Wonderful Food and Service 1/28/2011

I threw a surprise party for my boyfriends birthday at Beluga. I reserved the Blu room, on the day of your birthday you get 1/2 sushi and a free bottle of Champagne. We had a great time. Our server was fantastic and friendly. I had the Maui roll, Dragon Roll, Sunday Morning Roll and the Crazy Tuna roll. The Dragon roll was the best I have ever had in Cincinnati. The Crazy tuna roll was actually spicy unlike alot of sushi places that advertise spicy but are not. The sunday morning roll was good but I would have to say Dancing Wasabi's is better. All in all it was great, however we had a party of ten and the tables in the blu room are very small and we didn't have enough room for all the food, also you have to bend down to eat like you would if you were eating off the coffee table in your living room. I would suggest the blu room for a romantic dinner for two not a large party. I chose to go there, because of the 1/2 of sushi, but they added 20% gratuity so really it evened out to about full price. $65 for two people. more

Terrible Service for large group 1/16/2011

Had a terrible experience at Beluga. The service was horrible. We had a party of 16 with a reservation at 8:00. We showed up on time, but they were not ready. They told us they didn't think we were coming. We waited for 45 min for our table. When we were seated we had ONE waiter for the 16 of us. Needless to say, the waiter got behind on food and drink orders and we had to wait for an hour and a half for our food. We complained to the owner who then got three more people to help. We didn't start eating until after 10:30 (reservation at 8:00). When we finally wanted to leave, they messed up all the checks and we had to wait for over 30 minutes for just the checks. The owner did apologize and gave us a discount, but too little too late. I will never go back and would tell anyone looking to go there with a large group to stay away. more

Poor service and business practice 5/20/2010

This was the first time my husband and I visited Beluga. We went to check out the 1/2 price sushi on Wednesday evenings. We were pleased with the selection that was included in the 1/2 price promotion menu. The sushi was average but not outstanding. The service was poor. It took forever to get our order taken and then to get our bill. The biggest complaint was when we received our bill and were told that gratutity was AUTOMATICALLY going to be added because we participated in the special (prior to visiting I looked at Beluga's website and also saw an advertisement in a local paper that had absolutely no mention of this). When looking at the bill we were charged 30% gratutity (or it would have been approx 18% gratutity of the full price bill). My husband told the waitress he thought that 30% was out of line for two people. She took the bill and said that she would take it off. We left a good tip (probably too generous) but NOT the 30% they wanted. What an uncomfortable situation. If this is Beluga's catch to having a 1/2 price sushi promotion then make sure this is advertised too! We will never go back because of this. If a business can't support their ""special"" without hidden charges just don't do it. No one likes a ""bait and swich"". We will continue to go to the best sushi resturant in the tri-state area which is in NKY. You receive great service and sushi. Beluga should take a lesson. Pros: Good selection for 1/2 price sushi Wednesdays Cons: Service more

Great Place to eat relax and Enjoy !!! 7/15/2008

I went to beluga a long time ago just out of curiosity. The place was very nice and very up to date. The service was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the food and drinks there. The place is very relaxed and I very much enjoyed myself. The drinks are a bit pricy but it keeps the frat douches out. The seafood and steak there is very good. The management is very nice and tries to take care of you as much as they can. After 9-10ish it gets a lot more people because of the DJ?s that begin spinning. Matt Ice and Thaddeus are kick A$$ DJ?s and I always attend when they are there. Great time always!!!!! Pros: Relaxed and very enjoyable. Cons: Seating more

Awful Everything 4/27/2008

I took my friend from NYC to Belgua last night for dinner and agreed it was the WORST meal we had in ages! She raved about all of the other restaurants and bars in town we visited this week when she was here on business, but was DISGUSTED by the experience at Beluga. Until last night at Beluga, I never had a meal in my entire life where absolutely everything was bad. The previous evening we enjoyed a flawless dining experience at a different sushi place in town (that had way better prices) and we wished we would have returned there instead of mixing it up. It took over an hour before we received a morsel of food. We ordered appetizers that arrived last, the entrees arrived first and I still can?t figure out why it took over an hour for us to get our soup. I had to get out of my seat on two occasions to get our serves attention, and each time she told me she would be right out with the item and did not follow through. We did not have forks to eat our crab cakes and salads and we asked for forks when we ordered, and then again when the food arrived, only for me to have to go in and get our own flatware!! In my estimation, our server was either high or a simple airhead. My friend?s sushi roll was made incorrectly twice. All of our rolls were far more costly and appeared sloppy compared to the place from the night before. When I asked to speak to the manager who was less than apologetic, I asked to have our bill adjusted to AT LEAST remove the charge for the incorrect roll after waiting over and hour for a nightmare dining experience at a slow time early in the evening, she simply said, ?I?ll take care of it? then returned with only 20% reduced from the bill and the incorrect $14 was STILL on the bill. When I asked to speak to her again to have the roll removed she said she was not going to and wold only take that small percentage off the bill. Not a friendly atmosphere. Pros: location near other more enjoyable places Cons: poor service, lack of hospitality, more costly than better places more

Good for Cincy 8/19/2007

I'm an out-of-towner who stayed in Cincy for two month due to an internship. I was craving sushi and I went to try Beluga. I tried to look for other sushi places, but nothing could top Beluga's ambience and scene. However, the quality of the sushi is at best above average and could be better in spite of the price. Overall, Beluga is a good trendy place to socialize, drink sake and at the same time eat a decent piece of Toro sashimi. Pros: ambience, trendy scene, mojito and martini Cons: price more

Thanks for getting it right 12/26/2005

Sushi and Cincinnati go together like, well... Cincinnati and the word ""cool"" but Beluga makes it work. It's one of 3 places I'd actually take out of town guests. Why are there no other restaurants like this in this town? The sushi is good. Not the best in town but better than most. East/West coasters will be alittle more picky. The vibe is cooler than Cincy is used to. Hopefully the owners have a handle on the trends enough to change ad trends change. Thanks Beluga! Now how about a tapas place on the square next. Pros: vide, people, sushi Cons: expensive more

I'm one of the group of people who live in Cincinnati and work in New York City. In New York, we enjoy the best sushi outside of Japan. I have tried and eventually abandoned nearly every sushi restaurant in Cincinnati. My wife and I eat sushi every Friday night, so finding a top-rated sushi Cincinnati restaurant became my quest. Today, for the first time, we tried Beluga. Without a doubt, this is the best sushi restaurant in Cincinnati. It rivals the NYC sushi restaurants. Beluga doesn't yet realize it, but it its newest highly devoted customer. The only negative - parking. Pros: fantastic sushi, friendly service Cons: parking more

Superb ambience, food, crowd 10/12/2003

Beluga is simply a superb place where to spend your cocktail time, dinner and night. Such attention to detail is rare. You feel comfortable after the first step in, and the excitement grows constantly. I am a picky italian guy about food in general, especially Japanese, as well as ambience and music, but here everything has been taken care of. Music included. Style, value and fun. Cannot miss. Pros: Everything Cons: Park well, they tow more

Best in Cincinnati 8/20/2003

This is the best place to go for the 20/30 something crowd. The atmosphere is wonderful, the food is fabulous, and the service is incredible. I went there once in January and fell in love with it. I have gone back 2 to 3 times a month since. A must-go for anyone looking for something different than the usual scene. more

Very hip place to visit 11/1/2002

This is one of the best places to go in Cincinnati! It is great for dinner, but I go there for the nightlife. At night it turns into an awesome bar with techno-type music from all over. They even have a high-tech video screen that plays fashion shows from Paris, etc. No cover, but drinks can be expensive. Try the chocolate martini for about $11. Dark lighting, lots of candles, makes it seem elegant. It is also convenient to Tellers and the Pub, so you can go between the three for a great night out! Pros: music, atmosphere, location Cons: expensive drinks more
