I love Bulldog News. 3/10/2006

I love walking down to Bulldog news on my breaks from work. Sitting in the café with a cup of coffee and reading a magazine is heaven during a hard day. You can pretty much find any magazine you want here. Its also nice because you can watch the news on the flat screens. During the summer they have awesome fresh squeezed lemonade and it goes great with a nice read. more

Bulldog News. Good coffee. Good news. 3/7/2006

Bulldog News is my favorite safe haven when on the run from 'Save the Children' solicitors. The space is a claustrophobic's dream and a pure joy on nice days. Their coffee is the whole fair trade, organic claptrap...more importantly it's delicious. As is their fresh squeezed lemonade and the majority of their snacks. They've got it all - internet access, free publications, wide selection of newspapers, and an international collection of magazines. The staff is pretty merciful when it comes to loitering and skimming anything/everything in their unparalleled inventory. more

A business with an admirable social conscience 3/1/2006

I was introduced to Bulldog News via UW campus activism in support of Fair Trade certified coffee. Bulldog often provided us with free coffee to serve on campus to promote Fair Trade certification and to encourage students to seek out fair trade coffee. We really appreciated their help in our endeavors, and they continue to reach out to the community through their tips-for-volunteering program and I'm sure in many other ways as well. At one point they hosted an evening discussion on politics; I'm not sure if that is still a regular thing. Bulldog News' coffee helped me develop a liking for coffee in the first place. They serve Equal Exchange coffee and espresso at their stand, as well as Yerba Mate, hot chocolate, and sometimes lemonade or other seasonal drinks. If you have your own mug you can get a discount on your drink - with my own Bulldog News mug I get 12 oz of drip coffee for $1. Awesome. Oh, and their selection of publications is amazing. I can spend and have spent hours in there browsing. more

A Classic Newstand 10/4/2005

Located in the university district, Bulldog news carries it all! In fact I have not ever seen such a thorough newsstand. They have litterally a TON of magazines and newspapers. I like to go read the brittish magazines while I drink my coffee, yes added bonus is they have a coffee stand. Their coffee is pretty amzaing too! more

News, faux news, lit crit diatribes, etc 9/25/2005

Bulldog News has a wide ranging selection of periodicals and newspapers from around the world. There is a shelf dedicated to foreign periodicals and another for international newspapers. Mainly though, the focus here is on literature journals and left wing political magazines. They do have sections for just about everything else though, the cooking and travel section here is quite large. If you are in the University District stop by and browse. more

A great place for hard to find newspapers and magazines 9/20/2005

This is one of the best places in Seattle to find newspapers and magazines for every taste. Bulldog carries everything from local journals to mainstream magazines of every kind to newspapers from around the world. Bulldog also offers internet access by the minute and their rates are pretty good. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable and can usually help you find whatever you are looking for - no matter how unusual. While you are there you can pick up a pretty good cup of coffee as well. more

Bulldog News 8/21/2005

Bulldog News is a great place to find that magazine or newspaper that you can't find anywhere else - they have a large selection of independent magazines (Bust, Bitch, Found, etc) and also a fair selection of foreign magazines. They carry the original London TimeOut (though they don't have it as early as it's published in the UK) as well as the New York version, and you can subscribe to the NYT via Bulldog. more

fantastic newsstand!! 8/19/2005

I am a huge magazine junkie, and this place is like the home planet that I never knew existed. Every time I go there, I find a new magazine that I didn't know about before. It's a great place to find specialty publications you can't find in other book stores or newsstands. more

Bulldog News 8/18/2005

Bulldog's a great place to come and just hang out. People-watching on the Ave. while sipping a latte and skimming a new magazine or newspaper is a fabulous way to pass the time. As the previous review indicated, Bulldog does have an impressive selection of international magazines and newspapers, and they do make good coffee. It makes sense that they'd be located near the U.W. I've often found fascinating new magazines by browsing the displays. I always leave feeling more literate and better informed. more

Newsstand and coffee shop with a conscience 8/17/2005

Bulldog News, located on the Ave in the U-Disrict is a good place to buy a paper and espresso. Not just in the sense that they have a good selection of international papers (which they do), or that they make a high quality espresso (which they also do), or even that it's a nice place to sit for a while, watching news on the big-screen television and reading (it is), but also in the sense that your money is supporting a good cause. Bulldog serves organic shade-grown fair trade coffee, better for the coffee growers and the environment. They donate coffee to the Seattle Youth Garden Works, a program for homeless and underserved teenagers who run a market garden and sell produce and coffee at Farmers' Markets in Seattle. And the employees donate time to volunteer; your tip money goes to compensating that time. You can feel good about spending money here. more
