Wonderful 3/10/2009

My husband and I visited this restaurant 2 times and enjoyed it both times. We love the atmosphere the live jazz music and the personable waitress one in particular she treated us like we were her favorite customers on both occasions. The Wings that are broiled not fried were excellent!! We would refer this lounge to anyone that wants to relax and enjoy each other and listen to great music more

Incredible Overpriced and uncomfortable 9/15/2008

We were there this past Saturday, September 13th. It was horribly hot and humid. We were planning on eating across the street, but the wait was too long. We decided to stop at Brandt's. You could see we all were obviously hot. We were seated practically in the kitchen, even though there were plenty of open tables all around the restaurant. We all ordered beers. They have fancier imported, award winning beers that are pricy, which is to be expected. However their domestic bottles were horribly overpriced. I ordered the hot teriyaki burger. The server explained it was a mixture of teriyaki and hot sauce and it has won awards. There was NO teriyaki in that sauce. It was like eating a burger with wing sauce, which itself wasn't great. Than the side I picked was the garlic cheese mashed pototoes. The potatoes were the blandest things I have ever tasted. They were less flavorful than the kind you make from a bag of flakes at home. We had to pass it around the table and laugh at how horribly tasteless they were. I just expected for $12 to have a better burger and side. The spin dip was amazing, and my friend had the lobster ravioli, which was good. However, I won't go back. Pros: Spinach Dip and Lobster Ravioli Cons: Price, quality of food more

Decent food, small portions 8/17/2008

Went there around noon for lunch and a glass of wine with my girlfriend. She had said that the food was bad, however they totally redid the menu so we decided to try it out. I ordered the turkey patrami reuben and soup, and was somewhat dissapointed in the small portions--however the food quality was a little better then average. Her half wrap/salad was really good--she claims--and I somewhat agreed. She was also dissapointed about the wine menu, as they changed it and got rid of some of her favorites. The service was slow, however the server was very friendly. Pros: Big beer/wine list, outside seating Cons: Slow service, small portions more

will never go back 9/18/2007

My friends and I just moved here and were hanging out at the loop and were drawn in by the live music outside. We were promptly seated but not greated for a long time. When we did finally get a server, she clearly rolled her eyes that we ordered water. It was Sunday afternoon and there were fewer tables than staff in the place. It took 10 minutes before she came to take our order, and we were her only table. 15 minutes later we received the WARM SUSHI appetizer, gross! It was 40 minutes before we saw sign of any of our food, one sandwhich, missing the side and one bowl of soup. Did i mention there were four of us all together. We finally got the rest of our food, which were only sandwhiches. It was like pulling teeth trying to get salt and pepper on our table the rest of the staff was not helpful at all. The manager did her best to salvage the visit, but again the server failed to fill our glasses, and some of us had spicy meals. THe server should realize that and make an extra effort to be sure that your glass is filled. I have worked as a server for years in the past, and I was completely in awe of how terrible that place was. We all ended up feeling sick for the rest of the day, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was from the food. Highly not recommended. Pros: drink list, entertainment Cons: service, food, service more

Brandt's for dinner, not for brunch 7/26/2007

Brandt's recently started serving brunch and at first I was an enthusiastic brunch patron, but lately the food has been really going down hill. On one occasion I was first served spoiled OJ (GROSS!) and then I chose cream puffs off the buffet and the cream had spoiled in them. It was disgusting. Also, on that day they ran out of eggs and bacon. What started out as a nice brunch buffet with lots of original choices has turned into a buffet that any patron of sams club could put together. The food is all previously frozen and no where near as good as Brandt's dinner or lunch menu. Trust me, go for dinner, enjoy some jazz , have a bottle of wine. Have brunch some place else. Pros: Great dinner Cons: Terrible brunch! more

overpriced food, incredibly inept service. I've been visiting this place intermittently for more than 20 years when I come to town. The service has been uniformly terrible for years! 6/24/2007

The waitstaff and kitchen are disorganized, inefficient. My grilled salmon was raw in the center; we had to ask repeatedly for water refills. We were left sitting without follow up for more than 20 minutes repeatedly. Staff wanders in and out of the kitchen aimlessly, not carrying dishes or anything. They are not knowledgeable about food. The waitress said the topping on one of the desserts was some kind of rich, dark special chocolate. It was fondant! and not even good, edible fondant. Simply awful, and overpriced to boot. Pros: Central location, live music, ambiance, sort of. Cons: service, food, service, price, service! more

Great menu with a variety of food, authentic jazz and soul music 2/10/2007

Brandt's Restaurant is one of my favorite spots in St. Louis where I was born and raised. When I returned lately this was one of the three spots in St. Louis which really made my visit more exciting and pleasurable. Pros: music, crowd, food, bar, management, musicians, singers more

Don't Rush Me! 12/20/2004

Went here to see Erin Bode recently; eating was secondary. We shared a below average cheese pizza and were enjoying the music when we were gievn the bill & told, ""I don't mean to rush you, but this table is reserved for another party and they're waiting for you to finish."" I couldn't believe it! As a customer I can take as long as I want to eat - seat the other party at another table! We only got to hear Erin sing for 40 minutes before being hustled out. Don't think I'll go again. more

Hurry up 9/13/2004

Awesome food but the waitstaff is the worst in St.Louis. I consider myself a tolerant person but this place seriously tests my patience. Several times I have sat down and waited 10 minutes for someone to even come over to the table and get our order, then 15 mins later you recieve your warm beer, then 10 mins after youve finished it they bring you another followed by a half hour of waiting for your room temperature dinner. At this point in the meal you are too busy to complain so you gladly pay the ridiculous check and then wait 20 mins for the waitress to bring your credit card back!!! Pros: good atmosphere outsi, variety of brews Cons: , cold food more

My favorite 7/16/2003

This has got to be my favorite St. Louis restaurant. It's got the best spot for ""people watching"" anywhere and the food is always great! Whenever I have out of town guests this is the place I take them. I know we'll get great service (and nice servers too!) and it's one of the few places around that has live jazz every night. Pros: Great Food, Friendly servers, Great people watching Cons: Sometimes crowded more

Gotta love it! 12/27/2002

I haven't visited this former favorite haunt of mine for a number of months, but after my visit tonight I think I'll be going back often. I forgot how much I loved this place...laid back, great jazz and a dinner that rocked. My waitress recommended the grilled monkfish special and it was fabulous, all the way down to the vegetables. I give it a 10 and recommend this place to anyone that loves great food. Oh yeah...and a big beer list too! Pros: great food, big beer list, live music Cons: crowded more
