Best

For real, love this spot. Partied with some crazy work people and we will be going back for sure. Honestly one of my favorite bars in all of nyc. great atmosphere, great people.

Worst

We ordered drinks (stoli tonics) and got TONIC. We complained and got slighty better drinks, our second round the SAME thing happened. The crowd is a bunch of Carrie/Sex & City ...

go somewhere else 9/1/2011

overcrowded and overpriced. the bathroom was disgusting and my drink had a hair in it. WTF. it also took forever to get our drinks. but the biggest complaint of all...we ordered grey goose vodka martinis and they served some well vodka instead. it's not that i'm such a die-hard grey goose fan (i'm not) but I can surely tell the difference if you replace it with total crap. this is unacceptable. there are much better places to go than here. more

rude bartenders 8/31/2011

Went here a few weeks ago with a couple of work friends. The bartenders were rude and took forever to take our orders and then took forever to give us our drinks, and when we finally got our drinks they tasted bad. Never ever going back here. We went to another bar after we finished our first round of drinks. Waste of money, waste of time. more

Great Bar & Cool Rooftop 2/22/2011

I highly recommend Brass Monkey if you are looking for a fun bar after work or anytime. Not pretentious, plenty of seating. The upstairs bar is much more spacious and open than the downstairs. The rooftop is awesome too so go early to snag some tables! the roof is great for daytime cocktailing in the summer! the menu is yummy as well. great burgers, fries, hummos etc. I threw a 30th bday party for my best friend at Brass Monkey and it was a real hit as well. more

Rude Waitresses 10/25/2010

While the bar's decor has potential as a fun sports bar, the wait staff (specifically the females) were very rude. I was trying to have a good time and chat with my friends, but on several occasions two different waitresses were getting frustrated with the crowd and were having difficulty bringing food to another section of the bar. I was expecting a simple 'excuse me,' but instead they were making rude comments and getting very angry that the bar was crowded. I would have guessed that they would be used to the crowds, and even welcome them as it means more business for the bar! It was very difficult to have a good time with my friends as these waitresses were going out of their way to be rude to us. Luckily, there are several bars in NYC that we were able to move on to with much better service. more

VERY DISAPPOINTING 8/1/2010

Cool place, too crowded 3/10/2010

Loved the place and food was pretty decent, but it got so packed that we could not move. Was there for a party and thank god we had a table. Otherwise it would have been a nightmare. However it looks great, everyone seemed to be having a good time. Music was great. Pros: Cool atmosphere, great crowd, decent food Cons: too crowded more

safe 5/25/2009

great bar and a joy to little west 12th street, proper bar and now with outdoor space even better. so makes up for the failings in the street.. Pros: large bar more

fun bar without attitude in meatpacking district 11/19/2008

Best bar for a good time in w village/meatpacking, without the pretentious attitude at most other bars/clubs in the area. If you like having a good time, check out this bar. If not, try some other place Pros: Good crowd, good music, not pretentious more

Great space and rooftop but it gets crowded! 8/13/2008

I went to Brass Monkey on a girl's night out and love the space. Huge ceilings and beautiful wooden interior make this space beautiful and comfortable while promoting mingling. The rooftop bar is great but be prepared for a crowd. Pros: Great space, Good for after work drinks Cons: Crowded more

Shady Bartenders... 8/3/2008

All was great fun at this bar until we tried to close our tabs. After taking forever to acknowledge we were standing in front of them (mind you I'm a 6' blonde, kind of hard to miss), one of the bartenders on the second floor tried to way over charge me ($80 on a $25 tab). When I told him he was mistaken, that I'd said I was the only one ordering on my tab he insisted I didn't know what I had ordered, and that I'd never said that. He would only take 4 of the drinks off, and tried to make me feel guilty by saying I should be happy, I had gotten a free round out of it. Yeah, a free round that I never even drank. Pros: Roof deck, good music Cons: Ignorant and inattentive bartenders more

Great Roof Top! 7/21/2008

I went to Brass Monkey on Saturday night. We wanted to go somewhere that wasnt too Meatpacking and a bit more la*d back. The guy at the front door was really nice and let my buddy in who was wearing shorts...it was about a million degrees so i think he understood. The crowd was really good. Chill spot and cute guys. We went up to the roof top which was really packed but we carved out a little space for ourselves. One really awesome waitress even went and got drinks for us so we wouldn't have to go back downstairs. All in all great night and great bar. We will def be back. Pros: Cute guys. Roof Top. Chill bar in the midst of crazy more

Meat Packing Perfection 3/20/2008

This is what the Meat Packing District has always needed -a place for those that actually enjoy others company. No - it thankfully is not the place you go to see and be seen ( as I suppose was main problem the few who have called the clients here ugly had - maybe those that use those type of qualifiers should be forced to post a photo of themselves so we might all judge them as well.) Its a joint in the best use of that term. It feels like a REAL neighborhood place as soon as you walk through the door. Heads don't turn on a swivel to see ""who"" you might be. They are too busy enjoying each others company to bother. The food here is well above most pub food and the fish and chips are exceptional with a great bear selection. On spot bartenders that are friendly and attentive if you show up without attitude - its not that kind of place. For those of you that require that there are plenty of places like that in this neighborhood - PLEASE stay there and leave this rare space to the simple folk from the neighborhood and the like. Another up side to the bar are the ON SITE owners. Uncommon in this district where the owners of most of the places in the MPD rarely show their faces. Finally - coming down here at night wobbling in your 6""+ heels over the cobblestones and wearing the latest overpriced designer duds expecting a Meat Packing District experience- you will likely not find the Brass Monkey to your liking. But that's a shame - since it (along with Hectors and Hogs & Heifers) are what keeps the true flavor of this neighborhood intact. Pros: A real neighborhood bar Cons: Its not in a REAL neighborhood more

great ppl great fun 3/12/2008

i go to brass monkey very often. i love the place. its a breathe of fresh air in an otherwise snobby neighborhood. a little crowded at times but otherwise lots of fun. see dave at the back bar if you want strong drinks. oh and the security guy shaun i believe his name is omg! hes gorgeous and what a smile! Pros: nice place nice people Cons: overcrowded on the weekends more

Good time 10/20/2007

Came to Brass Monkey w/a group of 30 ppl and we lost a few trying to find it. We were recovering from Home/Guestlist trying to charge us bottle service for every 4 ppl. The nite went really well at Brass Monkey... a lil wait for drinks b/c of crowd. The bar filled up so much that there was noooo room to dance and it was hard to find people b/c it is a big bar. Overall it was good and everyone had a great time. more

Post Work Bar 6/28/2007

Lauren from work suggested a handful of us go the Brass Monkey after work. She picked a good spot as the beer selection was execellent, appetizers tasty and the crowd was fun. The place has quiet spots for talking on the front porch and the front of the bar and gets much more crowded and louder in the back of the bar. I'd recommend this place for After Work or if you are interested in meeting new people. more

Waist of time and money! 3/22/2007

Ugly people..... Horrible service.... Bad music.... Beastly bartenders. more

Had my birthday here and not only were the staff courtious, but they had all the booths waiting for us reserved. We danced and basically owned the place- This would be a fun place party or not!
