razors). The best kept secret is to sign up for their model nights and get free haircuts. There is a limit to how many times you can get your hair cut but a free cut is virtually unheard of in NY. The only drawbacks are the wait times (usually it takes two to three months to get called in for a free cut) and the experience of the stylists (they're fresh off the hair truck). The stylist/trainee who cut my hair was nervous and I was her first cut ever! My cut was way too short for my liking (she had to try out all the techniques she was taught which is why they like to recruit those with shoulder length or longer hair) but it was free. And after a month, it really did grow out nicely. But I had to suffer until then with bad hair. So if you can wait it out, it's a nice freebie in an expensive city. more

Great but expensive hair salon 7/31/2005

I went to Bumble and Bumble for a haircut and highlighting once in my life, when I was in a wedding party, and it was the best treatment my hair ever got. The only reason I went once is because I can't afford to go all the time. They are very expensive (to me anyway because I think $20 is a lot for a haircut LOL) , but it is so worth it! If you really want to treat yourself to something, go here. The stylists are very careful and will give you exactly the look you want. If you don't know what you want, they will give you ideas. You will come out looking beautiful, as I did. more

Try a Trendy New Hair look 7/12/2005

Bumble and Bumble will be sure to give you a current and trendy new haircut that is sure to suit your face and lifestyle. All the stylists are really friendly and helpful, so don't hesitate to ask them about their styling techniques so you can try and replicate this at home. Before leaving, check out their wide range of styling products as well, especially the great shampoos for all hair types. It's a good idea to change every now and then, and they have great product! more
