I called up Ben White Auto desperate for a second opinion. I had taken my car to a nearby Japanese auto shop and the manager told me that my car was not worth fixing. My car had broke down and had to be towed to the place. When their mechanic spoke with me he told me that there were several things that could be checked but it was going to be expensive. The manager was really condescending and assuming. more

The mechanics at Ben White Automotive take obvious pride in their work, my old Galaxie 500 was sounding pretty rough when it went in for a carburettor replacement and the shop staff were really proud of the way the car was running when they finished working on it and tuning it . That in itself inspires confidence. After doing a diagnostic on my car, the repair options were presented to me plain and simple. Major repairs were completed only after Oscar had contacted me by phone to discuss the work (ie: no surprises on the docket at the end). They are a busy shop, but if you can leave your car with them it'll be worth your while. more

What daddy's little girl wouldn't say that the shop her dad works in isn't the best? My dad, or better known to y'all as Oscar, makes sure that the shop is run in a honest, professional, and caring mannor. This shop is run with the intention of you leaving with nothing but satisfaction. My dad and the other workers of Ben White Automotive understand that not everyone understands a car, so they help you understand. The first time my car needed a repair I took it to Ben White Auto. A year went by and when it needed a new repair, I took it to Willie's Service Center off of Oltorf (a block from my house). Huge mistake! Three weeks after paying $1200 to get my whole cooling system replaced, it broke down again. I did not get what I paid for! I took it back to Ben White Auto and they fixed it completely. I just had to take it in again this week for something random, and again they did a great job of figuring out what was wrong and correcting it. These guys do a great job! They have a customer for life! I have recommended this place to all my friends who need car repairs. I wouldn't trust anybody else. Pros: They'll fix your car, very trustworthy. Cons: It could take about a day to even look at your car, but that is only because they are that busy with so many customers that know they are the best. more

i had my jeep towed into ben white automotive a little while back because it kept shutting down when ever it went over 10 mph. I thought it was gonna cost me an arm and a leg, but Oscar checked it out and told me what it was and how much it would cost if he fixed...Then he asked me a few questions about the jeep and told me it might still be under warranty. He made a phone call for me and i brought it over to the dealership, I got if fixed for free. They saved me a couple of hundred bucks. You might be able to find a cheaper mechanic but you will not find a better one. They are honest and up front with whats going on with your vehicle. for the past few years, i drove a POS car that visited many repair shops in austin. ben white automotive was by far the most thorough and honest one. i send all my friends there. when i purchased a used car recently, i brought it straight to them to check over for problems because i trust their judgement. highly recommend. Pros: thorough job. honest. these guys know what they are doing. Cons: they are a busy shop, so it might take them awhile to get to your car. but they are busy for a good reason. more

These guys rock. Oscar was exceptionally helpful. I didn't feel like I was taken advantage of. I don't know why people complain about the high price. You get what you pay for! I found Ben White to be totally reasonable. They are very courteous over the phone. They don't pressure you into getting things you don't need at the moment. Ben White Automotive has once again delivered great, personalized service! The mechanics there are really knowledge and honest. My car took days longer than expected (because it spent a lot of time up north getting iced over and as a result was difficult to take apart) but Ben White didn't charge me a penny more than the original price--they did all the additional labor for free. They also allowed me to bring my own part in for installation, at no additional fee. They really took the time to put the car back together nicely, and at a great rate! These guys really know something about Autos. Excellent and friendly customer service. I could have lost upto 600$ if I didn't go to them. Firestone asked me to replace the front ball joints on my Mazda which would cost 600$. When I went to Benwhite, the guy took a look at my car and in 5 minutes he took me to the workroom and showed me the ball joints and explained that there was a loose clamp and no problem with the ball joints and so i didn't need to get it fixed. He didn't even charge me for the diagnostic and fixing the loose clamp. I am definitely going here for any other service!!! Pros: Everything is good about them. I have used this ship a couple times so far. I trust them to tell me when I should do repairs without feeling like they just want to make money off of me and my situation. I would refer al lof my family and friends to go there in the event they need automobile repairs. more

I decided to fix up my '93 Honda Civic instead of buying a new car and brought it here to get a new timing belt, water pump, cv shaft, and numerous little things replaced and attended too. They completed the work on time (1 day) and I'm very satisfied with the job they did. The work that needed to be done, as well as the cost were clearely explained to me. I feel the staff is very knowledgeable and honest. My car hasn't run this well in many years, and as my reclamation project continues on my beloved Honda, I will most definitely be bringing it back here for service! I have had great service from a couple of mechanics in the Austin area. I came to this site for one that is a little closer physically to my location and I regret doing so.\r \r I will not be back for service. I got several easy issues fixed with no problem and had a couple issues that were routine but a bit more difficult, that were swept over or not done correctly. I was mislead about a part replacement as well, stating that they replaced a part when in fact they did nothing. I marked a part since it was the second time they would replace it after it didn't fix the issue, really never expecting to find that mark when I picked up the car again. I asked at that time and they said they replaced it yet it was clearly the same part, unbelievable. If you have something easily fixed then you will probably get by fine, if not prepare yourself for less than spectacular service.\r \r Furthermore the practice of passing out coupons to receive a discount on further auto repairs if you leave feedback on this site is totally misleading. I found BW Automotive through this site and I believe it may not reflect their actual quality of service. People who got decent service and want a future discount will be much more likely to leave feedback (positive at that) and get the discount from the coupon for doing so. I will not be going back and neither will anyone I know. I could leave more about communication and timely repairs but this is enough. As a consumer I will leverage my opinion with my dollar elsewhere in the future, truly terrible overall. Pros: Price was accurate (for bad service?) I was very pleased with the staff that preformed the work on my 03 Audi. I feel they are knowlegdeable and up front on what needed to been done. They are willing to work on my Audi, some machanics do not have the same confidence to work on a Audi. I was told ""if I can't do the the work I will let you know"". They are very competitive with pricing and up front/truthful. I would recommend this shop to my friends and will definitely return to get any of my vehicles serviced. more

I was very pleased with the staff and the mechanic ( Adrian) that preformed the work on my truck he was very knowlegdeable and up front on what needed to been done and would answer any question truthfully and treated my truck as if it were his own. They are very competitive price wise and up front and truthful. The sales counter personal was very helpful and respectful. My car was in and out in one day, and the labor cost was very fair. Before getting the car worked on, the manager even told me about places to check out to get discount auto parts that I could more easily afford. Great service, I definitely recommend this place! more

I have been taking my cars to Ben White since 2004 and they have always done a good job. The guarantee/warranty is great. I've actually had to use it and all part replacements and labor were really free. They also usually get my car back to me the same day, which I really like. With the great service I've been getting the past few years, I cringe at the thought of others working on my car. more
