If you find a better steakhouse tell me. 3/31/2006

This is seriously the best steakhouse I have ever been to, they have better steaks than you could get in San Francisco or NYC and is definitely worth the trip from anywhere. The ambience is great, the service is the best that I have had eating anywhere (college student and we usually get crap) and i definitely awarded them for it. Bottom line, not only is this the best steakhouse around it is also the best deal around. Pros: Amazing Steaks, Great Service, Good Prices Cons: Not closer to me, Not closer to me, Not closer to me more

The best Steakhouse BAR NONE! I have tried just about everything on the menu, and I haven't been dissapointed yet, although I highly recommend their Tri Tip dinner. The portions are huge and savory. Also one to try is their award winning mushroom soup. The soup is very rich, made with real cream and mushrooms. This can be a great meal by itself or as an accompanyment to their entres. Note that this soup is usually served on Saturdays, so plan accordingly. I can't say enough about thier staff. I held my wedding rehearsal dinner here on a Thursday and even though the Mushroom soup is reserved for Saturdays, they went ahead with my special request and served our guests this delicious treat. Everyone raved! Great place for families as well as couples, and business appointements. Kudos Buckhorn!! Pros: Portions, ambiance, staff Cons: crowded weekends more

The best steak....ever! 9/30/2004

I absolutely LOVE the Buckhorn. The Taylor Cut steak is a must...it's a steak wrapped in apple wood smoked bacon...so good I wish I was eating there now. The garlic mashed potatoes are also a must as well as the green beans. The drinks in the bar are also great as well as the service. Also, if you are ever in Davis on Wednesday nights, you must go to the farmers market to get a Big Buck sandwich with grilled onions at the Buckhorn stand. I honestly can't say enough about the Buckhorn. It's fantastic! more

Simply the best 9/3/2004

The Buckhorn is relly the best steakhouse I have ever been to and I travel a lot. The Cajun Rib-eye is a must have along with the Baseball Sirloin. Make sure you go on a Saturday night for the cream of Mushroom soup, too. And ask for Celeste as your waitress... she has great energy and gives the best service! Pros: the bar, the decor, THE FOOD more

The Buckhorn Rocks 5/23/2004

I live in Winters now, but used to live in San Diego. The Char Roasted Tri Tip Sirloin is so addictive that I would end up driving 600 miles with friends to eat at the Buckhorn on a long weekend! Fantastic steaks, prime rib, seafood. The staff is great, it shows that they LOVE working there. Make reservations!!!! Pros: Good portions, Smiling Staff, Excellent beef Cons: , Brick building(loud) more

A Diamond in the Rough 2/15/2004

This is probably the best Steakhouse in Northern California. The steaks are generally cooked spot on, the flavor is very rich. For the weaker at heart request a table in the DeVilbiss room. It is in the back past the bar, but it has a Victorian motif and is completely lacking in stuffed animal heads. The cost overall is more in line with the traditional chain steakhouses rather than the more upscale ala carte ones, but the quality of food is excellent. Reservations are a must on weekend nights and holidays. Pros: Good Food, Reasonable Prices Cons: , Crowded more

spicy and rare 2/4/2003

The Buckhorn is worth the 30 to 40 minute drive from Sacramento. It's especially fun at Christmas when all the stuffed animal heads in the bar wear Santa caps, from the smallest quail to the moose. Pros: great prime rib, nice building, good bar Cons: can be crowded, can be noisy more

Lamb-alicious 1/21/2003

By far the best rack of lamb you will find anywhere. To get things started try the fire-roasted artichoke while sipping on an ice cold Newcastle. I have never had a bad meal at the ""Buckhorn."" more

The Buck Stops There! 1/13/2003

Hey, if you haven't been there, it's a must place to go! Get there early as well, or you will wait a little. We drive from San Jose just to go and have a filet - Yummy!!!! Pros: littel town atmospher, Extremely friendly, free b-day dessert Cons: a little pricey, Move table too fast!, Too little time given more

the beef is so fresh you can hear it moo 12/19/2002

I love this place. I lived in Winters for a while some 20 years back and its always been my favorite. We go there for all our special occasions. Try to go on a friday when they serve clam chowder. The best clam chowder in the world. more

Homesick for Northern California 10/21/2002

This was our favorite restaurant when we lived in Northern California. It was located in an historic town in an old saloon. Fun! It has great food and a wonderful wine list. Great bar, too! Pros: Great food, great service, wine list Cons: Long wait on weekends more

Fabulous!!! 10/4/2002

We found Buckhorn Steak & Roadhouse on citysearch this summer. It it had not be for a previous review we would not have found Buckhorn in Roeville. It is a ways from our place but well worth the trip. I would suggest making reservations but if you go on the spur of the moment, the wait is usually not very long. Great food, great drinks, great service. We will continue to enjoy Buckhorn Steak & Roadhouse for years to come. Pros: Great steaks, fabulous drinks, great service more

  • The Scene
One couldn't begin to talk about the Buckhorn without mentioning the animal heads. They form a glassy-eyed ring around the tables. But the Buckhorn isn't just a giant trophy...
