Best Salon Experience in or outside Manhattan!!!! 12/19/2008

Bodhi salon is everything a salon should be. Before you walk in you get a sense of what the people inside are like. From the brightly colored sign to the humorous window decorations Bodhi is very welcoming-not to mention Enzo, the australian shepherd who welcomes you as you enter. The entire staff is a dream. Adelle and Jean Marc are so much fun to talk to much less having them create works of art with your hair. Jean Marc is always on the same page as I am when doing a consultation before i even get my hair washed. He pays so much attention to detail and really makes you feel as though you are the only client in the room. I could give him a vague idea of what I think I want my hair to look like and he always gets it right. His artistry is amazing! I can't tell you how many complements I get on my haircuts from Bodhi. These people are very professional, punctual, friendly, incredibly talented, and amazingly affordable. I always look forward to my time spent there. I also tell people that if I didn't live in Brooklyn I would still make the trek to Bayridge to schedule a haircut form Jean Marc. I can't say enough good things about this salon and these people! Get a haircut with Bodhi! Best haircut in all five boroughs- for your money, time, artistry, and well being! Pros: haircut, atmosphere, staff, products, enzo the dog, service, service, service more

edgy, modern, precision hair 12/18/2008

I first went to Bodhi salon years ago when they had just opened & loved my experience. I went several times for cut & color, more than pleased with the results every time, but moved out of the area. After never being able to replace the level of service & satisfaction that I got from being a client at Bodhi, I moved back to Brooklyn and now travel from Bushwick to get my hair done in Bay Ridge... quite a hike by public transportation but SO worth it! I trust them implicitly to give me a cut that's right for ME... age-appropriate but cutting edge, I always feel especially hip after a new haircut at Bodhi. Their prices are right, the people are friendly, the haircut is always amazing. I have even let myself go too long in between this time, but it's grown out so well, as if Jean-Marc knew I was going to wait too long to schedule another cut, which is me to a tee... I can't wait to go back, hope someone cancels this Saturday so I can go before Christmas! more

I go there to be pretty! 12/5/2008

First, in response that crazy person saying Jean-Marc's beard creepy looking needs to go to a old mans barber shop to have some plain old man give her a plain cut to make her look as old and plain as the barber. Jean-Marc is French but dont hold that against him. He makes me look pretty ALL the time. I happen to like his little beard! Pros: Best salon I've been to hands down. Cons: Uhhh....nope none. more

Jean-Marc is French but dont hold that against him. He makes me look pretty ALL the time. I happen to like his little beard! Adeline is a detailed expert! She's not the uptight high heeled fake stylist you usally get. She is real and she's GOOD. Her highlights last forever - she gets super close to your scalp without touching it. Unlike most salon owners - they do not suggest ridiculous treatments or work your hair doesn't need. They dont push you to buy anything. Which actually makes me walk out with something all the time. Plainly put, they are worth every penny. Everyone there is wonderful. Thanks Adeline and Jean-Marc! I'm coming back to look pretty again!. Have I left anything out? JK Pros: Best salon I've been to hands down. Cons: Uhhh....nope none. more

Very happy! 11/14/2008

I recently got my hair cut and blonde highlights here. Both Adeline and Jean-Marc took their time to assess my hair and talk to me about what I wanted to achieve. I am usually conservative with my cut and color and don't look to make radical changes. I also get bleach highlights which can be drying for long hair. Jean- Marc gave me a fantastic cut while keeping my length. Adeline's highlights are the best I've ever gotten. She got the color so close to the scalp that I won't have roots for a while. Sometimes colorists don't get close enough and you'll leave the salon with roots. But not this time. The highlights are extremely natural and a nice blonde color. She also suggested I get a gloss to help my hair maintain its shine. I took her advice and with the cut, color, blowout and gloss the bill was less than I usually pay at other salons. I'll be back for my next color in 10 weeks. I am glad that I tried this place after reading other reviews. Pros: great cut and color, price, staff Cons: none more

A bad haircut at Bodhi that only a weave could fix..... 11/12/2008

I had damaged hair from too much bleaching, and went in to get my hair trimmed to help get rid of split ends. I felt pretty good at the salon, enjoyed the quiet atmosphere.... But unfortunately, the haircut was so ugly looking (like a chipmunk kind of basket-looking thing on my head) that I was told I didn't have to pay, and then proceeded to burst into tears as soon as I stepped out of the salon. Jean-Marc became rather bitchy and said "I hope you find a good stylist," while he stewed and reclined on the couch. He has a very creepy beard, by the way, like a devil/goat. So, that's right, I was on the street, bawling. I emphasized that above all --sexiness- was my hair goal. He took away all my appeal with this haircut. It was so bad that I immediately went the next day and got a $300 human hair weave. Thank god sew-in weaves exist or I would not have left the house for a year. more

Creative Cuts in a Welcoming Environment 10/13/2008

Upon entering Bodhi I was greeted by the friendly receptionist. The salon was warm with cordial conversation. Jean-Marc took time to ask me about what I did and my hair needs. Using my lifestyle description and my job as cues, he gave me a truly creative but timeless cut that fit my personality. He kept my hair to a manageble length by really gave it a unique, flirty and modern style. The cut I received from Jean-Marc fully brightened up my appearance. He was friendly and gave great advice on thickening my hair. I'll be back! Thanks Bodhi Salon! Pros: Fair Prices, Stylists with Vision more

Best Salon Ever 9/28/2008

I went to the Bodhi Salon about 4 years ago when I first moved to Bay Ridge. They were excellent; very professional, respectful and fashionable. I moved and started going to a different salon, but did not get nearly the fabulous service that I came to expect so I went back to Bodhi. Even though I'm there about 4 times a year, they still remember me and my past haircuts. It's always a comfortable experience and I feel at-home there. When I ask for a cut, Jean-Marc will style it to fit my face. Another great thing - when Jean-Marc is cutting my hair, he's very good at feeling my vibe - if I'm tired and don't want to converse, he doesn't push it. He also teaches me how to work with my hair (because I'm very low key). I love their style and I am always, ALWAYS excited with what I come out with. more

I like this salon 9/24/2008

I like this salon! There was a lot of drama the day I was there, which kept me more than entertained! My cut was good, but not good enough to make me neeeed to go back. I didn't really bond with my stylist either. But that's okay, I'm glad to know it's there if I can't get in with my current stylist. more

Best salon I've ever been to. 9/24/2008

I first started going to Bodhi about a year ago after finding them on CitySearch, and even though I no longer live in Brooklyn and have since moved to Manhattan, I still trek all the way to Bay Ridge for them! The best thing about Bodhi is that I never feel rushed being there. Jean-Marc and Adeline totally take their time with me and are always really responsive, and respectful, of what I want done. I get my hair cut and colored by them, and I am NEVER disappointed. They are so casual - I always feel comfortable there - and yet they are consummately professional and are true experts in their respective crafts. Jean-Marc is like a mind-reader; sometimes he knows what I want more than I do! Adeline is truly an artist, and always makes my color look beautiful, yet different, each time I visit. Their rates are totally reasonable and a great value for the services they provide. I have nothing but good things to say about Bodhi, they truly feel like a family here and I recommend them to everyone I know! more

Respectful, polite and talented, too! 9/23/2008

My friend recommended Bodhi, but before I committed to an appointment, I had to make sure that they would use cruelty-free products (products not tested on animals). They were respectful and accomodating of my needs in this regard, and so I booked. To my delight I was greeted by a lovely dog named Enzo, who is exceptionally well behaved. Enzo's hair looked better than mine when I arrived, but Jean-Marc and Adeline were polite, listened attentively to my preferences, and recommended a course of action that would get my hair back in shape from the dried out, multi-colored mess that it was. There wasn't any "hard sell" for treatments or products. I have to mention the hair washing chair - it was unique in that most make your neck hurt, but the one Bodhi has reclines so that there isn't any neck strain. The team is also much gentler with my hair than I was used to - most stylists don't pay attention when ripping the comb through my hair, pulling on my scalp and breaking the already fragile strands. After the treamtents I looked great. And here I am 2 weeks later and my hair still looks great and styles easily. In response to their cancellation policy, the complainer in the previous review should know that this is pretty standard protocol with any quality spa or hair professional since common courtesy is no longer in style... My experience at Bodhi was great and I look so much better now. Thank you Adeline and Jean-Marc! Pros: cruelty free, high quality products; polite and talented staff Cons: none more
