Mean Hostess! 2/15/2011

Out to try a new restaurant here in Columbus, we decided on Betty's, based on the menu we saw online. We were a party of six adults. We arrived at Betty's around 5:15 on a Saturday night. There were a couple of tables opened and we were told by the hostess that we all had to sit at a four-top table. As she was getting it ready, the table next to it opened up. We asked if we could have both tables pushed together for the six of us. She told us no, that they don't put tables together for six people, they add two chairs. We then said that we would split up and do three and three next to eachother. She went back and talked to the bartender and another server and came back to us with a mean stare and said we could push them together. There was no one waiting to be seated but us and no one else even walked into the restaurant to eat until we were almost finished. She gave us ""the look"" for the rest of the night. \r \r Thankfully she was not our server, we had a server that was ok. He didn't go over and beyond anything and was just ok. \r \r The food was really good. The six of us were very happy with our meals and drinks. \r \r Nothing there would get me back based on the service. more

Food is decent but is the lousy service worth it? 3/10/2009

I am a frequent visitor to Columbus and have eaten here a number of times. The atmosphere is OK, the decor is in Betty Paige theme. There is always a decent selection of draft beers, and the menu is pretty good. I have had their mac & cheese a number of times and it is quite good. However every time I go there I am left feeling at best nonplusssed by the service. In particular there is a fully bearded guy who usually works the bar who contantly makes me feel like I am the biggest inconvenience in the world.\r \r Tonight I asked for a table (there were four empty ones) and was told I had to sit at the bar, which was packed. I insisted on a table, which I finally got after some glares. And as usual I get my appetizer soup and my main course at the same time so by the time I am done the soup my dinner is cold. I've given this place enough chances, I am done! more

This bar has a problem with military IDs 11/11/2008

My husband and I wanted to enjoy a drink here, but we never got the chance. When asked for ID, I presented my active duty military identification, which I have used for 5 years at restaurants, bars, and supermarkets without a single problem. I didn't have my driver's license with me because I was not driving that evening. The bartender said that the liquor agency told him to only take state IDs, and we were turned away.\r \r Maybe the bartender was just trying to do his job and follow the rules, but I don't believe for one second that any government agency would prohibit the use of official military identification as proof of age. Military IDs have a photo and social security number and would be much harder to forge and are more tightly controlled than state driver's licenses. Give me a break. I felt disrespected for serving my country, and I won't be going back to this place. more

Great atmosphere and food 10/5/2006

Have been going there for for a couple years now. You will have to wait a little bit if its busy for a seat, but go to the bar and order a great drink. Had my first appletini there and it was AWESOME!! Food portions are big. I usually end up taking half mine home and have it for lunch the next day. Very diverse and can be yourself in the short north. Staff is very good and friendly. If you havnt ate here, definatly try it, you will like it. more

Great Eating in Short North 8/12/2006

First of all, if the restaurant is geared and decorated with Bettie Page, they've spelled it wrong. I love the 50's decor. Very small seating, about 10 tables, but you can eat at the bar. I had the nachos with black chips - very good. My date had the Beer Brats with mashed potatoes and grilled peppers and onions - I'm getting that when I go back! Drinks were excellent and the customer service wasn't bad (they forgot our silverware), but overall, I'd love to go back! more

best late night food 7/5/2006

I've been to Betty's many times for lunch with my sister-- tried a new dish each time and have never been disappointed. Wait staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the menu-- my favorite dish, the Southwest Chicken Salad, came as a recommendation by my waitress when I couldn't decide on my meal. I love that Betty's kitchen is open late-- nothing like the Spinach dip after midnight! Great beer and funky drink selection as well. Pros: food, service, drink selection Cons: can get crowded more

LUV betty's! 4/22/2006

My husband and I are like Jack Sprat and his wife-- I'm a strict vegetarian and he loves him some meat. Betty's is perfect for us! It's also a perfect place to go for a girls night out with late night food and Betty Ford Clinics (the name is funny but tasteless and the drink is excellent). Appetizers here are excellent and portions are huge. I'm still exploring the menu and after numerous dinners still haven't exhausted all my options-- which is a huge feat for a vegetarian who doesn't eat cheese :O) Pros: great quality , everything's yummy, vegetarian options! Cons: limited seating more

Spicy Soba and a Cold Beer 4/6/2006

What a fun place to meet up with friends for ArtsWalk night, or unwind after work. The beer list is carefully put together, and the menu is modest, wholesome, and fun. The spicy soba noodles were yummy and the vegetarian fare was very, well, vegetarian (thank goodness.) Portions are normal. Pros: veg-friendly, tasty beer, fun atmosphere Cons: loud, crowded, long wait times more

""exotic"" beers in columbus 3/4/2006

We recently relocated from a larger city to Columbus. At every opportunity, we ask people we encounter where to go--and Betty's is the place! In the land of ""King of Beers"" it is great to have alternative choices on tap at Betty's! There are vegetarian options on the menu, and the servers are very friendly when requesting alterations or changes to a dish to ensure that it meets dietary needs. The ambiance is kitchy but not pretentious. more

Betty's is one of Columbus' Best 8/20/2005

Betty's is one of my favorite restaurants in this city. Great food, great service in a funky, eccelctic place. It is a sigh of relief from the chain restaurants that dominate Columbus. Great mixed drinks and an excellent selection of beers. Pros: Inexpensive, Great Service more

Fun Decor, Good Drinks, and Comfort Food! 8/1/2005

Betty's is fabulous. The decor is eclectic Betty, and always inspires good humor and conversation in new visitors. The menu has all the classic comfort foods, and an excellent selection of vegetarian and even vegan items. They are usually very busy on weekend evenings, but get a drink while you wait. They have good beer on tap; a small, but decent wine list; and interesting cocktails, including a Tang martini, Betty Beer, and Surfer Girl in the Curl Blue Hawaiian. Pros: excellent food, good prices, good drinks Cons: Crowsded on weekends more

Always Good 5/9/2005

Been to Betty's a few times now. I have always found the food to be very tasty, the service excellent and the beer selection abundant. Try to get a seat up front so you can people watch. You really can't go wrong here. Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Beer Selection Cons: Parking, Gets Crowded more

yum yum 12/6/2004

A real Columbus treasure. Great crowd, vibe, service and food. We come here at least once a week. Betty's is eclectic.casual and fun and frequented by an interesting mix of local artists and musicians rubbing elbows with local suited politicians! Great place to people watch while eating a delicious meal! Pros: great date spot, cute decor, great beer selection Cons: , weekends are busy, very small place more

Fabulous, Dahling! 12/4/2003

Oh my goodness, I love this place. The bartenders are always amazing, and they make hands-down the BEST flavored martinis in Columbus. The food is always radiant, the service is warm and fuzzy, and the bathroom (women's bathroom, anyway) is covered in great reading material. It's a touch pricey, but so worth it. This place deserves to be packed every day! Pros: Great martinis, Bartenders, Pasta rocks! Cons: Uh, the prices? more

a fantastic find 9/12/2003

betty's is a fantastic find! they have a little bit of everything for everyone. the portions are enormous (you can walk away sometimes with enough leftovers for 2 more meals). their beer selection is awesome (i recommend their special $5 belgian ale that is 10% alcohol - it's on the back of the menu). if i'm with someone and we can't decide where to go, it almost always seems like we end up at betty's. Pros: vegetarian friendly, meat eater friendly more

Fabulous! 7/1/2003

We eat at Betty's all the time. Best place in the Short North by far. Great music, great food, great scandalous photos on the wall, and the best draught beer selection around. Service is friendly, cool and old school, lots of good times to be found here. Pros: Hip, Great menu, Great drink specials Cons: too crowded, hard to find parking, smoking more
