Highly recommended, very romantic 1/22/2008

I highly recommend Blue Agave. Went there on a Saturday night with my girlfriend during a short wknd visit to SB. The food was ecclectic and excellent and the atmosphere (we sat in the upstairs booths) was even better. We eat out a lot in both NYC and Los Angeles and we'll definitely try to go back to Blue Agave. The one potential negative that particular night was that it was so crowded (and perhaps understaffed) that our waitress was gone for relatively long stints at a time. So try and plan for a relatively long dinner and if you're not in a rush I think you'll be just fine with a slow waitstaff. By the way, we made reservations ahead of time for the upstairs area, I'd recommend doing so as well, it appeared there were lots of walk-ups looking for a table like ours, it's not a very large area upstairs. more

absolutely charming 1/12/2007

usually, when the words ""fancy"" or ""expensive"" or ""creative"" and ""mexican food"" are paired together, a really bad idea results. but blue agave manages to create truly inspired cuisine using traditional mexican ingredients as a starting point. in addition, the restaurant is cozy, quiet, and a wonderful place to invest in a few bottles of wine. Pros: food, ambience, service Cons: it's not cheap, but that's not really a con more

very romantic 11/23/2006

Probably one of the most romantic places in SB. The upstairs has a fireplace and couches and secluded booths (though those are just for the dinner patrons.) Drinks can be pricey, but you're also paying for the atmosphere. more

atmosphere 1/18/2003

this is a hip resturant with a great nightlife and excellent food. it is a bit over priced but smoke some cigars and have a margarita sitting on velvet couches within ur own secluded booth. dress well and funky like the 30+ new york scene. Pros: ecclectic, hip, good drinks Cons: very dim more

amazing vibe, even better food! 10/28/2002

This place is amazing. The bar has a really fun vibe to it, the artwork and location is absolutely amazing and the food is incredible. This place is a perfect place to have a drink before an event...a fantastic place for dinner or just great for nightcap... Make sure to say hi to the owner, who is also the chef, and artist whose work is featured throughout the restaurant as well, he's a great guy! For a date, try to reserve one of the booths upstairs...they are great for an intimate evening. more
