If you're looking for cheese - this is it. You need some off-the-wall tasty treat? Ditto. Worth a trip just to cruise the store.

Extensive Cheese Selection 11/27/2006

This is a fantastic shop for foodies and most especially cheese lovers! They have an extensive cheese selection & stock items that you can't find anywhere else. For example, I had been looking for English Applewood Smoked Cheddar without luck. I had tried Whole Foods, Larry's, Metropolitan Market, Trader Joe's, and QFC without luck. I was SO excited to find this at PFI. Buying & eating one pound of this yummy cheddar defnitely isn't a hardship! http://www.bigjohnspfi.com/ more

Best deal on bulk olives 4/28/2006

I can't even imagine paying $8-$9/lb for olives when I can head on over to PFI's and get them for practically half that! And good olives they are! The grocery section has a good selection, but may not be the the most economical. I have found some Italian products that you can't find anywhere outside of NYC. more

Like a Mediterranean Costco (almost) 8/20/2005

PFI is a great place to get bulk olives and feta. Their deli area has good prices on imported cheeses and meats but the minimum purchase is one pound. I always bring a good sealing container and store the feta and olives in the brine that they will provide you. Lots of bulk herbs to select from, interesting import items. Watch the prices on the non-deli and herb sections - a lot of items are priced above what you could find elsewhere. This place is packed during the Christmas season. I've seen people walk out with several wheels of cheese amongst other things during the entertaining season. more

Great Imported Groceries and Bulk goods 8/15/2005

PFI has a great selection of bulk spices, beans, and rice, as well as cheeses, deli meats, canned goods, candies, teas, pastas, middle eastern, Italian, Mediterranean and other foodstuffs from all over the world. Don’t miss the dried fish, though for the life of me I don’t know what I’d use it for. Loads of jams, olives, oils, vinegars. The prices on the bulk stuff are GREAT! more

Best feta source known! 4/22/2005

This is a great out-of-the-way source of European/Mediterranean groceries at sometimes unbelievable prices! It's sort of a warehouse outlet store located on the south end of town. One of the best finds here is the feta, available in bulk for incredibly cheap (a little over $3/lb, i think - 1lb minimum) with rustic-tasting Bulgarian and Romanian varieties available. The're not open late, and not open on weekends, so you might want to check the times before you go. more
