No need to have Japanime Porn when you have the best sushi on the planet! 5/10/2007

My husband and I before we took off back home from our honeymoon decided to check this place out. Had the sushi not been so highly recommended to us we would have walked out because they had all of these cartoon pornos going on for everyone to see! They fish was awesome (best we've ever had) and the service was excellent, but we had to try and tune out nude cartoons in the background. Really weird experience, but otherwise, highly recommended. more

Yummy sushi 6/7/2006

There's nothing more special than going out for sushi. One of the best places to go (in my humble opinion) is Blowfish. The ambiance is a bit to "hip" for my taste, but the fish is so fresh and flavorful. They also have great seaweed salad and a full bar. more

Expensive. Tragically hip. But soooooo worth it if you can afford it. The few times I've eaten here were on other people's dime, otherwise not sure if I'd ever be inspired to go here. I mean, regular sushi is so perfect, so it's kinda crazy to pay all this money to gussy it up. But everything here comes to you like a work of art, fish and veggies bursting out in little sculptures from their rice foundations. The sake martini and the sake lemon drop are perhaps the best tasting cocktails I've ever imbibed. more

blowfish 3/20/2006

great sushi but a bit on the pricey side. it's fun to go to with a great atmosphere for a small group or two. if for two, quite a romantic restaurant. the best though is still the sushi. they offer blowfish sushi when seasonal and although i haven't had the opportunity to try it, people say it's yummy. the monk fish liver is delicious. the drinks are fun and different. more

Cool little space 1/9/2006

What a funky, hip little sushi place. Anime all over, really great music and super cool decor. We got seated super fast on a Friday night and got served right away. Their rainbow roll was extra tasty and the nigiri just melted. My mouth is watering just thinking about it... Must. Go. Back..." more

Chic sushi 11/17/2005

Very fresh fish with a hip atmosphere. This is the cool place to go for sushi - a great venue with lots of attitude. I recommend any of the hand rolls or the dragon roll. This is a great place to meet people but depending on what you're up for, can be noisy for a date. Go early for parking or plan on extra tinme. more

Love this place! 9/13/2005

Great atmosphere! Good food, kinda pricey, but all worth it. Would love to take outta towners here. more

Yummy sushi 8/25/2005

We recently had sushi at Blowfish and had a great dining experience. The yellowtail, the rolls and the tuna were all fresh and yummy. The service was decent, fairly quick, and friendly. The location was also easy to get to and find parking. I went there with friends and I would definitely go back. Fun place, nice ambiance. more

Hip Sushi Dive 8/17/2005

I've always seen those ad for Blowfish Sushi "To Die For" (with the joke to look in the obituaries to find Blowfish), so naturally I had to find out whether the sushi lived up to their claim. While it was pretty tasty sushi, I can't say that I would die for it. The sushi was all around excellent, fresh, well-prepared, great presentation etc. etc. The service was up to par as well. The atmosphere is very trendy, a little too much for my taste, but the sushi distracted me from that. Definitely worth the experience, despite the price. more

Surprisingly Good 7/16/2005

When I stepped into this restaurant, I did not expect much from it because I did not like its exterior. However, I was in for a surprise. The food was very tasty and the service was not bad at all. What I liked most about this place is that the prices were not outrageous, like some other sushi places I’ve been to before. more

Good fish, great scene 9/8/2004

I'm not convinced Blowfish has the absolute best sushi in San Francisco, but for overall dining / people-watching / scene-making experience, I give it a strong thumbs-up. Located in the once-bustling Multimedia Gulch, Blowfish was an early outpost of style in an otherwise quiet / industrial neighborhood. With its aggressively modern design (sleek steel plate benches, plain blond wood tables, Anime videos running on video monitors), stylish waitstaff and of-the-moment (e.g., international electronica) background music, it was (and is) a magnet for young hipsters from Potrero, the Mission and Bernal Heights. As for the fish, Blowfish consistently delivers good quality, in more or less traditional presentations. No sushi nouveau here (e.g., jalapeno slivers, etc.), and no obsessive attention to the latest, most obscure fresh-off-the-boat cuts of fish. But what you get will be fresh, of excellent quality, generously cut and carefully served. In addition to quality fish and high style, Blowfish offers an excellent weekend (Thursday through Saturday) drink & schmooze scene - the cosmopolitans are (hopefully) a thing of the past, but you can count on a strong showing from the young & stylish set, which makes for fun people-watching for those of us no longer in that phase of life. Give it a try and let me know what you think! more
