For Labor Day my wife and I decided we would like to treat ourselves to a meal out. My wife is somewhat hard to please when it comes to dinning out and so we spent at least 2 hours looking at restaurants and ratings for restaurants in the area. We wanted somewhere that I could have Chicken Fried Steak and where she could have something that looked good to her. After a great deal of searching, we decided on the Blue Plate Diner. We drove all the way across town to reach our destination. When we arrived the place was packed, but there was still one small table available for immediate seating. We were given a menu, but my wife soon discovered that the Blue Plate Fish-n Chips she had seen on the online menu, was not on the menu we were looking at in the restaurant. She ended up ordering the 7 dollar Onion Rings and I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with Eggs over easy. Keep in mind the reason we chose the Diner is because they offered Chicken Fried Steak. When the waiter brought my order to the table he set in front of me Bacon, Eggs (one over easy and one up), Potatoes and Toast. Not wanting to make a scene, or wait for a new order, I ate what was given me. My food alright but not in line with the ratings we had seen online. The Onion Rings were all together another story. They were cold, they tasted greasy and were way not worth the 7 dollars they cost. My overall impression... Why was this place rated 4 1/2 stars online? more

I went here with my boyfriend because we saw that they had won best breakfast in City Weekly for the past decade and wanted to try something new. \r \r They are the type of place that has 4 different employees taking your order, refilling your drink, bringing your food, etc. Usually, I don't mind that kind of atmosphere at all, but the staff here just really wasn't very welcoming. Not rude, just didn't say a word other than to ask what we wanted to order. The food was good, but not great. My boyfriend's potatoes came with chopped onions and peppers but mine did not. His over medium eggs were under cooked, which happens a lot of places. \r \r Would I go back? Sure. Was it the best breakfast in town? Not in my experience. more

So delicious. You may have to wait a bit if you go on a Saturday or Sunday morning because they are THAT GOOD. Also, quite loud sometimes. Get the benedict omelette, you won't be disappointed. Very consistent customer service, always refilling coffee, etc. Kid-friendly too. One of my fav places for brunch. more

Avoid This Hipster Hangout 3/28/2011

As a lot of others have said when you drive by it's fairly busy, so you think it has to be a decent place. Wrong. The entire place is filled with lame ass hipsters. So many skinny jeans, justin bieber haircuts and elitist attitudes it's unreal. Everyone acts snobby (as hipsters tend to do) and they barely pay attention to you if you don't look exactly like everyone else there. After we finally got seated in some terrible metal chairs, and had to read a bunch of annoying ""BICYCLES ARE ALLOWED ONE FULL LANE TOO!"" shirts on waiters, our waitress came over, took our order and said ""oh you're sitting in the drip. haha"" and then i realize the roof is leaking EVERYWHERE. I'm watching water fall through this disgusting roof into peoples food and no one is noticing, and its just soaking my jacket. And it's a joke to them. ""lol, better scoot over a foot so you don't continue to get wet!"" How about ""lol fix your roof, bitch."" Food was average, everyone was annoying and snobby. Suck it, Blue Plate Diner. more

Vegan Friendly with Great Service and Atmosphere! 10/16/2010

Being a vegan in Salt Lake City can be tough, so I love this place! Great food and awesome service. The server even sat down and pointed out some of the vegan options on the menu! I really enjoy the cozy atmosphere, too. It's very laid back and I feel relaxed there, Love, love, love it! more

MY FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT IN SLC! 8/26/2010

Amazing food and service! Everyone who works there is so interesting and unique. The food is simply amazing, which is a breath of fresh air for me since i am a vegetarian. Cute atmosphere, inexpensive prices, big portions, and super good food. Def eat here if you live or are visiting SLC. more

Amazing! Give this diner a try. 6/21/2009

Astounding food. We've been for Breakfast and Lunch and both are amazing. Staff sports numerous tatoos and body piercings but all are very friendly and prompt. I'm tempted to tell everyone the food and service is poor so there will less of a line to wait through, but the honest truth is this is a great find. Pros: Best food in town, odd ambient Cons: Very crowded, plan to wait in line more

wonderful place 4/25/2009

My experience at this restaurant has always been great. Everyone there seems to be working hard and is friendly. The food is great and there is a lot of variety to choose from. I like that the menu is long and there are many vegetarian options. Velvet Elvis doesn't hurt either! Pros: amazing food, fun atmosphere more

Worst diner experience ever! 4/20/2009

Two people in our group complained about the quality of food to our waitress. As we were getting ready to leave the hostess suddenly came over demanding, ?What was so horrible?? When we tried to explain she interrupted and began arguing with us. She was shockingly abrasive and rude. I tried showing her my food, but she shook her head and kept cutting me off. I work in customer service so I'm used to deal ing with this type of personality, but not when I'm the customer. Needless to say, we will not be returning to Blue Plate Diner. Bad food is forgivable, but her behavior was not. Cons: Service, Food more

MORE THAN WHAT IS ADVERTISED 3/29/2009

DIRTY, VERY AVERAGE FOOD AT BEST, IF YOU AREN'T PART OF THE IN CROWD - YOU ARE BARELY TOLERATED BY THE HIRED HELP. ONCE A PHILOSPHY - TWICE A PERVERT. I WON'T BE RETURNING TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT BEFORE I DIE. Pros: PROS - CAN'T THINK OF ANY Cons: CROWN BURGERS PUT OUT A BETTER BURGER more

My daughter was sereved a insect in her cocoa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 1/15/2009

I used to love going to this place but tjhe last time we went in December My eleven year old daughter ordered a cuop of cocoa. After she had eaten the mound of whipped cream she began sipping it . All of a sudden I heard a shriek come out of her. she jumped to her feet in horror and pointed to her drink. I took the cup and looked inside. To my utter surprise and disgust there was a large insect floating in it. I took the cup and showed the guy at the counter. He just said ""sorry"" and walked to the back of the store. Long story short, I'll never go back there again. Sorry Blue Plate. more

I was a little disapointed but overall it was pretty good. 8/14/2008

Parking is awful because there is none. The food was above average. Service and price were pretty good. Great place to watch people or have a casual meal with friends. I'll be back. Pros: Good food, Nice variety Cons: No Parking more

Avoid this place 7/8/2008

We recently spent 2 weeks in SLC. Driving by it looked crowded - good sign, so we checked it out. My boyfriend ordered 3 eggs, sunny-side up and toast. I ordered an omelette. His eggs were pure rubber. The seats at the tables were horribly uncomfortable metal. And our small breakfast for 2 totaled just shy of $20. Definitely not worth the price. Avoid this place - don't be fooled by the crowds eating there. Cons: Poor food, expensive, uncomfortable seating more
