I live in the immediate area, and love to stroll for cocktails, and it is a great drinking bar. BUT, as I entertain out-of -towners often, I spent my time in the bar amazed at the...

This really isn't for locals, is it 4/7/2008

This place is for people from the Marina and Walnut Creek, who feel like doing something ""different"" and find the Mission scene too scary. And it's loud dance music, not lounge music. Average cocktails. more

Not as advertised, offensively loud 11/26/2007

I recently moved to the Noe area and expected a nice, local, low-key place to hang out. But it was incredibly loud, not at all the mellow, lounge-y place I expected based on user and editorial reviews. We went for drinks and the DJ kept cranking it up little by little until it was intolerable. My ears were still ringing the next day. Plus, the crowd was not local, some were really young, not a sophisticated group at all. One was parked on 24th St with car doors open and stereo blasting the area for blocks. How young do you have to be to think that's cool? Noe is populated by young professionals who would like a cool, lounge-y bar to hang out at, rather than just sports bars. This is not it. Truly, the nice drinks and appearance of this bar cannot make up for the unsavory crowd and ridiculous noise level. Pros: can't make up for the loudness Cons: SO LOUD you can't talk without screaming in each other's ears more

A Diamond In The Rough 6/18/2007

Thanks Citysearch, Bliss Bar is the best! Though it's located in the heart of the hard to find a parking space Noe Valley........... Bliss Bar and its owner Pierre along with his staff were wonderful. I recently hosted an intimate birthday celebration in the Blue room. All of my guest truly fell in love with Bliss. The space was absolutely wonderful and our server was fantastic. This was a birthday celebration I will remember for years to come. \r I definitely will host future events here. Bliss Bar is the place to go on a date, with friends, or even host your next party there. I highly recommend it!\r \r Pros: Great service and nice crowd more

Gotta Have a Mojito! 9/19/2006

I've been here countless times and the reason is simple...Thier Mojitos! They are amazing, not too sweet and not watered down. The bar is always a super casual vibe with hip clients in thier 20s and 30s. Sometimes it's hard to find a seat so it's great for a 2 or 3 person night out. Plus you gotta check out the Caged room in the back. I say Fantastic place to hang out, talk, and have some great drinks. Pros: not too noisey Cons: parking on the weekends more

OK music, OK martinis, Killer Bellinis 5/22/2006

I have been here 4 times and each time it's gotten a bit better. The first time was awful so that isn't saying a lot! I went on a completely dead night and went up to the bar, money in hand, and proceeded to be ignored. The bartender washed glasses, served a couple of guys, washed some more glasses, and then she looked over me to ask my boyfriend (who was back against the wall behind me) if she could get him anything. Another night that I went it was pretty dead, but the service was better, and a few times that I've gone it was pretty packed. For being a martini bar they do not have a very extensive martini menu, but watch out for their bellini, it packs a punch! The bellini, and the fact that I can walk home will inevitably bring me back to Bliss. Pros: decor, DJ, neighborhood Cons: drink menu, unpredictable service more

Very Pleased 10/13/2005

I recently discovered this small establishment in quiet Noe Valley, and I was pleasently surpised with my finding. The bar was quite busy, with a very mixed crowd of people. Two DJ's were spinning by the window, with a nice mix of Hip Hop and RnB. The bar staff was quite attentive, and the drinks were rather well done. It had a lovely atmosphere, although there was not enough dancing floor for comfort, an easy flaw to overlook. The owner who stood by the door, was very assiduous and overlooked the incoming crowd in a curtious fasion. I most enjoyed my first time in Bliss and would be pleased to return. Pros: Great Atmospehere, attentive Staff, Well Made Drinks Cons: Little Dancing Room more

worth the stop 9/30/2005

I work in the bar industry, and heard the drinks are good and cheap in this bar. Sat at the bar and noticed an older man, who I later learned was the owner, talking to one of the bartenders. He seemed extemely condescending, at one point telling the girl that she had gained weight and not only was the girl ignoring his comments but it seemed like it was normal. Though I felt bad putting money in his pocket, the staff handled the bar welll and the crowd was good looking and fun. Pros: good priced drinks, nice staff, great music Cons: confusing scene, should have a fire more

Great Place and Great Owner 7/25/2004

I went to bliss this weekend and had such a great time. After spending the previous night dancing with friends, bliss was the perfect spot to hang out and drink with good friends. I brought an friend from LA and she loved it. The wait staff was very nice and attentive. The owner was great! When we first got to the bar there wasnt a place to sit. He brought us over to an area where his friends were sitting, introduced us to his friends and made us feel at home. Bliss is a must. It was a pleasure supporting this hip local spot. Pros: Atmosphere, Comfortable seating, great private room more

Blissful! 7/30/2003

Great bar/lounge to hang out with some friends and have some drinks! I enjoyed the ambient music with a mix of acid jazz and hiphop. Bliss is small, located in a quiet neighborhood so it's less likely to call attention to youngsters with fake id's. I'm in my early 20's, but the crowd is mainly in their late 20's to early 30's. Their mojitos are the best I've tasted so far compared to other places! Give it a try! Come early cuz it gets crowded around midnight. Pros: mojitos, friendly staff, bring drinks to you Cons: no dancing more

Cocktail Time! 4/19/2003

Popped into Bliss Bar Friday night, nice spot! The bar is pretty narrow with bench seating, small tables and chairs. Lighting is very subdued with a small gas fireplace. Crowd was very mixed, mostly late 20's to early 30's. In the back is a private room, looks like some space to stretch out. Their was a DJ spinning some good music to keep things grooving. Only thing that bothered me were the drinks, they were not very well made and I think the bartender blew one drink entirely as noted in an earlier posting Pros: Good Music, Nice Digs, Mixed Crowd Cons: Poorly Made Drinks more

Trendy Space, Not so trendy crowd 3/23/2003

Trendy lounge space and very cool music. DJs at this place are very impressive. it's cruel not to have a dance space when the music simply makes you want to get up and shake. It'd be nicer if DJ space was more visible. Someone told me this space used to be a pub? I think the pub regulars are still coming to this place. It gets crowded. patrons are generally 27 and above. Pros: yummy martinis/mojito, fireplace, cool music Cons: crowded, boring crowd more

Nice & cozy! 2/10/2003

Bliss is a great place to go hang out with your friends. The service was cool and drinks were alright. The place was plushed out! It felt like the Matrix Fillmore's little sister! The crowd was mixed and everyone seemed real cool and relaxed. Pros: Plushed out! more

Chillaxing 1/30/2003

Perfect place to chill and relax; enjoy good conversations to the dj's (donovan-i think) groovy head bobbing ecclectic beats. (Hip hop/Jazzy/downbeat house) Friendly bartenders, nice ambience. Attracts a down-to-earth crowd....at least that night I was there. A lot smaller than pictures on the website, but I think it was good that way. Not a dancing-type of club, but can certainly get you're groove on if you wanted; more of a loungey setting. Pros: not that crowded, small, music Cons: small more

Nice spot to lounge 1/24/2003

Nicest spot in SF I've been to for a place to just hang out. Suave atmosphere and nice clientele. Not too much trouble finiding parking and it's in a very nice relaxed middle class neighborhood. Pros: Environs, Clientele, Parking Cons: Prices, Crowded, Poor back room more

Finally..... 12/23/2002

When the Bliss Bar first opened in Noe Valley, the neighborhood wasn't quite sure what to make of it. But, finally, it has become a staple of the nightlife in one of the best neighborhoods in San Francisco. It's a bar with character and mood - from the lighting to the drinks to the bartenders. The Bliss Bar is a great bar for a first date or for a casual get together with friends... Make sure you check it out.... Pros: Friendly staff, great mood, good music more

Bad bartenders 11/18/2002

I have worked in the restaurant industry for years, and always give bartenders and waitstaff the benefit of the doubt, but the female bartenders this past weekend were incredibly rude and couldn't mix a drink. My first martini was THE WORST I have ever had, and the second drink was not what I ordered. I had to turn to bottled beer. Please learn to do your job with a good attitude, or this cool spot will go bust. Again. Pros: Good atmosphere Cons: Poor service, Bad mixed drinks more

Blessed. 11/9/2002

I like this bar more and more every time I go in there. It is a fun bar with good music and great atmosphere. A good place to hang out with friends. Pros: Drinks, music, atmosphere more

that place you've been looking for. 11/7/2002

if you're looking for a chill, classy bar to go to with a date or with friends, this could be the place you've been looking for. the music, surroundings, and general ambience define urban elegance, while maintaining a surprisingly nonpretentious air; if one of the pierres who owns the bar is around, he'll be happy to show you around. oh, and hands down the BEST cosmo i've ever had, anywhere -- for a measly five bucks. the aptly named bliss bar won't disappoint. Pros: classy, very affordable, great music Cons: kinda far away more

Neighborhood class 9/4/2002

Living in Noe Valley for the last 4 years, I recently went into Bliss and was delighted to see a nicely done ""neighborhood"" bar where not only do the locals appreciate Noe but the staff is also part of the neighborhood. Although the bartenders looked incredibly serious while they were working, they were very friendly and poured a great drink. I will be frequenting Bliss as long as my liver allows! Pros: girl bartenders, good music, good drink list Cons: very busy more

Gotten Cuter 7/12/2002

At first I was a little leery of this plush den in Noe Valley, but I think it's really found a niche -- not too professional, not too whacky -- a good place to take my folks! more
