When you are hungry in Forest Park, you go here. 5/15/2006

And its not bad. Of course, we went during lunch hour on a Friday and it was packed. Yes, in April. We had a 45 minute wait for outside or 35 for inside. We chose inside, and it was neat. Like eating in someone's large antique kitchen. We were definetely "young" for the crowd that was there. Hey, they have comfy rockers to wait in, if that says anything! The food was okay. My companion got a soup/sandwich combo and loved every bit of it. I got the veggie black bean burger, which was homemade. I didn't love the texture of the mushed black beans, but A+++ for offering a veggie alternative! The pizza looked yummy as well. We ate for $20 which was reasonable especially with all the service we received. Then again, maybe they were scared we were going to steal the silverware! more

Great location! 11/18/2005

The boathouse is located right in the heart of forest park. We spent the day here last summer while they hosted the Paddle with your Pooch event. It was one of the best times I've had since I've been in St. Louis. The staff was great and the atmosphere was wonderful. The location couldn't be better, as it's right on the water, where you can ride the paddle boats or canoes along the seemingly neverending canals that make their way through the park. Such fun! I'd highly reccomend checking it out. more

Neat place but food and service are lacking 8/19/2005

This is a neat place to go, especially if it's a nice day and you can eat outside. However, enjoy the scenery because the food really is lacking, and the service isn't that great either. Having said that, after you eat, rent a paddleboat and go out on the lake for awhile. Rentals are right next to the restaurant. Overall this is worth going to at least once, or more if all you are going to do is drink! I'm sure the drinks are probably better than the food. more

Paradise on the water 7/7/2005

The Boathouse in Forest Park was a wonderful discovery to make one day for me. We saw people peddling away on the paddle boats and decided to have a go at it, my favorite mode of transportation on the water (i get motion-sick) and a great new one to share with my husband. let me tell you all that paddling is a lot of work on a cool summer day, so much, we were starving when we got off. just as we were figuring out what to do for early dinner, we see the Boathouse Restaurant. I havent actually eaten a full meal there, so I dont know about the food. However, there, for me, it was all about the ambiance. How absolutely breathtaking it was to sit there on Sat night, watch the sunset, sip such chilled wine, with bread dipped in olive oil and relax to the wonderful beat of Latino music. They book great bands, piano players and singers almost every time I get down there. And to watch the paddlers and canoers on this small lake, just a paradise on the water. :) they also have heat lamps for the cool nights, so come out here any time. and in the winter, there's a fireplace inside. and with all this, for brunch, they're pretty friendly to the tots. more
