The food can be good, depending on who's in the kitchen. The cinnamon buns are the best, by far. Avoid french toast unless you like is undercooked. The biscuits and jam are great....

Expensive Coffee: My fiancee and I had seen Blue Moon on the DDD show and thought we would give them a try this morning. We knew the place was small and we would be waiting due to previous reviews. We do not mind waiting for a good thing. When we were seated, we were told there were no more menus and given a laminated modified menu (I am assuming). I know there is a lot of talk about the french toast, hash browns, etc. but we thought we would try other things on the menu. I ordered the oatmeal/brown sugar pancakes and my fiance ordered the sausage gravy biscuits. Coffee was good, although spotty refills. The pancakes were good size, but as I started putting butter on it I saw raw oatmeal and clumps of brown sugar, some of it burned. When I started cutting into the pancakes, I almost asked for a steak knife as they were tough. The cakes tasted heavy and the dry oatmeal/burnt sugar was not helping the flavor. Now I know why they have the syrup in large coffee urns, it is not because the syrup is warmed (it was not) but you would need a gallon of it to try and make the cakes moist. After two bites I was done and pushed my plate aside. The sausage gravy did not have much sausage and the gravy was bland. The biscuit was large, doughy and sweet. My fiancee who truly loves this dish also set it his aside. The server did not even ask if there was an issue when we asked for the check. He just removed our plates and we paid over $20 for our coffee. We ended up somewhere else for breakfast. Needless to say, we will not be going back. more

It's a shame that you can live in a neighborhood and support a restaurant for so many years and mistakenly leave your bag for minutes and the staff steal from you before you can blink your eyes.\r I've been going to BIue Moon for the last five years, as I live five blocks away, and have always known the staff and trusted the people around me. Last night, after a very long night of bartending and making a large sum of money, I went into Blue Moon after my bartending shift at 4 am. Having it be the St Patricks Day weekend, and a long shift, and being tired, I walked out of the restaurant without my bag. Within minutes of leaving, I realized I left it and turned back to get it. With very few people in the building when I left, I was confident that my bag would still be there...it was, but within those maybe 8 minutes, the staff had taken my bag behind the counter and stolen the hundreds of dollars I had made on a Saturday night behind the bar... it's horrible to think that a neighborhood place that you frequent often would have a staff that is so dishonest, but wow! Hundreds of dollars...they have lost a super loyal customer. And, upon returning, the girl threatened to hit me for accusing her of any wrong doing...luckily, one of my security guys was with me...the police arrive, but what can they do...I'm out of luck. Nice.\r more

One of the best breakfast places I have been in my whole life... parking can be tough in the neighborhood and the garages are over priced... it is totally worth the hassle though more

Blue Moon Cafe 2/13/2011

The captain crunch french toast was good, but the bacon was burnt. Also the service was horrible. My waistress was rude and kancerous. my mother ordered pancakes 1st, but then she changed her order and ordered the hash brown meal. The waitr...ess still brought the pancakes and the hash brown meal. My mom told the waitress she didnt order the pancakes and the waitress sd yes she did. So my mom sd ok. My mother bite took a small, tiny slice of the pancake and told the waitress she didnt like them becuz they were very tough. the waitress made a remake and sd Sorry u don't like my pancakes very1 else does. Then my daddy ordered the pancakes with bacon. which was suppose to be $7.95, but becuz my daddy sd i want the pancakes with a side of bacon he was charged $5.95 for the pancakes and 3.95 for the bacon which was burnt also, the for the pancakes and side of bacon came to $9.90. The apple juice was $4.00 for a cup, $4.00 for a cup of milk and $2.00 for a can soda which we didnt get until after we were just about finish eating. When the bill came it was $70.00. And i asked the waitress why the pancakes that my mom sd she didnt want where still on my bill when she sent them back. She ate a tiny slice and sent it back. The waitress told me that since she touched them that her product was destroyed and we would get charged for it..No refunds. She sd once u order it and touch it you have to pay for it. I never had that waitress before but she was border line prejudice to me. But needless to say she was rude and inpatient. Our wait time to get a table was 2 hours. Like I sd the french toast was good but the service was horrible. Our waitress had black hair with a thunder bolt tattoo on her neck under her ear. blue moon is a very small place. seating is very limited, also it was colder in the place than it was outside. The cinnamon roll is good also. more

Blue Moon Cafe 12/26/2010

I went there for my 25th birthday breakfast (December 26th). I saw the place on ""Diners, Driver-Ins and Dives"" with Guy Fieri and ever since then I was like ""we have to go!"" \r \r We got there early, since it was the day after Christmas it was not that crowded. Given the fact that I heard it can get quite busy, I was pleasantly surprised to just walk in and get a table. \r \r Immediately, we had in front of us fresh coffee. Our server's name was Gina and she provided exceptional service. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I can tell she does her job well. She made us feel welcomed like we were regulars who come in there all the time. Truly, it felt like we were at home. \r \r The food was something else. I have never in my life ever had Red Velvet Pancakes. Now, I love Red Velvet Cake (coincidentally that is normally my birthday cake every year). They were by far the best pancakes I ever had. I'm not having Red Velvet Cake this year because I wanted to make something else, so this took the place and it was awesome. The only disappointing thing was that I couldn't finish them (but I wanted to). My mother and I both had omelettes which were exceptional. It was flavorful and they were loaded with all kinds of good stuff. \r \r For all the places Guy picked, he picked the right one to profile. Everything was phenomenal and I will be back to visit again! Thanks for making my birthday a memorable one! more

Terrible Service! 12/12/2010

A friend of mine was very excited to visit this restaurant after seeing it on Diner, Drive-In, and Dives. After our experience today, we will never go back. I was thoroughly disgusted with the service in this restaurant. When our party of 4 arrived, a server (the one with the tattoos, from reading the reviews she seems pretty popular) hollers out ""Guys you gotta put your name on the list in the back""... Ok, not very welcoming. ""The List"" is a spiral notebook with stains all over it... Ok, not very sanitary. To make the dining experience short... Food is ""made to order"" which means it takes a long time. I guess you are just supposed to deal with that... I ordered the 3 cheese omelett, which made me sick later. I guess that's my bad luck.... It seems like the only good thing to order here is the French Toast with Capn Crunch. Too bad I will never go back to taste it because.... We left at about 2:45 and the restaurant closes at 3. When I got home I realized that I left my purse. I called at about 3:10, on my way back to the restaurant, and no one answered. I kept calling back until someone answered (I later found out that it was Gina). I told her I left my purse and I was about 10 minutes away to pick it up. She said they have it, but they are walking out of the door. I said how can I get my purse back, and she said I can pick it up when they open at 7 am. Huh? I told her that my house keys are in there. She said ""people work second jobs, and they need to leave."" I said, ""Am I supposed to be homeless for a night?"" She speaks with a young man in the background, who says he will be there for about 15 minutes. She tells me to bang on the door when I got there, and hung up the phone. And the young man, who so graciously stayed behind to mop the floor, gave me my purse. I don't usually write reviews, but as a person who works in customer service (and works 2 jobs) I believe that this behavior is totally unacceptable. Maybe some people think that a harsh, I-don't-care attitude is quirky, but I think that it has no place in the service industry. The French Toast may be good, but I refuse to pay for it with a side of stank attitude. By the way, I will be calling back to speak with the manager when they open at 7 am. more

Best Breakfast in Charm City!!!!! 11/29/2010

I love the food, the quirkiness and most of all the wait staff! I love the young lady with the tattoos she makes you feel right at home no matter what and is obviously the true backbone of the establishment. The coffee is hot and freely poured...the SPECIAL hash brown, tomato and crab dish is TO DIE FOR! The Cap'n Crunch is an original dish that you won't get anywhere else. I could eat there everyday! The local celebrities from the Food Network are a real treat! Keeo your group small and you will have NO problem getting a table in a reasonable amount of time. Large groups...BE Patient! Its a small place and you can always put your name on the list and wander around Fells Point one of the cutest neighborhoods in Baltimore! I recommend it to all of my visiting business associates and family. more

Great Crab 11/5/2010

From Maine we travel back to our home town of Baltimore about twice a year and have made the Blue Moon Cafe a must visit every time. The last time was Memorial Day 2010 weekend and I chose a crab meat tomato dish that was one of the best things I ever ate. The dish had a base of Blue Moon's crispy hash browns then a mixture of a few tomato chunks and lots of lump crab meat top with two fried eggs and covered in hollandaise sauce with a dusting of crab seasoning. I am not sure if this dish is on the menu due to the server recommending it I never open the menu. There was a little wait to get a table but we never felt rushed once we were seated. Now that we have been back in Maine I keep thinking of trying to replicate the dish in my own kitchen but I am hesitant for I don't want to taint my memories of that awesome dish. * Pros: Delicious more

Blue Moon is Out of This World 9/25/2010

I've lived in Baltimore for three years and have stumbled across some gems. Blue Moon small and teaming with local charm. Whoever put Cap'n Crunch and French Toast together is a genius. The Crab Benedict is delish with nice chunks of sweet crab meat. Don't let the size of their cinnamon rolls fool you. They are just the right amount of sweet and not dense or doughy. My NY guest and I were greeted with smiles and witty banter. This place is definitely worth the wait. Tip: If you're eager to try the famous french toast, get a short stack and share with a friend so that you can entertain your mouth with other treats on the menu. more

Bestest Brefast Spot 9/23/2010

Have lived in Baltimore for a few years now and have stumbled in and out of restaurants for breakfast on many occasions. Blue moon is by far one of the most popular places to eat, and has had me coming back on numerous occasions. Would highly recommend the cinnamon rolls & biscuits to start! Have always left full and happy. Service is awesome- the one waitress known by her tattoos has provided great service every time and runs the entire dining room without skipping a beat. Highly recommend this cafe to anyone & would disregarding the review per hockeyfan4lyfe....this acerbic critic seems unhappy with the blue moon although ""frequents the blue moon regularly"".....food/service must be great enough to keep one coming back! more

Mixed Thoughts. 8/30/2010

I frequent the blue moon regularly but have mixed thoughts about the place. Here are my concerns: Servers handle money, dirty rags and dishes, and other items, and then touch toast and biscuits without washing their hands. The servers also bring me the wrong food on occasion and then get huffy about it when I ask for what I really ordered. The young people who help the servers with drinks and bringing out food, tend to be rude and often either don't speak english well, or just do not care enough about what they should be doing. The server with the wild things tattoo, often wears skirts so short that when she bends over you get a free show, and often sports a bad attitude towards you and talks on her cell phone or to her friends who have come in to eat. Her boyfriend visits her, and they make out in the dinning room, and are all over each other. I even saw her talking to a guy with dreads and him handing her a ziplock baggie of what i think to be illegal substances. The owner shows up and screams at her staff when customers can here, and often has her dog running wild around the place. The ""fresh squeezed"" orange juice comes out of a jug, and the crab from a can. The floors are filthy, and they use the same cloth to wipe the tables as they use for spills on the floor. The cook who works day shift on Mondays, often comes out to the dinning room to sit down, when there are plenty of people in the cafe who are awaiting their orders. The red haired girl, who I can't figure out her job, all she does is pour waters, often doesn't listen when you ask for more of your drink or if you can speak with your waitress. Sitting at the contertop you can clearly see into the kitchen, which is not very professional at all. You can watch them microwave all the food before it comes to your table. Isn't the food suppose to be fresh? Why do they put it into the microwave? The server with the tattoos, also ignores you once you have gotten your meal, and she stands in the kitchen doorway conversing with the cooks and noticeably making fun of the customers. She has ""codewords"" for different ethnicites, and I've over heard her say ""The ninjas are here, better start making the french toast, that's all they eat!"" However, even with the long waits, where they let people jump the line all the time, the food is always amazing. It's better on the weekends, when I suppose there are different people cooking it? The food always looks much more presentable, and the Capn French Toast comes with significantly more fruit during those times. I've never had a complain about the food. It's the wait staff that is rude and unprofessional. In fact, when you do see the cooks running through the door to the storage food, they always say excuse me and i'm sorry, while the waitresses just bump into you, spill coffee on you and never even so much as give an apologetic look. It's also incredibly hot in there in the summer, and the wait staff and cooks are often drenched in sweat. I realize they cannot control that, but something should be done, because it's unsanitary to be leaking bodily fluids into my meal. I think overall the food is great, and with the exception of a few, the staff is rude and unfriendly. more

Breakfast done right 6/13/2010

So the hubby accompanies me on a business trip to Baltimore and does the tourist thing while I'm at work. Well day 2 he starts bragging about the breakfast spot he found. Captain Crunch French toast and perfect eggs. As a guy who was in the food service industry for 10+ years, it takes a lot to make him gush. He was right on the mark. The French toast is made with bakery fresh bread and pure vanilla. I had a dish which consisted of farm fresh eggs, sun ripened tomatoes. hash browns made with grated seasoned potatoes(not the frozen out of the bag variety) and a ridiculously generous helping of Maryland crab. We waited a bit for the food to come out, but passed the time ogling everyone else's plate and chatting with the manager. You do have to wait for fresh food to be cooked. But man, is it worth it! Pros: Freshly made everything, awesome staff Cons: Long wait for table more

Bacon and eggs 6/9/2010

Tell every out there that is looking for an excellent bacon and eggs this is the place to go Look no futher. The bacon is very good quality and lean. My friend had the veggie scramble and enjoyed her meal it was very filling. The hashbrowns have a nice flavor and are crispy golden brown. The oj is very good and fresh and tasted fresh squeezed . more

Delicious Food 6/4/2010

If you watch the Food Network's Diner's, Dives and Drive-in's, then you may have seen this restaurant on an episode. Featured on the show was Captain Crunch french toast with fresh fruit. NO syrup is needed!!! \r \r The waitress recommended a dish with hashbrowns on bottom, with eggs of choice, cheese, LUMPS of fresh crab meat and hollandaise sauce. It was AMAZING! I opted out of the hollandaise sauce and mine was still delicious. My boyfriend and I shared a short stack of their famous captain crunch french toast and it was ideal. We came hungry for good food and we left VERY satisified. \r \r My boyfriend loved it SO much he went back with a friend 4 days later and ordered new dishes that he was equally thrilled about. \r \r I recommend to everyone! :) Pros: Quaint, cozy spot with character. GREAT food, good service! Cons: Depending on when you go, there can be a long wait. more

Great Fells Point Experience 5/29/2010

Extensive breakfast menu with fresh food and interesting combinations. For a group, get an order of the Captain Crunch FrenchToast and put it in the middle of the table. Hash brown stacks (crab stack is awesome), multiple versions of eggs benedict and mexican varieties are terrific. Juice is fresh and coffee is bold. Great experience with the staff in the cozy confines of the restaurant. Don't wait in line - come by 830am. Great experience and wonderful reflection of Fells Point at the Blue Moon Cafe. We are fans! Pros: Very personal service, unique food ideas. Cons: Cozy, so come early. more
