Found a piece of wire and paper in my food! 3/25/2009

Went to the Blanco Cafe for dinner, and one in our party found a three in long piece of wire and paper in the barbacoa plate. The waiter did not apologize, but offered to bring another plate, which we accepted. When we got the bill, they charged us for everything! We thought at least the one dinner would be free, but no! When we complained at check-out, the manager said there was nothing he would do about it. We stated we would never come back to the Blanco Cafe, and he said ""That would be best!"" POOR SERVICE, BAD MANAGEMENT, MEDIOCRE FOOD AT BEST! TACO BELL HAS BETTER TACO'S! Pros: Cheap Mexican Food Cons: Poor Service and Manager Attiude to Customer more

Average availabilty 8/10/2008

Good food but if you go around noon on the weekends they'll be out of certain dishes like the barbacoa and the ham and egg tacos. So if you've waited all week for these dishes call ahead and ask for availability. Pros: fast service Cons: limited parking more

Outstanding! One of the Best Mexican Restaurants in San Antonio 6/8/2008

This is a locally owned San Antonio ORIGINAL. The enchaladas and homemade tortillas are among the very best in San Antonio. Reader Poll after Reader Poll rates their enchaladas as Best in the City. The price is extremely right! In fact, the Blanco Cafe is probably the best cheap Mexican Food in San Antonio. All of their locations are good, they all have great servivce and are always, always clean. I speak from 30 years of experince in going to the Blanco Cafe. This is the kind of Mexican Food that people talk about when they talk about the great Mexican Food in San Antonio. Pros: The Food, The Service, The Price. Cons: If you eat there every day, you will get fat and die! more

Still the original 8/15/2005

Known as Blanco #1 it is the first and best of the Blanco Cafe's. You can go to different resturants for different meals and if you want cheesy filling enchiladas that come out hot, this is your destination. I have been going for over 10 years and all the wait staff are great. Definately a local favorite. BTW the ""Mexican Diner"" is 6.99 because everything is fresh! I have to disagree about the Dr. Pepper, its gotta be an iced tea. Either way lots of prompt refils and a fast turnover and delivery! Always a good experience! more

Good food for the buck 7/25/2004

Good food, friendly service, and affordable plates. I like the enchiladas (though they use american cheese) from Blanco Cafe but the rice and beans need some work. I felt the beans and the rice had a fresh from the can (or box) taste to them. I would recommend trying the restaurant but be cautious of peak times because the restaurant is small. Pros: Affordable, Friendly Service, Good Food Cons: , rice&beans more

Worth It! 12/8/2003

I finally found my enchiladas I have been looking for, and they were here at Blanco Cafe. Old style, greasy, cheesey, and damn good. Some of the best values in town are here. I think the most anything cost is $6.99. Place is small, not in the best neighborood, and always busy. But there is a reason for that. This is the non tourist trap mexican food that I was looking for when I moved here. Pros: Food!, Great Value Cons: Crowded, Parking more

Toro! 9/10/2002

Have been eating in the Blanco for approximatley 30 years. Travel from Florida 2/3 times yearly, and Blanco is on the menu. The original Mexican Dinner was $1.99, and is still very moderately priced at $6.99. The hand-formed flour torillas are exceptional, and the cheese enchiladas are beyond description. I rate the food a 10, but do miss the velvet black Elvis paintings from years past. Also, the front window has been repaired, the floor tiled, and menus offered, but hopefully this will stop as it will destroy the ambiance. The Blanco is deep in the Bario, but tourist are safe with children. When you absolutely, positively have to have the best Mescan food, feast at the Blanco Cafe! Ole! Pros: Enchiladas, Flour Tortillas, Enchilada sauce Cons: No Blanco in Florida more

Busy at lunch 6/10/2002

This place is packed at lunch, but they'll find a place to get you in. Order a big plate of cheesy enchiladas with a Dr. Pepper and you're in Tex-Mex heaven. more
