Its like being in Italy. 8/13/2009

Bottega del Vino is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The food there trully tastes like real Italian food from starters to desert. The only problem is some staff member have a bit of attitude. I wish Severino (owner) would check on them in order to provide customers with great experience in all aspects. One time a blond lady server, who basically neglected me and my friend throughout our whole meal, changed the amount we wrote on the cc stuff for tip. We should not even have left her anything, but we did leave an 18% tip...and she changed it. I contacted my credit card and got really frustrated. Did not file a claim since it was a small dollar amount...but it just did not feel right. I love the food and still got here BUT i pay cash now. When you are inside the restaurant, its ambiance takes you to Italy. Pros: food Cons: service from some staff members more

ALWAYS A WINNER 5/14/2009

My daughter and I stumbled across this wonderful restaurant a year ago after too long of a wait at Sarabeth's for brunch. We were immediately impressed with the service. We also loved the all day panini menu and fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. We have been back many times since and have always had a great experience. I personally enjoy the lunch and brunch the best, but the dinner is good too. Pros: Everything more

what's with the indifferent service? 3/16/2008

The restaurants in New York must be spoiled or something because with just a little more effort they could make an average meal exceptional. Nice works, indifferent is repulsive. \r I thought the food and wine here was exceptional and so did my companion. It's a noisy tumultuous place and I knew that going in, but I'll say again that the service is where restaurants fall short. Try looking me in the eye and smiling. Pros: food, wine Cons: snotty waiters more

Good food.great wine 9/6/2007

Hi,i've been the first time at Bottega de vino about 4 mounths ago with my husband, that time i had a very good service and good dinner, our waiter was an italian guy, blue eyes, very kind, his name's mateo,he was just arrived from the same city where the original Bottega is, the city of Verona, and he told us he's proud to work in Bottega, he was an excellent waiter but this time he wasn't there, maybe it was his day off.\r The service wasn't the same, the italian guy had something extra, anyway we enjoied drinking a bottle of wine Mateo suggested us, th e amarone, from his city, Verona, the food was good from the antipasto to the gelato and espresso.\r Hoping the next time Mateo will be there.\r Amanda and Bill more

ok 2/13/2007

Food was good i have to say, the place, by the way, was too loud, not the kind of place i'd like to go back even if ,again ,the food was really good as i said, too many runners around you but still a pretty long wait to get the check , anyway most important negative thing was the wine list that everyone here keep saying being fabulous, and YES they have a lot of wines to choose from but still, every single bottle is ridicolously OVERPRICED , to get something decent you have to go over $ 100(i mean are you kidding me?) . It was very disappointing , i ended up getting 1 glass of wine ($20) not because i didn't have the money to spend on it , BUT because in the very poor list of Sicilian wines they had the Planeta Syrah for about $ 120 and i am sorry guys but that is a wine that you can easily find in the SUPERMARKET in Italy for about 15 euros so that was absolutely ridicolous and i didn't even bother to keep looking the list. Bottom line is, food is good but wine list is absolutely out of the game, well , at least if you are italian and you are used to eat and drink the real deal, buon appetito. Pros: Food Cons: wine list(yes!) too loud more

Great Overall experience 1/9/2007

Had a fantastic date here. The overall atmosphere is very relaxed and not loud which was nice because I've been at places where you can't hear yourself think. The waiter was very helpful in assisting us make a wine selection as their binder of choices can be a little overwhelming. We both chose fish for our main course-bass and sole. The waiter fileted (sp?) the fish right at our table and the meal was outstanding. We received great service all night.....definitely recommended to try. Pros: Fantastic food, great wine selection Cons: Older crowd more

Excellent food - too bad service is slow and my only terrible coat check experience in New York City 12/20/2006

It started off nice. We were a reservation for 6 people, but ended up being 7. They moved us to a bigger table without hesitating. You have to be so patient for good food here. Getting the attention of the server to order to and to get the check was a challenge. Still thought, overall, the experience was great. Then, it ended up bad right before walking out the door. The staff could not find my friend's coat. My friend went into the coat room and found it on the floor. Then they couldn't find my coat at all. The room was dark and they tripled up coats on each hanger. It was nearly 11 pm and almost everyone in the restaurant was leaving so the staff retrieved nearly 20 people's coats before they finally found mine. At a nightclub or some bar, I would have expected this and would have even blamed myself for bothering to check my coat, but a place where people plunk down serious money for food and wine?? No way. It's such a shame because I would never go back there out of principle. It was Restaurant Management 101 - easily preventable! more

Authentic upscale version of the original Bottega in Verona 10/23/2006

This is the most authentic Veronese restaurant you will find in the Big Apple... the food is fantastic, wine selection spectacular!!!! The kitchen worked diligently for weeks before the opening of the restaurant two years ago to replicate the taste of the original Bottega. Yes, the NY times did not give it raving reviews but as my dear friend once told me, ""Rome was not built in one day""... so two years later, I am delighted to say that the NY Bottega has impressed my Italian friends as well as many others. And don't forget to ask Maurizio for wine suggestions.\r \r The sad part for me, well, it was always easy to decide to come last minute without a reservation but nowadays, to guarantee myself an amazing Italian feast, I must plan ahead. \r \r And for those of you who will not make it to Verona and want a taste of one of the best restaurants in Italy, well, you can get a taste of it here! Pros: Food and wine Cons: Service more

Everything but the service 6/7/2006

Great ambience, great wine selection, fresh and delicious dishes, and spectacular gelati! But what started as very attentive and friendly service started to disintegrate as the restaurant started to fill up. It took us half an hour to get the attention of our waiter to order dessert and another 15 minutes to ask for the bill after dessert. Despite this difficulty, I would still go back considering everything else was wonderful. Pros: Vino. Herb toasted bread. Dark and intimate atmosp Cons: Impossibility of locating waiter more

Italia at New York! 3/7/2006

I just relocated from Italy. Coming in this wonderful restaurant moves me everytime. If you think that Italian food is sauces, meatballs, seasoning and parmigiana, please don't come here. Because this is one of the few restaurants in New York where you can eat real italian gourmet cuisine. Exceptionally balanced dishes, great wine selection, superlative setting and atmosphere. Look at the service, the polished stemware and attention to detail. Just the way a sophisticated Italian restaurant you might find at Verona or Bologna. Pricey? Not for this quality! Pros: Sophistication, Gourmet cuisine, Ambience Cons: No meat balls!, No overseasoning more

Delicioso 2/22/2006

Excellent food, staff, and decor. The wine list is incredible. We held a small party of 10 and the restaurant was very accommodating! Pros: Excellent food, Wine, Ambiance more

A taste of Italy in Manhattan 1/26/2006

First time here. Food was excellent and the wait staff could not be better. You were catered to and not rushed. Staff was eager to make recommendations/suggestions and answered all questions with knowledge. Decor reminds me of eating establishements I've been to in Italy. Food again was not just a name on the menu but very well made and fresh. Some items I've only seen previously in Italy. Pricey but worth it for that special moment. Pros: Food, service, decor more

Romantic, Top Wine List, Stemware Gorgeous, Yummy 1/14/2006

My first impression when I walked in was ""Wow this place is so romantic"" and the wine list has top bottles from around the world with a large Italian selection. The owners are from Verona, Italy and also import their own line of glass. The entire table was filled with gorgeous stemware which you can also order. Food was gourmet and good to last bite. The decor was stunning with every single thing imported from Italy. Downstairs I saw a wine tasting going on in a large banquet room. Right near Central Park and a parking garage across the street. This is the place to propose to your girlfriend, hands down. Absolutely perfect setting for that! Pros: Romantic & Delicious, Impressive Clientele, Wine List & Parking Cons: Horses Stink in Park more

well worth it 8/8/2005

it has the feel and flavor of italy. can't miss more

A Gem 8/3/2005

One visit was all I needed and now I am obsessed with this restaurant. The ambiance is phenomenal; all the painted wooden columns and authentic tables make you feel as if you have been transported to a small village in Italy. From the moment you walk in the door, the staff is eager to please you every need, but they don't even need to try because once you get your food life is complete. I would also recommend visiting Bottega for a casual lunch; their sandwiches and cappuccinos make a perfect afternoon snack. Pros: Décor, Food, Wine List more

A New Favorite 8/2/2005

This restaurant was a culinary delight. The ambiance was beautiful and the service was impeccable. The food was well worth every penny, as it was delicious. The wine list was beyond impressive. I highly reccomend this restaurant. more

Fantastic ... a true food and wine experience 8/2/2005

In a city filled with restaurants...we no longer go out to eat just for the food but also for the experience of it. Bottega Del Vino is truly like visiting Italy. Be prepared to sip the finest wines and dine on such splendid flavors as the Torellini Bottega (hand-made tortellini filled with prosciutto, veal and beef in a porcini-butter sauce -- it is to die for!), and Constoletta di vitello al gorgonzola (Veal). Be sure to finish up with a cup of cappucino -- it is the best in the city. The staff is well-informed and very helpful. Be sure to ask to view the wine cellar on your way out. Bottega Del Vino is romantic but also great for a large groups. The wine cellar would be a wonderful place to throw a private dinner. Pros: Food, Wine, Staff more

Hidden gem 7/25/2005

I walked by this place several times without realizing it was a restaurant. This must be one of the few unknown gems left in this city. I came here for lunch. We were seated immediately, without a reservation. The waiters were extremely courteous and very serious about formalities. That said, they were not snooty and I am extremely pleased with the service. The food was spectacular. The whole seabass was one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. I am told both the snapper and the risotto are also good. Many if the times on the menu include a pork product of some kind, but there are plenty of non pork items as well. The decor is very pleasant. The prices are certainly expensive, but in my opinion absolutely worth it. I will keep this place in mind for important and special occasions. Pros: Amazing food, Excellent service Cons: Expensive more
