Cover charge for dinner? 2/14/2011

A Cover Charge to Eat DINNER??? On 2/12/2011 a group including myself and seven friends decided we wanted to go to the Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar for dinner. We were in town from Cincinnati for a friend’s 30th birthday celebration. Two out of our group went down there a little bit early, about 5:45p or so, to have a few drinks and grab a table large enough to fit all eight of us. The establishment told those two that we needed to be finished with our dinner by 8:30p because they had another large group coming in at that time to use the large table. We got to the restaurant at approximately 7:00p figuring we had plenty of time to get a meal in. The remaining six of our group, upon entering the door, we were greeted by a large man who looked like a bouncer. We told him we already had a table waiting for us and pointed to our friends who we could see about 20 ft. away. He then told us that it was going to be a $10 cover charge to get in. We tried to explain that we weren’t there to go to the bar, that we were going to be eating dinner and that our friends were holding a table for us and they didn’t have to pay a cover. “$10 is the cover charge tonight guys”, he explained. (Ridiculous.) After, again, explaining that we were there for only dinner and our other friends were already there, he said “I’ll see what I can do…” He then steps up to the bar and asks the bartender if they could cut us a break for the reasons aforementioned. She said “Sure. You can charge them half.” That’s cutting us a break? We have to pay $5 to even be able to look at your menu? That’s absurd. That doesn’t make much sense from a business perspective, either. You’re turning down what could amount to $300+ in food and drink sales over a $30 cover? Not to mention the bad word of mouth publicity you’ve created by ruining our plans for a birthday celebration. Any time in the future that I find myself in a conversation about Nashville, I will be sure to mention Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar as a place to be blacklisted. more

Worse staff 8/15/2010

Walked out after one drink. Of all the palces this is the only one I would never go back to in Nashville. Staff was not interested in the customers. more

Perfect Place to Cut Loose!! 2/2/2009

The Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar (aka BSBBB to those of us who love it) is the perfect place to go and have a great time with a group, large or small. My husband and I go regularly and have discovered that the staff operates more as a family, than just the typical bar staff. We love the music, specifically the house band, Josh Garrett and the Bottom Line, who always delivers a show that almost literally takes you to New Orleans during each and every appearance. We have always had a good time, even on weeknights. My favorite aspect of BSBBB is the atmosphere which is real, not "created" and reminds me so much of a party instead of just a bar with a band on stage. Go often, but make sure you go Thursday - Saturday, have a good time, and tip the staff and band well, they work their tails off!! If you like the Blues, Soul, Zydeco or Rock, you'll be hooked and you'll want to go back!! Pros: Great Parking Garage right at Printers Alley Cons: None that I have found more

Great house band 1/31/2009

If you like good blues music and a cool atmosphere, this place is the place. The house band, Josh Garrett and The Bottom Line is made up of some super talented musicians who hail from Louisiana - and they flavor their blues show with a little of that Cajun spice. Josh is a showman, and knows how to work the bar into a party-like atmosphere. Matt on the sax is unbelievably good - scary good, and Mark on the trumpet has more energy than a 3 year old hyped up on sugar. The bar itself is intimate, not so full of tourists, and really reminds me of a place you'd see in the French Quarter in New Orleans. The staff is friendly and sometimes very busy - especially on a crowded Saturday. As far as the food goes, we've had the fries and the wings and both were good and we didn't wait long at all. Come for the show. I'd suggest a Thursday or Friday night. If you like good blues and a dash of zydeco, go see Josh Garrett & The Bottom Line at Bourbon Street Boogie & Blues Bar!! You will not be disappointed. Pros: Best blues house band in town Cons: A little drafty when it's cold outside. more

One of the Worst place I have ever been to. 12/30/2008

Earlier reviews must have been written by management or place has run down since. Went on 30 December 2008 about 7PM and was told they had "just opened" which means they opened an hour late. Was told the band would not be playing until 9PM apparantly they were showing up late as well. Looked at menu and found it to be different than website. Ordered Apps and after waiting 30 minutes cancelled order. Overheard management practically begging for help on the phone. Informed Management we were unhappy but she did not even attempt to compensate us for THEIR problems. I would NEVER go back to such a unprofessional, unappealing and unsatisfying establishment. Pros: Umm...quiet? Cons: Everything... you name it. more

Great Blues Bands 8/21/2008

Simply the best Blues bar in and around Nashville. Burning Las Vegas was superb! I took a friend here on my visit back to Nashville and he loved it. This visit made me extremely home sick as I consider Nashville my home. Excellent acoustics, the food is good, the stage and seating are a bit small but it adds a personal touch. Pros: Great Music and Service Cons: Small accomodations, does tend to get a bit crowded more

a taste of New Orleans 3/10/2007

This is a great spot! The food is awesome. Try the catfish and the gumbo. Yum! The music has always been good, and the crowd is friendly. It can get crowded. If you want a table you better reserve one in advance. Definitely the place in Nashville to let the good times roll... Pros: good music, spicy food Cons: not a lot of tables more

9 2/19/2007

I was in your bar a week ago and just loved the atmosphere- the barkeep Nikki was awesome! the band Stacy Michard was really good and so was the food! I love the mural on the back wall and was told your head cook did it what a neat and unique piece of work ! Pros: fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Amazing Band! 9/25/2006

We happened across the Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar and decided to stay for the show... Boy, were we glad we did! At first it appeared all the good seats were reserved, but after inquiring with the waitress, she found that two members of a reserved party had not shown, and moved us into some excellent seats directly above the band! Stacey Mitchhart and Blues U Can Use kept us bobbin' all night!! It's great to see a band that is so talented and enthusiastic!! Best show I've seen in years!! more

Great Live Music 12/6/2005

Nice little bar....very smokey. But the band I saw "Charles Mack Band" from Chicago last November was absolutely the best. They played blues with funk, soul and a little rock thrown in. Alot of original music also. The dance floor was packed all nite long. They are playing again Dec 15 & 16 and I am going to be there both nights with friends. more

Can't beat Stacy Mitchhart 12/3/2005

Found Printers Alley late on Thursday evening. Bourbon Street Blues was the only place selling food & It was great !! You couldn't beat the live entertainment either! Stacy Mitchhart and his out of this world blues band rocked the house. It's a don't miss! Pros: Great Live Music, Tasty late night full, Affordable more

Cool Little Spot! 7/11/2005

The Blues Bar (what I like to call it) it a cool little bar on Printers Ally. It is small and somewhat smokey but hey its a bar! But even that it is still a cool little place. The bands are great and it is a awesome place to hang with your friends have some drinks and hear some great Blues! more

Great Potential 7/2/2004

This bar has the greatest potential in town. But it's high cost of cover, terribly smokey and stuffy environment, mediocre food, has kept it from being a MUST stop on the music scene. Neat interior, very reminiscent of New Orleans, and hot bands is definitely a plus. Their policy of reserving tables up front, keeps most of us upstairs in the back, which is Definitely not worth the $10 cover! Pros: Location, Good Bands, Unique to Nashville Cons: , Smokey, High Cover more

Great Music, smoke filled 11/15/2003

Great music, but the place has no oxygen. Very smoke filled. Though some say the food is good there is no way you could taste it in such smoke. Definitely a party-feel to the place, but also feels like a fire-trap. Pros: Good Music, Party Feel Cons: Too much smoke, Closed in feel more

Great Mardi Gras party 3/6/2003

If you've never been to Bourbon St. Blues & Boogie Bar on Fat Tuesday, you're missing out. I wish it had a slightly younger crowd, but most 20-somethings aren't into the blues scene. Fortunately , inhibitions are out the door at this bar, so buy some beads to throw at the ladies. They won't disappoint you. Pros: great house band, great atmosphere, flashing ladies Cons: steep cover more

Stacy Mitchhart & Blues u can use RULES! 11/16/2002

Bourbon Street Blues & And Boogie Bar is a MUST SEE! Stacy Mitchhart and band have got to be the best I've seen... Nashville is an awesome town, A annual trip from from New Hampsire is necessary for one reason: To visit Printers Alley and the Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar with Stacy Mitchhart and Blues U can Use. Check It Out... you wont be dissapointed. Pros: Stacy Michhart, Great Drinks, Great Food more

Let the Good Times Roll 10/26/2002

A lot of the "old South" and "old Nashville" atmosphere in this Bar. Gives one a sense of comfort and familiarity. The longer I live here, the more I have come to appreciate it's charm and quirks. Hey, it's Nashville, and as I once heard Willie Nelson say, there only used to be 2 places to play music in Nashville - The Ryman and The Alley! God bless us everyone! more

- 10/21/2002

kinda cool, but touristy and overpriced ($10 cover for a house band). however, the place is kinda roomy and has sort of a Pat O'Brien's feel to it. good place to take a date or clients, but not for a guys' night out. oh, and the cover got us into a couple of other bars in Printer's Alley. more

  • In Short
Printer's Alley was once Nashville's most thriving nightclub scene, and this raucous blues club helps keep that legacy alive. The bar, which aims to transport visitors to New Orleans with its Crescent City decor, also serves up New Orleans style Cajun cuisine. The kitchen stays open until midnight. The house band, Stacey Mitchhart and Blues U Can Use, plays several times a week, and their smoking set has attracted a wide following.
