Best

During a recent visit to BOA on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, we indulged in their 5 - 7 PM weekday...

Worst

Food was so overrated. I will give them the kudos for decor, ambiance and service. Our waiter was great and the bus-boy couldn't top feeding us bread. But we ordered 2 glasses of ...

Boa Boo-Ya! 7/16/2006

I went here on a recent Thursday night and I came way impressed. It was some of the best service I've ever gotten in L.A., especially on Sunset. Courteous and attentive. Steaks and sides were great. Salad selections were okay. Atmosphere was fun and funky. It can't get a little loud so don't come here if you are looking for a quiet dinner. I would recommend this place for a fun night out like a birthday dinner. Pros: funky, fun, great service Cons: loud, long walk to bathroom more

Impressive food and service 6/28/2006

In town from NY, went to BOA on Sunset. It was a great experience from the friendly service, to the great décor and hip crowd. Most important the steak was perfect. First class all the way. Keep it up. A must try. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

Decent food; nice decor.. 6/1/2006

I had heard of Boa for a while and finally got to try it a few weeks ago. I was hoping the 40 day aged steak was going to be one of the best steaks I've had. It wasn't even close... not bad... just not great. Ambiance is nice... trendy place that is worth going Pros: Ambiance, Service Cons: Overpriced more

over rated!! 5/3/2006

all I can say is over rated It's a steak place and they over cooked my steak!! 'nuff said! more

Hostesses and wait staff were awful!!!! 3/29/2006

My girlfriend and I waiting over 30 minutes for a table after having a reservation. Not a huge deal; however, the hostesses were painfully rude even for LA. The food is not good enough for the staff to have such an attitude. I would recommend Lincoln or Morton's - a lot better food and managers who hire decent staff. Pros: location Cons: hostesses, wait staff, food more

Now also on Ocean Blvd in Santa Monica... 2/17/2006

Nice view of the ocean from the balcony tables on a sunny day in Santa Monica. Steaks are recommended, very well seasoned with rock salt and spices, french fries a little soggy, pasta special nothing special, service friendly but slow, which caused the food and mochas to be a little cold when arriving at the table. Pros: lunch steak special, balcony view of sea, ceasar salad Cons: pricey, food took a while, service slow more

What do you expect from a sunset eatery 2/14/2006

Overall BOA is a typical sunset restaurant. Steak prices were average compared to other prime steakhouses. I went there for valentine's day and expected a little nicer ambiance and feel for what they portray on their website. The seating was very small and cramped. I had to move the table over a little bit in order for my Girlfriend to squeeze through without knocking over other peoples drink glasses. If you plan on going I recomend the Bone in Rib Eye $36, very tender and juicy, and the Crab Cake for an appitizer. If your looking for a cool stylish hollywood restaurant this isn't the place. But if you like to dine out at these sunset restaurants this place would suffice to satisfy a steak craving. Pros: service, steaks, appitizers Cons: seating, ambiance more

Extremely Cramped Slightly Overpriced 2/11/2006

If you don't mind sitting elbow to elbow with loud and possibly obnoxious suburbanites and being nose to I-won't-mention-what while they get up to use the restroom, then maybe you won't mind the bland and buttery escargot, a standard bread roll, and uneventful vegetables ala carte to get to a quite good filet mignon. What Boa lacks in originality and reasonable prices (and I'll pay anything for a great meal, but hate paying everything for a poor one) it makes up in exquisite service and a wonderful Port selection. Try lunch and a drink, and don't waste your time on dinner during weekends, nothing pretty to see. Pros: service, wine selection, steak Cons: no privacy, bland food, boring clientele more

Worst Steak Ever!!!!!!!!! 1/15/2006

I find it hard to believe all these positive reviews I have read about Boa here. I am from NY, so I know steaks. Went there Sat night with 3 friends. Had the signature NY strip. Ordered Medium and it came out looking like a Hockey Puck. My other 3 friends ordered their steaks Medium Rare and they came out with no juice. The steak also tasted horrible. They bring you dipping sauces. A good steak does not need dipping sauces. One of the sauces I can tell you was A1. Very classy!!!!! The sides were very small. When I order a side they should feed 2-3 people not 1. I should have known something was up when I saw the prices. Not very high compared to a steak house like Mastros. Which by the way is the place to go if you want the best steak in LA. Pros: Location, Decor Cons: Steak more

wonderful steak and service 12/14/2005

i took my bf to BOA to celebrate his bday. i had made reservations and we were seated within 5 minutes of arriving. the service was WONDERFUL, the hostess was courteous and our server was very attentive and checked back regularly to see how we were doing. the food was absolutely delicious. he had the new your steak and i had the filet mignon. both were cooked medium rare just as we had ordered it. the steak literally melt in your mouth. we ordered both steaks without any rubs and sauces and it was DELICIOUS! it was a little pricey but definitely worth it. i spent about $200 for lots of food. i ordered an appetizer (giant prawn shrimp), new york steak, filet mignon, a dessert, a side, and 2 glasses of wine. great value for the wonderful food and service!! Pros: great food, service Cons: crowded, a little loud more

consistently great food and service 9/22/2005

i've been to 15 restaurants in los angeles that specialize in steak, and boa consistently has the best steak and, equally important, the best service. great intimate, new york-style atmosphere, too. this place is a gem. more

disgusted father's day dinner 6/19/2005

the service was awful. our reservation was at 2 p.m. We did not get served untill 3:30 pm. The orders did not come right. Showed us a wine list then they don't have the wine ww chose. Valet parking is very expensive. more

Great food and service. 4/25/2005

Easily, the best steak I've ever had: aged 40 years and a bargain at $39. My husband's filet mignon melted in the mouth. Also impressive: Oysters Rockefeller and Caeser salad. The service was perfect. The atmosphere was upscale and hip but not at all pretentious. A great evening! (Valet parking is expensive. Maybe they validate but it was never clear to us. Ask the questions we didn't ask.) Pros: Outstanding food.., Steaks, service., Cozy, upscale. more

Modern Steakhouse 3/14/2005

Came here for a birthday and I was impressed. I had heard of this place for a while and it lived up to expectations. Very cool menu where you can basically build your own steak - choosing the rub and the sauce. Very modern decor, a little loud inside, so not too romantic for a date. Very beautiful people inside. more

Great Steak 1/25/2005

We went on Sunday, Jan 23rd. It was wine & champagne night, so each bottle was half off. I had the NY Strip which was delicious & she had the salmon with maine lobster. The salmon was a little salty. However, the lobster was good. We had sauteed spinach which was very good also. Service was excellent. Music & crowd was a little loud for a date, but will come again! $180 for two with tip. more

impeccable service, practically perfect 10/3/2004

This is a GREAT place to have a steak! The variety of rubs and sauces is excellent, and the quality of the meats and fish is incredible. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu, he made great recommendations and was very helpful. The tables were slightly cramped and the music could be a bit quieter, but minor detractions from an otherwise outstanding dinner. Pros: great steak, excellent service, knowledgeable staff more

great steaks and sides 9/20/2004

Located in the thick of things on the Sunset Strip, Balboa was a tad smaller and cramped than I had expected. The service was wonderful and our waiter was charmingly quick. However, this is a steak house, so for people that aren't particularly big fans of meat or meaty fishes, this probably wouldn't be at the top of your list. My friend raved about his steak and our sides were great (made for sharing). The bill can be expensive depending on what you order, but it's not surprising for a Sunset Strip establishment. It's better for meals with friends or co-workers than a romantic date. Pros: meat dishes, friendly staff, location Cons: , noisy more

Go for the steak 9/9/2004

Balboa definetly can cook a good steak. My first trip there, the steak wasnt even close to how I asked for it, but last weekend they nailed it. Great flavor! The appetizers were good, but uninspired, save for the blue cheese tart. I liked it, but everyone at the table was overwhelmed by the strong tastes. Service, however, must improve. Our server barely had time to take our order. At our table for 4, we could barely hold a conversation over the music and noise. But, great steaks.... Pros: steaks, location Cons: , service more

DA BEST! 6/15/2004

There is no place under the sun that can do a New York Strip steak like Balboa. Not a meat eater? Fine. Awesome oysters, brilliant fish & lobster and a special table-made Caesar Salad. Bring a TON of cash. This place ain't cheap, but it's worth EVERY penny. Pros: Food, Service, Good lookin' crowd Cons: , Hostess is rude more

Sometimes small packages are better 5/6/2004

Attentive wait staff in L.A. are a find! I wish Kitana across the street had as mindful help as Balboa. In fact if you could order from there, (they're the same owners) it would be perfect. I recommend sitting outside where one can take in the magnificent view over the hotel's pool and the city beyond. The food is very good. The steaks are tasty, juicy, well prepared and succulent. The sides are excellent. Especially the creamed spinach and the fries. The wine list is excellent and on Sundays it's half price. The only thing I'd wish for is a bit more imagination in the menu. It's a little plain. Having said that, if you're in the mood for a great steak & wine, it's hard to think of a better place to go. This beats Jar, Ruth's Chris, Mastro's and in some areas, even Musso's. Ok, enough gushing. Pros: Great steaks, Outside Seating, Wine Cons: , Small more
