Editorial review from Citysearch 2/16/2014

I will never go anywhere else! Craig and Lesley are the most compassionate people. They have taken care of so many of my dogs and cats and when it came time to put my sweet Bailey to sleep Craig let me take my time to say goodbye before the injection and let me cry as long as I needed to before I took her home. He never rushed me even though the waiting room was full. They both are the best vets and I will be forever grateful for their knowledge and care. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/14/2012

I am very grateful for the care my dog received at this clinic. I appreciated how Dr. Degan took time to explain to me about my dog's condition. I could tell Dr. Degan is very experienced and knowledgeable, and felt comfortable leaving my dog's care in her hands. more

Dog's best friend! 1/28/2012

Dr. Degen and Dr. Elbel, you're the greatest! You have helped the rescue community receive affordable care for years. You came to our rescue with our personal pet after a reaction from recent surgery. You were still working and available to us after 7 p.m. We could have spent a lot of money at the after-hours emergency vet, but you were there to help us and our elderly dog. Thank you for all you do. more

Thank you Dr. Elbel and staff 12/3/2010

Lord I thank you for honest, hard working people who actually have a love and passion for what they do. I will recommend Bulverde Bexar Veterinary Clinic to everyone I know and come in contact with. It's refreshing to know that these folks aren't sold out to greed. They treat each patient and owner with the care you would a dear loved one! more

Finally! A vet that doesn't take my entire paycheck! 11/24/2010

I am still in the process of rescuing a Husky that I found in the neighborhood I work in. I first took him to a vet close by. I had him boarded there for a couple of days and they kept trying to get me to pay for them to run tests on him. Each test was around $40 and I had already spent close to $200. A woman at Humane Animal Friends organization recommended I get him vaccinated and tested at this clinic. An annoying drive up 281 was very much worth it. I was astounded by the prices. Everything is so cheap. I don't care if it's more 'homey' than most vets. The medicine is the same and the animals are treated with care and respect. The vet everyone is talking about does look tired, but I imagine he has good reason to. He's got a lot of patients and he's doing things virtually for free. He doesn't have time to put on a 'everything's perfect' facade. He will tell you what you need to know and is very direct. It's better than a whole bunch of suggestions and very little certainty as I've experienced elsewhere. more

Best Vets in ANY city! 6/21/2010

Dr. Elbel cares about animals. He wants to be sure they have good quality of life and radiant health. If you need a fancy schmancy office and cadillac treatment, go pay the prices elsewhere. If you want the truth about your pet and its health, go to Dr. Elbel. Pros: Care about our animals Cons: Not very fancy more

Affordable and conscientious 6/15/2009

We have been a customer of Dr Elbel's for 20+ years. He has cared for over 10+ of our animals over those years. Dr.Elbel is kind & cares about the animal ;their quality of life- and not yours. Once you understand that, you understand him. He does not want the pet to go thru pain, unnecessary surgeries, just cause a human wants them to live a little longer. The facility is basic, You get what you pay for. This vet is good for basic care (shots) and basic problems (nuder, cuts) your pets may have. However, if your pet needs major surgery (reconstructed pelvis) ; has cancer and you want chemo treatments for it , then take your pet to a ""city"" vet. Craig is our ""country"" vet -deals w/ large animals too (which requires house calls) but he & the office are very 'basic'-no frills here. We love him just the way he is ! Terrific !!!!!! Pros: Inexpensive; Cares about the Pet's Quality of Life Cons: Basic technology ; not state of the art facility. more

Not happy with the care my kittens received 3/6/2009

I went to this vet after picking up two kittens on the side of the road that had what is probably an upper respitory infection. My regular vet (Ben Kyzar) was more expensive because I would have had to pay for two office visits because it was two kittens. I read the reviews and called to see how much the office visit would be. After they told me I would only be charged for one visit ($40) I decided to go. Pros: cheap Cons: dirty, vet looked tired, admitted he was, no real care given more

No Bells and Whistles, Just honest Affordable Pet care 10/10/2007

I called Bulverde Bexar Veterinary Clinic from a search I did on Google and found the review here on Citysearch. I was a mess before I called and spoke with Bobbie, the nice lady that manages the front desk. She advised me that the office does not do unnecessary tests and that the clinic is located in a blue house. Right there I knew it was the place for me and my babies. The minute I walked in and saw all the cool drawings kids had made it confirmed it. The other people in the waiting room were really nice too. It's not the place for uppity people. Let them pay more at other places. The Vet was the kindest I have ever met. He was very informative and explained what would help fix my kitty up. It was a relief to not have to take a loan out to have her seen since I lost my job recently. Thank you so much for your loving staff and I will definitely return and refer people I know who will appreciate y'all like I have. Pros: Affordable, Knowledgeable, Caring more

Top Notch Vets 8/9/2007

I have to disagree with the other review. My animals (5 total) have been cared for by Dr.'s Elbel and Deagan for 10 years as have my mother?s animals that I grew up with as a young girl and I have only had positive experiences with them. They not only care for companion animals they also care for farm animals in the surrounding community. If you are looking for a state of the art vet clinic with all the bells and whistles, gourmet food and treats, and fashion wear for your pets this is NOT the vet for you. If you are looking for vets who diligently care for all animals and are not in it to get rich and make you poor by running a bunch of unnecessary tests and procedures this IS your kind of vet. I have NEVER over paid for anything and feel very blessed that they are so reasonable. Visits that may cost $500 elsewhere cost next to nothing, medication is the same. When I found and adopted three 2 week old kittens SEVERAL years ago who had horrible ringworm Dr. Deagan dipped and cared for all of them for several weeks and only charged me for 1 kitten at a very low cost. They not only care for animals they also care for you and your financial situation. Bulverde Bexar Veterinary Clinic is TOP NOTCH in their care for animals. They may not be high class or high end, but they are definitely a stellar group of people! Pros: Nice caring staff, VERY reasonable more

Terrible service, support and overall respect... 8/3/2007

I have been nothing but disappointed in this vet clinic. I took my puppy there (upon referral from my parents) from when I first got him @ 6 weeks old until now he is 9 months old. EVERY time I took him there, the vet treated me, my dog and my girlfriend with total disrespect and disregard. He never offered us one ounce of assistance or ideas or any input with our dog. Any time we asked a question, we received very condescending and one word answers of either ""yes"" or ""no."" Anytime we took our dog there for a check-up or whatever the situation was, we always felt as though we were inconveniencing this BUSINESS. The male vet never showed any affection to our dog even though he saw him from virtually day 1. He never gave us advice nor did he seem to care about our business in general. I called to try and discuss our issues and all I was told was to come in, get our dogs papers printed out and we could handle getting a new vet on our own. No questions as to WHY we were wanting to leave them or what was wrong from our side. Pros: Cheap. Cons: Everything else. Dirty. Unsupportive. Rude. Lazy. and on and on and on. Stay away. more
