Wow! I can't believe how terrible the Friday night scene at Alpha Bar really is. My room mate said he heard of this really cool bar in the Richmond so we looked it up here on City Search and it had rave reviews. So we show up kinda early around 9:45 thinking things will pick up and the place would be ""jumping"". Sadly, no jumping occurred and we left around 11:30 because there were about 20 people in the entire bar. The service was excellent and the couches are comfy, but having a lack of clientele really reduces the appeal of this bar. Another thing that really intrigued me about this establishment was the overwhelming population of Asian folk. Now I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but at the same time a bunch of spikey haired douches and their quasi girlfriends do not make for a good time. Another indiscretion I have is the the bouncer couldn't stop talking to seemingly underage girls long enough to see me walk outside with my friend. When I tried to returned he bumblingly asked to see my ID and I had only been outside for 2 minutes. I didn't know you could fail as a doorman, but the Alpha Bar has proven otherwisse. In conclusion, the Alpha Bar is lame, the dj is sub-par and made my ears hurt, the bathroom is tagged all ghetto-tastically and I wouldn't come back if they paid me. Word to ya mutha'... Based on the reviews we tried Alpha for the first time last night, and for friday it was empty, and stayed empty. The drinks were a bit on the weak side and the patrons were nice but the bartenders had some attitude. Overall an ok place if you bring your own group, but if you're looking to meet anyone or have a conversation with anyone that works there, Be prepared to be disappointed. Needless to say, Iwith all the great places you could go, do NOT come here. more

not the same without nicole. i don't know what the circumstances are in her disappearance, but she's a diamond in the rough that you should do whatever it takes to hold onto because you're not going to find many like her. get her back. more

lpha, the lush oasis in this desert of bars. What draws me here again and again is the enthusiasm of the employees and the owners. All alike are happy to see you, no matter who you are. With its interior decoration it is hard not to feel at home. The music they play is infectious as is the charisma of the workers. You will thirst for talking to them again and again (especially Nicole & Azure). Even on their busiest nights, you will not wait more than 2-3 minutes for someone to take your drink order. They also have cocktail waitresses that go around the place when it is extremely busy. The dance floor is usually packed on the weekends with people enjoying themselves, the company they are with, and the music that is playing. Be warned: you will be mesmerized like a sailor who listens to the sirens song. Pros: Active, Good crowd, Good workers Cons: Parking, sometimes more

I realize now why this is such a cool place. Alpha is set up like a giant living room. These guys built a living room in their bar. The couches, coffee tables, warm colors, etc.(All done very well BTW). Everyone is relaxing and partying in there friend's living room. It's like a cool house party on the weekends and a safe place to just relax on the weekdays. I'm home. Pros: Warm, good food, Good drinks Cons: Addictive, none, none more

I was just walking by and decided to come in on a Sunday night and this place was packed! Cool happy people just kicking it. Some were dancing, some just socializing. Everyone was all from a diverse background just kicking it together in this place and it seemed like they all belonged. Strange for this city. But, I guess that is what SF should be. Music Great, drinks good and not over priced, bartenders HOT, the whole place is a true lounge. I was told that the weekends where just like that but much more packed. I will come back alot! Ok, I can not help but to stop by this place every night. There are always cool people here. And I am in love with all the bartenders. Let me give you a break down of them. 1. Azure = Azure is the tall bikini surfer blond girl with a great personality! 2. Nicole is the hot Brown eye girl that van morrison sings about and makes me want to move to the south of France with and spend the rest of my days eating cheese. 3. Nikki: The girl next door! Too cute for words. 4. Steph is the Spunky punk rock chick with the best sense of humor and tattoos. I know all this but can't even remember one of the guy bartenders names. This place is too cool to even begin. They have free internet and wi-fi in every couch booth area. (Which incidently this is where I am doing this review from). My boyfriend is playing Play station, on a big screen TV, with his friends over in this other lounge / couch area. My cocktail is hella strong and I am feeling nice. I'm now thinking about dancing with my friends on the dance floor because I love this song... Ok, I'm tieing one on now... i love this place... Bye Bye.... Oh, BTW... this spot is the chill. im from la and this spot rocks. All nite...good service, fast drinks, great food, sweet entertainment, internet access, couches, dance floor....etc. (the works) Come and check it out. the cocktail waitress is hot. Come checkout the hottest Bar/Club on Geary Street. The Alpha Bar has a wide selection of drinks, from wells to Grey Goose! The staff here is friendly, and the decor is trendy. Lots of red,orange,with blackleather sofas. Be sure to check out the FREE Internet avaliable to all as you sip endless cocktails. Cute girls come by to offer you drinks...as you surf the web. The food is well priced, they got yummy appetizers here from mini burritos to tofu wraps. You can eat while you sit back in the upper lounge and watch your FAvorite movie on the BIg Screen. I have been here a few times and think that this area/neighborhood really needs a place like this. It attracts all kinds of people...college kids, hipsters, lovely Asian girls and guys, old school neighborhood regulars,..etc. Everyone seems to fit in perfectly. The decor is elegant yet still low key, always lots of dancing on the weekends. The service is great...really friendly, efficient bartenders...that are also really really cute. Good eye candy all around. I would definitely suggest this place, even on the weekdays when it's mellow and you can have a cocktail and eat some grub at the bar and chat with the bartender. Very cool new place. Nice and comfortable furniture, very plush and sexy. The Richmond district needs a place like this. Alpha is like a club/bar/restaurant fused together with just the right touches that makes me drink and party there all night... Plus the bartenders are hella hot. that always helps. Me and my girl friends danced all night there on thures and we went back again sat. Dj's were cool and the door guy was very nice. We bummed smokes from him all night. Everyone should go there. Very cool place. more

I went with a friend due to a write up recommendation that she read in an article. At first the bar seemed promising. We arrived early for a Saturday night, 9:00pm. We had the place to ourselves but knew a DJ was coming soon. When the DJ started, the scene got better. The music selection became more creative and intriguing so we decided to get another drink. Then suddenly the music format changed. My friend and I each asked the DJ separately when the format would change again and we were each told that it changes every hour. After an hour I aksed again and the ""girlfriend of the DJ"" said that the current format would not change again because ""it keeps the lights on"".
