BOSTON BILLIARD CLUB CLOSES DOWN PERMANENTLY 1/8/2009

BOSTON BILLIARD CLUB CLOSES AFTER 19 YEARS!!!! I was a regular patron who played there consistantly for the past 14 years; participated in their 8 ball league (an won once); and had at least 900 plus hours of pool time credited on my BBC member's card. They had the one of the best pool hall facilities in New England - and I've been to just about every major place around. OK, some of the pool tables need a bit of fixing up lately, but they were still acceptable (and they just started to re-cloth some of the tables). And I shall miss all the nice waitresses there - the sexiest and most beautiful in the world! Those micro-mini dresses they wore were dazzling. Most of them were pretty smart too - college or graduate students ("Hey, there's Danielle on her break reading a textbook like it was a paperback novel!"). When I went to the Boston Billiard Club last Sunday at noon (Jan 4th ) for the last time, I saw the "Closed" sign. Shocked, I slowly walked away. As I looked back, I saw two of the regular waitresses arrive at the entrance. By their expressions, I realized that they had not been fore-warned of the closing, and I felt really bad for them, was well as all the other employees and friends I had met at the club. Not a nice way to end things, but I guess all good things eventually come to an end. Frank C. Cons: CLOSED DOWN - NO LONGER IN BUSINESS more

a ripoff 1/4/2009

I played at b,b, for about 6yrs. and then without telling anyone they just closed it. Around 50 of us showed up for the weekend tourney to find locked doors. Did I mention that was in between sessions and they kept prize money and trophies. I've been told not all of them closed so figured I'd warn people that lived around those ones not to trust them and if possible find a new place to play. happy new year Pros: ????? Cons: they just shut down more

Wasted Staff = Horrible Service 1/4/2009

I usually enjoy this place to play some pool, but after this horrible experience with service, I'll never go back. We decided to go there late after work (around midnight) knowing they were open til 2am. It wasn't crowded at all, and there were a bunch of waitresses working. We flagged down the one in our area to get the lights at our table turned on, and then flagged her down again to order a round of drinks. Not sure why we had to flag her down, since I'm pretty sure we were her only table. We could tell right away that she was wasted - she was skipping around the pool hall and was all over my friend while taking his drink order. We finished our drinks and were hoping to order another, but she was hard to find. After a while, we finally called her over and ordered another round and played some more pool. When it came time to order another round (well before 1am), she was yet again nowhere to be found. At that point, the manager walked by us and was corralling the entire staff (most of whom also appeared to be wasted) into one of the private rooms next to our table, where she proceeded to shut the doors. I can only assume they all went in there to take shots or something... When they finally came out, our waitress never came over to us. We finally got her attention to order another round at 1:40, and she told us last call was at 1:30. Would've been nice if she had come around to give us last call. We didn't even finish our game - we just checked out and left. Since we both work in the restaurant industry, we always tip well no matter what - but not this time, and I still think we left too much. I've done my fair share of drinking behind the bar, but I would never let it interfere with customer service. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant/bar/lounge. Cons: Service more

Building owner 12/21/2008

First off, the club is fun. Staff is consistantly great. Sadly, the owner of the building isn't so smart. He has made the parking lot behind the club "private". So during a parking ban like this weekend, the customers have no place to park anymore. Hard for the club to make money to pay his rent if there are no customers. Sad waste of a great club. Here's hoping he developes a brain in the new year. Pros: waitstaff, bartenders, desk help Cons: worn tables, limited parking more

decent 8/12/2008

boston billiards is a decent hang out for a sox game, but id rather go to cask or game on. their food needs work (burgers are weird tasting, not juicy like you'd expect). but they recently brought back $2 miller lite drafts which my wallet appreciates. the waitresses seem to be careless at times and even on non-game nights it sometimes takes them a while to realize you need another round. overall its just okay. Pros: $2 drafts Cons: waitstaff more

Disappointed with service, will not go back. 4/14/2008

We were disappointed with the service. Several (at least 5) food and drink orders that we never ordered were placed in the room that our group had rented out. This occurred throughout the course of the evening--and apparently the staff didn't notice until we complained near the end. When we returned a few of the items and asked them to be taken off the bill, the waitress told us they were "never on the bill" in the first place. This was before we got the bill. But later we found a few more unordered items, and they were on the bill we got. To the staff's credit, all the unordered items were taken off. But it should have never happened in the first place, and we had to stay a while and sort everything out. We will not be giving them our business in the future. Pros: The ambience of the private rooms and the pool tables were decent. Cons: Disappointing service more

great place to watch game 10/4/2005

Great place to watch the sox if you can't get tickets. There game day menu is affordable and you can't beat the $2 drafts. Staff is very friendly. Pros: friendly staff, good service, clean Cons: none more

Bachelor Party 6/23/2003

I reserved one of Boston Billiard's Club private rooms as a stopping off point for my brother's bachelor party. The BBC staff was very helpful in the planning process by making suggestions for food and games. Once there, the staff (manager and waitresses) were as nice as they could possibly be and very attentive to our needs. The atmosphere is pretty casual, but this is not a sleazy pool hall. The tables are in excellent condition and the price of pool and drinks is very reasonable. Pros: Nice Staff, Price Cons: Choices:Pool or Drink more

good time 2/13/2003

This is a nice place to hang out and play some pool. Nice mixed crowd, not full of the scary poolshark types you find in other pool halls. The waitresses are generally attentive to your cocktail needs and the tables are kept fairly nice. Pros: Nice tables, Good service Cons: pricey drinks more

A Great Boston Experience 1/29/2003

The Boston Billiard Club is a great place to hang out. Whether you're stopping by after work or coming in with a bunch of your friends, the atmosphere is always pleasurable. I enjoyed the brand new sections with leather seating and great service from the many beautiful servers. Also for great parties, the two new private rooms are available for rent any day of the week at a relatively low cost. Also the price is right, costing $10/hr on a regular night with almost never a wait for a table. Drink prices are a little costly, but the selection is almost limitless. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great Boston experience. Pros: Friendly Atmosphere, Excellent Lounge, Great Drink Selection Cons: Costly Drinks, Crowded Tables more

The Game of Clue 7/18/2002

Remember the billiard's room in the game of CLUE...that's is what this place looks like--leather chairs, books, and all. Great open place to play pool. Not too smoky. Not a pick-up place like Jillian's. Decent drink selection. You don't have to wait too too long for a table. Right near Fenway. Pros: good parking, not too crowded more

Worth a Try 6/28/2002

Very cool atmosphere, but bring lots of $$$. BB has a very cool atmosphere, nice leather chairs to sit in, plenty of space and pool tables. Prices are a bit high, but when you notice every waitress (in knee high boots and short skirts) could be a model, the prices seem to get better.... Pros: hot waitresses, leather seats, space Cons: prices more

More than just a pool hall 5/16/2002

If you want a singles-scene, go to always-crowded Rack. But if you actually want to play pool, try out Boston Billiards. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Pool players searching for the area's best place for a serious game eschew Jillian's frenetic "adult playground" atmosphere in favor of the BBC's 55 picture-perfect tables. Weekends and Red Sox game nights draw standing-room crowds (expect to wait for a table), while non-game nights feature a decidedly calmer scene. Mainstream rock tunes and suggestively dressed cocktail waitresses add to a gentleman's club vibe.

    The Draw
While the overwhelming majority of patrons come to shoot pool, those who don't fill the bar and lounge areas to watch sporting events while drinking draught beers and snacking on an extensive menu of bar-food favorites (heaping plates of nachos, messy hot wings). Strategically placed TVs ensure that pool-playing patrons get to follow the big game, while fleet-footed waitresses keep them from having to miss a turn.
