Best

After having lived in the Middle East for 5 years, I have looked for a restaurant that matched what I was used to eating over there. I found it here at the Blue Tangerine. My wi...

Worst

We selected Blue Tangerine to be our caterer for an event of about 20 people. They showed up late, and then spent another half hour prepping the food before it could be served. ...

Barely AVERAGE! 7/10/2007

We love food from the Med/Mid East and consider ourselves knowledgeable after having traveled to several countries which represent this type of cuisine . Portland is fortunate to have many, such as Hoda's, Al Amir, Riyadh's, Abou Karim, Abu Rasheed , etc, etc... Which are all pleasant and good value. The skinny: Blue Tangerine has a nice atmosphere. But, the cafeteria style is confusing and clumbsy. The food was only mediocre. We ordered the steak and chicken Kabobs with rice, side of pita with hummus and tzetziki. The tzetziki was the saving grace of the meal, had it not been available we would have left the very dry, barely warm rice and tasteless beef/chicken. The hummus was decent, but not worth the price. Overall, the food was over priced when compared to other similar restaurants in PDX area. For example, for $15 you get 3oz of blah tasting steak kabob and 2/3cup of luke warm, dry rice. No vegetables or salad included, which should be at this price! The mark up on the food is tremendous, which would explain the 8 servers and 5-6 customers. We just can't think of any reason to go back to this place to give it another try, which is sad because it has such promise. This area needs a Med Restaurant. It's in a suburb mall, where they must feel compelled to hike up the prices and offer sub par food to teens that frequent the mall. We will go elsewhere for really good food at reasonable prices. Pros: Tzetziki, decor, area of town Cons: food, partial cafeteria style doesn't work, over priced for this type of cuisine more

Suberb food - service / layout needs work 7/1/2007

Amazing food - baba ghanoush, strombolis (veggies in puff pastry), kebobs - all perfectly cooked in the wood fired oven. Best MIddleEastern food in Portland in this price range. So far I avoid only the hummus (dull) and the spanikopita (not enough filling). This is all marred by a confusing setup (order food cafeteria style, then have wait staff for drinks) and growing pains. Last time I was there they were out of greek salad?!? Clearly run by someone who cares about food and knows how to cook, but my bet says it's their first restaurant. Here's hoping they work out the kinks because I am dreaming about the kubideh (ground beek sausage) with tzatziki..... Pros: Delicious food; great prices Cons: Service confusion more

Confusing and conflicting service, set up and menu 5/27/2007

The restaurant colors and name are the only worthwhile reason to walk by - they have not idea what they are doing and it shows as it appears everyone working there is long lost relatives. Its hard to figure out if you are about to have a fine dining experience or cafeteria style not to mention the service is horrible - Hopefully in a couple of years they will have it all figured out. Waste of time and money. Pros: name is appealing Cons: set up like a deli/cafeteria - more

Best food, best service, best concept 5/18/2007

This place is divine, I mean divine. I have not had food this good since I was in Greece or Israel. There is a variety to please everyone in my family. The desserts are to die for. It is quick but relaxing enough to want to stay for hours. The serving staff is great. We were very pleased recommend Blue Tangerine to all our friends. I love the stake kebob. Pros: food, service, ambionce, style - quick but yet suffisticated more

confusing 5/3/2007

Been to Blue Tangerine twice. The hummus is very good, pita bread nice and soft. The falafel was over cooked, had a hard time cutting it. Also, what's with the pickle in the sandwich? Never had that before. Ok, here's the main problem. It is very confusing how to order, who to order from, and where to sit. If they just seat you and let you order from the menu, it would be fine. Also, the employees are way too loud talking amongst each other and the owner does'nt need to hover over the guests. It is distracting and not relaxing. Other than that, I will probably go back, do to the lack of restaurants in Tigard. Pros: good hummus Cons: confusing, loud more

Best Mediterranean in town! 4/30/2007

I am Middle Eastern and it was a joke between my family that if we wanted to eat out at a good Mediterranean restaurant we'd have to go back to the Middle East...or to California. I am always eager to try new Mediterranean restaurants in Portland in hopes of finding one that tastes authentic, and I have struck gold with the Blue Tangerine! The rice, the kabobs...all delicious. I had a hummus plate for an appetizer and it was so fresh and tasty. The service was great, the atmosphere charming...I give this restaurant two thumbs up! more

Great Date Night 4/29/2007

I just took a date here. It was perfect. Totally comfortable atmosphere, and really good food. I definitely recommend the kabobs. more

Chicken Kabob Extraordinary! 4/29/2007

I've never reviewed a restaurant before, but since Blue Tangerine is new, I thought writing about my experience would help it succeed because I definitely want to eat there again! My mom and I went for an early dinner after a shopping excursion at Bridgeport. The atmosphere was totally hip, the servers were personable and on top of it, and the food was amazing. I had the chicken kabob, and it was the best kabob I'd ever had. Can't wait to go back! more
