Run Forrest Run 6/15/2006

I think that should be the title of other peoples reviews of this place. They seem to really not like it here. I found it to be a bit better than them. Any place that glorifies one of the best films ever made gets an extra star from me. 2 stars for the restaurant and one star for naming after the fictitous business featured in the classic film. Remember Bubba in the film; fried shrimp. boiled shrimp, broiled shrimp, bbq shrimp... Well you get the idea. If you think the food is overpriced and it's a tourist trap, just go in for a drink to check it out. It's a fun atmosphere. more

Good Food, but the Theme Has Worn Out 6/12/2006

Because this restaurant is one of the first you see when you're entering Navy Pier, it tends to get very crowded, and you can experience long wait times. Understandable. They have some outdoor seating in the nicer weather, which I enjoy, but unlike other Pier restaurants, the view is not of Lake Michigan. Seafood here is good, especially the coconut shrimp, but prices are not cheap, and worst of all, you have to suffer through the horrible Forrest Gump theme. They have a guy dressed like Forrest walking around; avoid at all costs. The atmosphere and style of the restaurant all center around that, which, to me is a little tired. Although the food isn't bad, I think you can find some better eating arrangements when you're visiting Navy Pier. Lesson here: Don't stop at the first restaurant you see! more

Run Forrest Run 5/1/2006

That seems to be what other reviewers would have said to Forrest before dining here. My experience was better than theirs. We went on a weeknight and I did not order the shrimp, I ordered the maki maki (is that how you spell it) anyway, it's a kind of white fish that was tasty. I loved the movie Forrest Gump and got a kick out the decor and the theme. I bought a little toy from here because I love the film so much. The restaurant itself is OK, but we had a fun time at the Pier and usually do. more

Gross Overpriced Food 3/9/2006

Avoid Bubba Gump Shrimp at all costs. Not only is it overpriced, the food is absolutely disgusting. I got the calamari as an appetizer - it was average. But I ordered the peel and eat shrimp as my entree - disgusting. It was barely edible. I didn't realize you could ruin shrimp so badly. The waiter was okay, but not exactly attentive. The food seems old and nasty - do not go here! more

Basic Shrimp for Overboard Prices 3/8/2006

This is another one of the many places to eat on Navy Pier. But this is definitely one place I would not recommend. The lines here are insane, so by that you might be misled into thinking they have great food. But, NO! They serve up really basic shrimp dishes at very small portions and at very high prices. Plus, the service here isn't all that great and the restaurant has a very loud and casual atmosphere. Spend your money elsewhere. more

Rip Off! 1/14/2006

This restaurant is the biggest rip off on the pier. Its catered to tourists because it’s themed after the character from the movie Forrest Gump. This restaurant would be awesome if the prices weren’t so ridiculously high and there weren’t always a million people waiting to eat here. My order was just plain shrimp soaked in butter and it was like $20! I will say the staff is really friendly and they have really good frozen drinks but its not worth it overall. more

Don't go here! 8/17/2005

This restaurant is located on Navy Pier. It attracts a lot of tourists. But in my opinion, don't waste your money here. I went here and was disappointed when my expensive meal turned out to be just a few fried shrimp. At that price, I could have had a much better meal and one that was presented in a much nicer maner as well. And at the price I paid, I would expect not only good food, but a decent setting as well. Instead of tables, they have wooden benches. Not my idea of comfortable seating. I was not amused with the super-casual atmosphere, long waits, and overpriced food. more
