Can I get an 12/27/2008

This was the first gay bar I visited on my trip to San Antonio. It looked very promising with the amount of space and multiple dance floors. After a while the crowd started showing up and that's when things took a turn for the worse. My partner and I was bumped, shoved, and pushed so much and only about 3 or 4 people said excuse. The dance floors were horrible. Just inside the entrance, the bar on the left hand side was crowded to capacity with great music. The other two dance-floors offered much more space but the music left a lot to be desired. There were way more straight people than gay people in the club the whole while we were there. The rudeness of the crowd along with the majority of straight people made this club experience very uncomfortable. Pros: great drinks, grill in the back patio Cons: rude customers, more of a straight club vibe more

Great Place to go Dance 7/27/2008

I love this club. Known of it forever, but, just recently started going out here. cheap drinks. great crowd. friendly people. great dance music. Pros: Great Music, Great drinks, inexpensive drinks and cover Cons: Small walkways, gets really crowded on Fridays, minors can come in more

Great music 2/14/2007

I Love the music. This is a place you can go if you don't want to be judge. You don't have to worry about any cheesy pick up lines from drunk people,....unless if that's what you like. Pros: Great music Cons: Having to go up and down the stairs more

Great time 1/27/2007

My partner and I came in for the weekend from Houston and decided to check out Bonham for our first San Antonio club experience. We had a fantastic time. Everyone was friendly, from the door staff to the bar tenders. They really made us feel welcome. There are different dance floors with different tastes of music so there is something for everyone. It started getting really busy around midnight, and the well drinks are CHEAP! Get there before 10pm and you get in free. Otherwise there is a big cover. We took a taxi from our hotel so we didn't have to worry about getting back after drinking, and the fare was barely $5. It's definitely worth it. We'll be back to Bonham on our next visit. Pros: cheap drinks, free cover before 10pm, friendly bartenders Cons: small walkways make it difficult to navigate through some of the access ways. bathroom on the lower floor is inconvenient and small, and gets cramped easily more

Bonham is a Blast 9/7/2005

I have been going to the Bonham for at least nine years now and I never have had a bad experience. Its a great place to go for drinks and dancing! Pros: atmosphere, good drinks, good for dancing Cons: parking more

Best Dance club in SA 8/6/2005

We have loved the Bonham for years. There is just nothing like the Bonham. It is the perfect place to mix with all kinds of people; age, sex, race, sexuality: none of this seems to matter when you are there. I have found myself starting up conversations with some of the most unlikely people. The music is great, and you can dance until 4am if you have the energy! Even though there are soooo many people there, especially on fridays, they don't dog you by tring to get snobby or raising the prices. Fridays and Saturdays the Bonham has been our spot for the past five years, and the drinks and the covers have been the same the whole time I have been going there. We just love the Bonham! Pros: crowded, inexpensive, fun, fun, fun Cons: crowded, pay for parking more

Usual Saturdays 6/9/2005

Formally from San Antonio, this is one place I bring my guests to. Saturday before 10 pm with no cover; drink specials before 11. What place to start off the night before a night of bar hopping/dancing. 3 dance floors; every bar open; where else to start off the night?? Also....what happened to STR8 night on Wednesdays??? There was more eye-candy on that night! Pros: drink specials, no cover b4 10 SAT Cons: parking more

San Antonio Hot Spot 10/17/2004

The Bonham is a fabulous club to get lost in. With dancing on three floors, and lots of ins and outs, you can easily get turned around in this huge turn of the last century building. The people are friendly, the drinks are great, and the music is hot. We always go out before 10 so we can avoid paying cover, and there are always drink specials, even on the weekend. We have been going to the Bonham for two years, and go out to dance at least a few times a month. Fridays are really popular, so they get crowded. We prefer Saturdays, where it's full, but you can still find your own space. Long live the Bonham!!! Pros: inexpensive, great meeting place, dancing after hours Cons: , gets hot more

Fridays!! 7/31/2003

This is the place to be if you're gay on Friday's! They offer all well drinks for $.75 all night and great music. They offer 4 different bars and the place is huge. On Saturdays go to the Heat or the Saint. more

Nice place 3/13/2003

Okay, just wish that there were a little bit more women. Pros: inexpensive, good music, late hours Cons: crowded, rude staff more

  • In Short
Since 1891, this Alamo-adjacent building has housed a number of establishments, including a German athletic club and the USO during WWII. In 1981 it became the Bonham Exchange, with five bars and three dance floors--three of the five bars are named after Alamo heroes. Worth mentioning are the Travis bar, which offers a view of the main ballroom's dance floor, and the Gymnasia, which has a capacity of over 1,000 and has previously featured Debbie Harry and Tina Turner.
