Best

If you have never been to Clue Note you are missing out on some awesome jazz. We saw BB King jamming with Bobby McPherin, what a great night, totally drunk on a Saturday. blue Not...

Worst

We went to an 8pm show and ate dinner with guests from out of town. The music was great - that's really what we went for - but the rest of the experience was almost an embarrassme...

Blue Note 3/22/2006

Good jazz place but way too crowded and uncomfortable. Blue Note manages to get pretty famous artists. Must make reservation if you go on the weekends for the first two shows. Food is expensive and in my opinion subpar. I would pick other jazz bars over this one (for example Dizzy's). But if you have never been yet, it is worth at least one visit because it is so famous! more

great jazz, good times 8/13/2005

If you're looking for a great place to take a date and of course for excellent jazz, then this is the place. They are always crowded on the weekends, and especially when they invite famous jazz players to come. So I'd recommend getting your tickets in advance and showing up a bit earlier so that you can get a good seat. The food is mediocre, but the blue note isn't known for their food, but more of the ambience. I wish the place was a bit bigger, but the acoustics would probably be bad for those in the rear. The full bar is great, and there's no smoking which is also excellent. Overall, I'd recommend for singles, but definitely for couples. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
It has only been around since the mid-'80s, but it feels like the Blue Note has been on West 3rd Street forever. Once you get past a lot of trappings--the grand piano awning, the Las Vegas-y interior, steep cover charge, overstuffed gift shop, mediocre meals named after great jazz songs, some clueless tourists and expense-account patrons--the Blue Note is truly a world-class jazz joint.

    The Draw
The club attracts some of the biggest names jazz has ever known, and the abundant staff makes sure that when the music begins, the chatter--often in a dozen languages--comes to a dead silence. The booking policy is eclectic and often outstanding--Oscar Peterson didn't play nightclubs until the Blue Note threw piles of cash at him, and Cecil Taylor and Elvin Jones hadn't played together at all before a landmark series of recent late-night duets.
