Beyond Belief Bad with vommiting and Diarreah to boot 12/25/2010

What a wonderful Christmas present Bistro Provence gave our family . We not only enjoyed the beet salad once but got to enjoy it two more times in the sink and toilet at three am . To say the least we should have left upon entering and realizing it is owned by the same family as another horrible gastraunomical experience at Don Quiote on Del Monte . I have grown up and lived in France. I have enjoyed food from The Tour D'argent to family owned cafes . Bistro Provence should be ashamed of themselves for calling themselves French . Not one thing was good . They figured out how to ruin Beef Bougenoine - no pastry . They also made the worst apricot tart in the world . I think they were too cheap to spring for sugar . All in all beyond belief putrid . more

Good Food but obnoxious Management 7/27/2010

The food we had at Bistro Provence was good and unique. The restaurant as a very interesting ambiance and we were looking forward to a nice lunch when we sat down. The wait staff was very nice but the maitre d'/ owner or manager was very obnoxious and rather offensive in his disdane for us. More than once he interjected his opinion into our private conversations and corrected my wife twice. We were made to feel unwelcome (maybe because we are not locals) and the way we were treated ruined our lunch.\r \r All in all, no matter how good the food is, one does not want to be treated poorly. And the food was NOT good enough to make up for his behaviour. Pros: Good cuisine Cons: Rude, Snooty, Obnoxious service more

Horrible customer service 3/6/2010

We've been there before, and the food was ok, but our last trip was horrendous. We arrived, on a slightly busy night. They won't take reservations, so be aware it's luck of the draw, especially if you have a party of more than two. We were told it would be about a 30 minute wait. At first they were very nice, they had us waiting outside, but turned on another portable heater, etc. However, 30 minutes turned to 40, then 50...and no one came out to check on us. Several other tables of 2 (4 in total) were seated before us, even though we had been waiting longer. The waitresses/hostesses wouldn't even look in our direction when they came out. We were stupid, I guess, and waited an Hour and 20 minutes. Finally the manager came out and made a brief cursory apology and told us it would be 10 or 15 minutes more. NO ONE at any time offered us some water, or some bread, or anything at all. You'd think if you kept someone waiting THAT long, you'd try to make it up to them in SOME way. We were EXTREMELY patient, and they abused it without any remorse. When we finally got up to leave, not wanting to waste any more of the night, and the manager saw us and asked rather curtly if we were leaving, as if she couldn't believe it. We replied yes, that we were tired of waiting, and she just gave a little shrug and turned away. That's really really poor customer service. The food isn't THAT good that you can afford to treat customers that way. There are so many other good restaurants in that area, I'd say it's not worth putting up with horrible service to go there. Pros: Food is ok, one of only a few french places nearby Cons: small, crowded, somewhat expensive, poor customer service more

great french dining 8/30/2009

This is a quaint restaurant with good food and decent prices which can be sometimes difficult to find in Houston. The service has always been good when we go and the dinner specials as well as the regular menu never disappoint. Pros: best bread in town more

Great Little Family-Owned French Restaurant 7/17/2009

Bistro Provence is a great little family-owned French restaurant. The chef and his wife are French and so are some of the waitstaff. The menu is traditional home cooking with a flair of the cuisine from the south of France. If you've been to France...you'll love it and you won't go broke!\r \r I love this little gem of a restaurant in the middle of a strip mall. The restaurant is small but quaint and inviting. The food is great for the price. It seems like the owners appreciate diners who appreciate good french food. It's definitely worth the trip. \r \r Bistro Provence is as close as you can get to the experience of eating at a French restaurant without leaving town. There are ten or so tables on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. On a warm night, it's a joy to sit outside and eat a light meal, as we did on our next visit.\r \r Bistro Provence isn't perfect, but the food is very, very good. On a dark evening with a bottle of French red wine and the aroma of garlic wafting through the air, I can close my eyes and imagine I'm back in rural France seated in a cozy auberge dining with friends and family.\r \r Bon appétit!\r \r Alain G. Harvey Pros: Charming with Excellent Food, Prices and a Friendly Staff Cons: Limited Seating more

Wonderful Valentine's Day 3/18/2009

Went there on Valentine's Day and had a luxurious meal that was complemented by fantastic service. The lamb and lobster bisque were perfection. We live out of town but when we visit again we will be back! Pros: Service and superb food combined Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Great French food in the suburbs! 12/29/2008

So this is right around the corner from where I work, so I am lucky enough to be able to visit for lunch. I love it - the atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, and clearly there is much care given to the ingredients and makings of each dish. I am a fan of French food but for those that aren't, there are more familiar dishes like pizza.\r \r I think this a super place for a date, as well. Very authentic look and taste. more

not a good menu 9/28/2008

After a long weekend with out power , me and my family decided to go eat , our friends have told us about this place outside of wilcrest. The bread was not hot and they served us some spices that where bittter and tasteless. They also said they didnt have the full menu and was limited to a special chalk board that to me was not readable after that we ordered the specials but for us it was not to our satatisfaction we wont be going back. Pros: sat outside Cons: tasteless spices and no full menu more

This restaurant has it all 8/22/2008

We have been there twice and the food and service is beyond expectations of the finest restaurants in Houston. The food is superb; prepared with a flair and skill far beyond what I would have expected from a small restaurant in Houston. This is in my humble opinion the best dining value in Houston. For anyone who enjoys French cuisine at it?s best you can not afford to miss this opportunity to delight your taste buds. Pros: Chef, wait staff, food preparation, escarot!!!, bread more

Bistro Lamb Salad was the BOMB! 8/21/2008

Had lunch there on today with some of my co-workers and this was my first time there. It was (5) of us. Three of us order the Roasted Chicken that came with potatoes and veggies and (1) ordered the Vegetarian Pizza and I had the Bistro Lamb Salad which was simply delicious...the Lamb was juicy and tender. I can't wait to go back to try something different on their menu. Pros: Amibience and Service was Great! more

Best French Food..... 8/19/2008

My husband is not a fan of french food, but he changed his mind after his visit to Bistro Provence. The food is simply amazing and it's a cozy & romantic place to bring a date! more

Reminds us of our favorite place in Paris. 7/21/2008

I surprised my husband and took him here for our anniversary. I was hoping it would be close to our favorite little place we found in Paris-and it did. The ambience is similar, very cute, little and romantic. The chef is amazing. I am so glad I read the reviews here! It is fabulous! The creme brulee was perfect, and we highly recommend the mango duck. Be prepared to be wowed.\r \r \r Pros: Very France like Cons: does not take reservations more

Ca C'est bonne!! 6/19/2008

My husband I discovered this wonderful bistro 3 years ago. It took us a while to figure out their hours because they were not posted on the door. Once we did find them open, it was love! The service was friendly and excellent. The food delicious -- from the starters through to dessert. The wine list also very good and came with knowledgable recommendations. We've been hooked ever since. We go as often as possible and take our friends. We celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and goodbye dinners. The restaurant is small with tables close to each other, which can sometimes stir impromtu interesting conversations with those next to you! We'll keep coming back! This is our favorite spot! Pros: Everything! Cons: Tables are close together -- could be a problem if you are handicapped. more

Great Deal on the real deal french food. 4/30/2008

Very comfortable place, small and intimate, and with the real-deal for French food. \r \r Country Pate is as my wife makes it. Nice wines; bread is terrific. Soups and stews are wonderful. I'd stay clear of the beef dishes, as they can be tough - need a better cut of meat there. Apart from that, just terrific stuff and it won't cost an arm and a leg.\r \r I eat there 1/week when visiting Houston. Pros: Food, price Cons: can get crowded at peak time which strains the servers. more

Great place for birthdays! 4/24/2008

Everything was great, the environment, manager, chef, waiter and servers!! This was my first time visiting a French restaurant and the experience was outstanding! Our waiter Jonathan was so nice and explained to us every aspect of the menu. The atmosphere was very welcome and extravagant! The chef came to our table to check is everything was fine. My husband wanted to celebrate my birthday in a French restaurant, so he had five different choices of restaurant, and then he chose Bistro Provence. Of course, he made a perfect choice as usual. : )\r \r Thanks Jonathan for your service...\r more

COMFORTABLY DELIGHTED AND CHARMED FRANCAIS STYLE 7/18/2007

A refreshing euro-jewel of a bistro. Authentic french fare, charisma, and feel with warm hospitable care for their guests. I am french and one the things I miss the most from France has to be the food...I have never been disapointed at the Bistrot de Provence!!!\r \r I love their apetizers, from the snails,to the Rillettes(sans oublier le foie gras),and the ""tapenade with the fougasse ""is a must..\r I would recomand the duck as an entree, but the selection of fish is exellent too!!!\r Now,if you still have room, the deserts are unforgettable...Wish there was a big patio to enjoy a glass of (great)wine as well...\r \r This ""little coin de France"" is so romantic, very welcoming and so so french!!!!! \r more
