Great Place For Poseurs! 6/15/2008

When it comes to music venues, there is never a shortage of complainers about the place. It's too loud, the drinks are too expensive, etc. Bottom line is, BOTH is my favorite of music venues in the city. Great, loud, rock and roll, reasonable priced drinks, pool, patio, friendly staff. Very low key place imo and lacking poseurs in a city that's practically choking on them.... more

Poserville 11/20/2007

If you are a mainstream lifer and want to sneak away from your everyday life and pose around with some other posers? this is the place for you.Occasionally they will bring in some good national touring acts through but for the most part the people that hang out there are wannabes of the SF music scene.Bar staff is cool but the people who go there really are sickening.Dont take it from me.Go check it out yourself. But dont say i didnt tell you so. Pros: great out of the way spot, lots of parking Cons: way to many posers more

Great small venue 11/23/2006

Saw SF's own Two Gallants. Great little venue. Reasonable drink prices and plenty of parking. Great place! Pros: Lots of parking, good drink prices Cons: More good bands! more

Super badass 8/17/2006

I was in town for some hellish all-day business meeting, and I snuck out for an escape. Stumbled across this place, and at 6 PM they had 3 GREAT happy hour original bands! Great suds, prices ok for SF, a great non-snooty vibe. I am definitely coming back here when I am in town again. Pros: great music, happy hour Cons: crowded more

Great bands in a fun spot but... 3/27/2004

There's plenty of free parking & the place is really cool. It's all about funkiness & history & that's really great. There's a back patio area for smoking & getting some fresh air & that's fun. They always have great bands. Because of these things I recommend the place, but... The bad part: The sound is never quite right, though and it's always way TOO LOUD! It's not just me, either, there's always a huge crowd of people on the side of the stage trying to avoid the blast of the speakers. If you don't have earplugs, it's so loud you can hardly tell what's going on. If you do have earplugs, well, earplugs are just no fun, are they? The bar is overpriced & the bartender didn't even know how to make one of my very simple & common drinks. Also, there's a serious shortage of chairs/stools inside. Pros: atmosphere, free parking, shows Cons: , expensive drinks more

Arnal of the hill 10/2/2002

I'm going tonite once again up to that great attic named the bottom of the hill to hear, see and smell my well loved non local band (they come as far as Sacramento), and then i 'll go to the patio smoke my Marlboro when the second band starts. Oh , I'm going now... ARnal the Bottom Pros: c'est bien, c'est tout rouge, devilish atmosphere more

Bands and BBQ 5/19/2002

Funky, down-home spot to catch local bands. Best thing--there's an outdoor patio where you can hang out and rest your ears if the band's too loud. Not a place for fancy drinks--just grab a pint and rock out. Don't miss the Sunday afternoon all-you-can-eat bbq. more

  • In Short
Pastel-painted walls give way to a landscape featuring Spanish-style roofing and a chimney that slopes toward the checkered dance floor. A lengthy bar stretches across the right side of the main room, where traditional cocktails and a dozen or so draft beers are available. On any given night, the focal point is the small, elevated stage surrounded by brick walls and festooned with a string of Christmas lights.
