Finally, after moving to Portland 6 years ago, I can breathe a sigh of relief and, once again, love my hair! I have naturally curly hair and if I don't find an excellent hair stylist it can be unnerving, to say the least. I have tried many salons, curly hair specialists, big name salons, smaller salons, and all the places I discovered in my Portland research. Nothing worked. My hair turned into a big problem. One more search last spring and I found AMBER RAE at Bliss salon on Divisadero St. I told her all my concerns and she colored and cut my hair which was greyish blonde and frizzy (and thin from a big mistake at a well known salon) at this point. When I left the salon after my first visit I felt transformed. My hair was back to it's warm reddish blonde color and the cut was perfection. Beautiful shape that I could blow dry myself.This is a first for me. That was 7 months ago. Since then I have enjoyed my hair more than ever before and I receive compliments ALL the time. Amber Rae is highly skilled ( and that's comparing her to my years of salons in San Francisco and Manhattan.). She is warm and friendly and easy to talk to, and she LISTENS!! She does not push products on her customers ( which seems to be the norm in many salons now). She is fast, efficient, and, as far as I am concerned, a miracle worker. Bliss salon is a joy to go to as it is light and airy with views of lovely trees outside. Almost a garden effect. The staff is warm and thoughtful. The music is enjoyable- not blaring. It is a relaxing place to go to and the parking lot is right outside the front door. Appointments happen on time. The customer is respected. The prices are reasonable. The Bumble and Bumble products have always been my favorite as they help my dry hair become more manageable and healthier looking. I don't even have to think about my hair now. I completely trust Amber Rae and this is a HUGE PLUS in my life! Yes, it's a gift in my life that I am grateful for everyday! more

I went to Bliss this afternoon and had a facial and brow wax with the owner Laura. There is such a difference in my skin it is unbelievable and my brows look amazing. I'll definitely be back to keep up on the brows. After the spa appointment, I had a trim and blow out with Samantha, she was very sweet and did a fabulous job, my hair is smooth with a bit of vintage wave that she created at the ends with her round brush. more

Amber Rae at Bliss is fantastic! I had my hair cut and colored by someone else, I hated it and ended up at bliss and she warmed up the color and texturized my cut so that I actually ended up loving a haircut that originally I was really upset about! I also got a great brow shape with the owner, Laura. I'll be back for sure. more

FIrst i wanna start, this salon is very beautiful, i enjoyed the atmosphere. I have always been nervous about going to a new salon to see a new stylist. It has always been important to find that one stylist i can trust and stick with, so when i needed to branch out to find somewhere new, I came to citysearch to help. All the reviews about Rae were exactyly True, that was a relief. She made me feel comfortable and in trust worthy hands. Plus she did a great job on my hair. Ive been back many times and satisfied every time. more

I wanted hair extensions, so, I went to Bliss where Nicole Escudero excelled in her work. I don't have enough praise and thank you for the job she did for me, my hair was quite short and she did a fantastic job with the extensions. I get lots of compliments and I am very happy with the results. I can't even tell myself the difference between natural long and my extensions, not to mention most of the people and friends can't either and they are very impressed on how natural it looks. Nicole is an artist, she does her work to perfection and it is fun to spend the time with her. She is very down to earth, honest and takes her work to highest levels of perfection. I am gratefull and extremly happy that I choose her for my hair extensions. I will always follow her as my hair stylist, no matter where she is. I strongly recomend her for anybody that wants an artistb working on their hair, wants to look sexy and feel good about it. She is the best, if you need hair extensions, run to her, don't hesitate, she knows what she is doing and she is doing it extremly well. Thank you is not enough for to show her how much I appreciate my extensions and how happy I am with them, still, from the bottom of my heart, thank you Nicole for your perfect work on me! more

I have been to Bliss before but not for a couple of years and so I was very excited when they did the Groupon offer a few months ago. I was expecting a baby in May so i wasn't able to get in until just a few weeks ago. I met a friend there for mani/pedis before lunch out. I had Carmel (who was very nice) for my appointment. Unfortunately I could tell immediately that my manicure was not going to be good. She used way too thick of coats and it was all bubbly. I admit that I am a bit of a picky person when I get a manicure so maybe some people would have been okay with it. I decided to let it go as the pedicure was what I really came in for. I LOVE pedicures and try to get them about once a month at some salon. Carmel did a nice job on the soothing part but she also cut my nails way too short and cut my cuticles on the side of my nails which resulted in a cut big toe. It stung and throbbed but it stopped bleeding after a little bit. The polish looked a bit better but not great also as once again I thought it was too thick. By the next day my toe was super infected and oozing pus. It was the 4th of July so I waited a couple of days to call and left a message for the owner. I did get one call back from Tammy who left me a cell phone number to call her back at but the message cut out and I was missing a couple of digits. I called the next couple of days two more times and left messages but as of now I haven't received any more call backs. I did appreciate that they took their time with me as sometimes when you are using a coupon they rush. I just feel like the finished product wasn't very good. I have never got an infection from a pedicure before or bleed! I had to wait for a time when I could get a babysitter for my kids to go there and overall it wasn't worth it. I have 2 more groupons but I don't really want to return or gift them away after my experience. more

I've lived in Portland for 4 years, and I am horribly ashamed to say that it took me that long to find my hair's soulmate. A few months ago I was on a quest to find someone to style my hair in victory rolls for a 40s themed photoshoot. After reading so many killer reviews of Bliss, I knew I had found the place. Rae took my poor, limp, sad mane into her amazingly gifted hands and in the blink of an eye, my hair had time-traveled to the 1940s. It was like MAGIC. I immediately booked an appointment for a cut with her the following week--and yet again--MAGIC. My hair had never been so happy. I was just in for a haircut today and mentioned I was going to a friend's wedding this evening and here I sit, my normally stick straight hair full of soft and lovely curls. Nobody else in Portland will ever be allowed to get their hands on my hair again. VIVA LA RAE! more

My opion this salon is great. Amber Rae welcomed me in with a friendly smile and proffesional view on what looked best with my hair type. I've been loving my hair and finally I know how to style my hair at home. more

I originally went to Bliss salon to see Rae, Amber Rae, to recieve a kertin straightening. I was just interested in making my hair more manageable, but ended up realizing I LOVE my hair! I usually have always colored my own hair, just cover the few greys, But after meeting Amber Rae I desided to try something new. I went in for a color and left feeling like a new women! TRUST ME LADIES, there is a difference between being okay with your hair to feeling the confidnece from enjoying my hair. I say 5 stars and please run, dont walk to go see Rae. more

Mary has been my stylist for over 4 years. She is absolutely incredible! She styled my hair for my wedding, helped me find a variety of styles to fit my busy life and now cuts my entire family's hair! I was so excited to see that Mary is now at Bliss Salon. We have already had our first appointments at Bliss and we were thrilled to have a great experience and to try the bumble and bumble products! If you want a great cut every time, CALL MARY! Great with all types of hair-even your husbands! more

I saw Caitlin at Bliss after reading multiple promising reviews on Citysearch and they all held true. I went in to get a drastic haircut, going from LONG hair to a pixie cut and I loved the finished product, not to mention I was asked out by 3 different men in the following 2 weeks. Caitlin is amazing! I brought in a picture of what I wanted and she matched it perfectly! more

My stylist is Nicole and she is AWESOME. My hair ALWAYS looks better that I thought it could. Probably, because she takes her time to make sure the results are wonderful and she engages you in the process, to avoid unpleasant surprises. I had been looking for a salon and stylist to call my own.........and I am pleased to have found it in Nicole. She rocks!!!!!!! more

If I could put - 5 stars in this review I would. I sadly decided to try this place out not knowing what I was getting into. I scheduled an appt. with Nicole wanting her to dye my hair blonde, which was light brown already with highlights. She said yes we can do it. After 4.5 hours in her chair, two colors later (first orange then to a urine yellow blonde) and a very sore head, I left. Came home to my husband crying like a baby! He discovered my scalp to be literally torn up from the peroxide and bleach she put directly on my head. I had the start of blisters all over my head and had 4 that actually broke!! My head was in so much pain I could not sleep until 5am! The next day, I went to another salon for a professional opinion of what had happened to me. After she and her other colleges looked at my head and heard what had happened to me, they said it was completely unacceptable and that one of their staff was actually fired a while back for doing the same thing to a client. She said I could get her fired if I wanted to!! Of course not wanting any of that, I decided I would call the "state board" of hair for Oregon to run by them what had happened. They also said that no matter what a client should never be in severe pain while getting your hair colored and should never never never have blisters appear on the scalp in any circumstances. Meanwhile...I am suffering from huge dandruff flakes from my crispy fried head and a nasty blonde color. (I have really long, thick hair to top it off). Just saying, If you are looking for someone to do you hair in Portland, Or, I would NOT recommend Nicole unless you want a crispy, sore, blistery head. more

I usually Don't write reviews but I had such a positive experience and thought I would share since that is how I found Bliss (City Search reviews). I moved to Oregon over 2 years ago and have not been able to find someone to cut my tricky fine hair ( or even to listen and be receptive to how I'd like it cut ). I went to Bliss for the fist time last week and Nicole cut and highlighted my hair. She is fantastic at what she does, knowledgeable and confident. I have not had color for ten years so she helped me figure out something that I would be comfortable with......and it turned out great. I am in the service industry myself and It's great when someone goes out of there way to voice a positive experience v.s. just complaining if there is a negative one. Keep it up Nicole and staff ( I forgot to mention the receptionist was even great!) Thank you! more

Bliss salon has a great vibe, the atmosphere is comfortable and friendly. Ive been going to Rae, well actually her full name is Amber Rae, for awhile now and I have always been happy with my hair. I desided I wanted to try something new, i havent changed my hair in years. Normally I'm use to a stylist trying to convince me not to change, tell me i wont like it. Not Amber Rae, she listened to what i wanted and my concerns and we were able to create something that is new and fun ( color and a cut ) It turned out WONDERFUL! I love it. more

Go to Rae!! My first visit to Bliss was a delight! I've been to many upscale salons in Portland and Lake Oswego. Spent waaay too much money and ended up unsatisfied with the results on my blonde highlights. Rae was very knowledgeable and professional. She has an amazing understanding of color (...color correction on me, back to a beautiful BLONDE again - with NO brassiness!!) My cut is awesome as well. A long razored shag - very sass and fun! Rae has a gift. She's an true artist! You won't be disappointed. Cheers! more

I have been going to Caitie Magraw for over 3 years now and have never walked away disappointed. I have gone from long to short, blonde to dark... every style and color has been one of a kind and absolutely perfect. I have yet to find anyone as personable and fun as Caitie!!! more

I've been to many excellent hairdressers in LA and San Diego but no one has ever cut my hair as well as Caitie. I even went to Jennifer Aniston's hairdresser, who was the stylist for friends for many years, and had great haircuts from him twice, but Caitie is better! more
