A Bellaire Institution! 2/20/2010

A Bellaire institutution - I remember going there in elementary school -- many years ago when dirt was new!\r \r Wonderful burgers. \r \r Be sure to take your kids so they can see what "fast" food was! more

Good 12/15/2009

I got the Bellaire Special with onion rings. The burger was hearty and flame-broiled but not as tasty or flavorful as expected. The onion rings were alright. Pros: Unchanged more

When I was a little girl 5/10/2009

my family would take me there for burgers, shakes, onion rings and fries. That was 50 years ago and it is still there and one of my favorite places to eat. I love the #4...chili, cheese, onions! more

Best burger in Houston 3/2/2009

This has become my favorite burger joint in Houston and I haven't even tried the milkshake yet. Get the Bellaire special, a double meat, cheese and bacon burger that is not legal in at least 3 states. Be sure to have them cut it in half so it comes on a plate and you can catch all the goodness that is ussually lost in the little wrapper. Pros: Everything Cons: I did not know until I read this that they have milk shakes more

Decent burger, but not great. 2/19/2009

After seeing all the raves for this place we went to give it a try. Pros: Worn out building has 70s charm, ok burger, ok fries Cons: boring onion rings, ok burger, ok fries, not worth the hype more

WHATS GOOD FOR CHRIS!!!!! Great Charbroiled Burger-Just do it! 11/7/2008

I just got back from eating here! Very Good burger, charbroiled just perfect! I did add a pinch of salt. The staff was friendly, although the interior decor was not up to date, that's what made the place ( and who cares). It takes you down memory lane for some, an Old Fashioned mom and pop hamburger joint. The prices were extremely reasonable. Where else do you find a soft drink with refills for .80cents? I highly recommend this place for burgers. Very fast service, and best of all, they do serve beer. Pros: Great Burger , great service, they have beer more

A Timeless Institution... 8/31/2008

As already mentioned in other reviews, the Bellaire Broiler Burger is a fixture as the best burger institution not only for Bellaire, but also for the entire Houston area. Most average restaurants have to rely on their immediate neighborhoods to supply them with customers because their food is good, but not unique, memorable or lacks the ""wow"" factor. Not so with the Bellaire BB! People will drive for miles to get to one of those oozy, charbroiled, fixin' packed burgers! The place is regularly packed with vintaged patrons and signature grill smoke. One of my many blessings in life was growing up two blocks away from the Broiler Burger and practically being weaned on the ""Bellaire Special"" and the crispy krinkle cut fries! And although I am now 46 and live 25 miles away, I regularly find myself with that burning craving in the pit of my stomach and the unexplainable urge to drive to Bellaire! If you need a burger joint with contemporary decor, a waitstaff and a perfect grill ventilation system... go elsewhere. If you want a timeless juicy taste to your burger, a dark, unchanged retro decor and are willing to wait 10-15 minutes for the perfect burger to be cooked, then welcome to the Bellaire Broiler Burger! WARNING!!! Once you've had the Bellaire Broiler Burger experience, you'll have to fight the same primal urges as mentioned above! more

Burger is one of Houston's best! 2/15/2008

On fridays we go in search of the perfect burger and have quite a few ""burgers under our belt. Anyway, Bellaire Broiler Burger is one of the best. burgers we've had!!! The atmosphere is kinda of dreary and the ladies behind the counter are not only NOT NICE, but practically rude. That's too bad because the food is really good. Maybe a jukebox would help offset the lack of hospitality. more

Just What it Claims to Be, But Better 11/29/2007

For the past few months I have been checking out different spots that supposedly had the ""best burger"". So far I've tried Taste of Texas, Steak and Ale, Pappas, Becks Prime, a grill on San Felipe near Fountainview, and today Bellaire Broiler Burger. It wins hands down. I just go for a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoe, onion and pickel, usually with ketsup and mustard. Today, I tried the bar-b-q sauce. All the others were too big. Halfway through I'd be stuffed. This was just right, even had room for a half order of fries. Pros: The food, the ambiance the 70's atmosphere Cons: None if you're a fan of ""Diners, Dives and Drive-ins! more

OLD FASHIONED EXPENSIVE BAD FOOD! 3/23/2006

This place is great for the person who doesn't enjoy hamburgers. The service is awful and not friendly and the onion rings are bathed in dripping grease. The only pro in this place is that it keeps its old fashioned decor making you feel like you're still in the 70s. Overall if you're gonna have a burger just go to Burger King and have a 99 cent burger that surpasses the most expensive burger at this joint. more

Wayback Machine Time!!! 11/8/2005

Wow, this place is still as good today as it was 20 years ago... Big Burgers, awesome Onion Rings, and great fries!! Don't like nostalgic Houston joints, stick with the crappy chain restaurants that are all over Houston... Pros: Awesome Burgers, Onion Rings more

This is the best burger I ever had. 10/17/2005

If you want good food but not a snobby place to eat in, this is the place to be. I've been there at least three times and each time the food was excellent. Everybody that I've taken there enjoyed it and have gone back on their own. Hats off to a great place to eat. Pros: good food, on time service, worth the money Cons: bad parking more

The way a burger should be! 6/14/2005

Hamburgers should be juicey and tasty, BBB is both! The Onion wrings are a great side for their Double Bacon Cheeseburger. more

Best in Houston, hands down 8/4/2004

The Bellaire Broiler is everything a great burger joint should be. The 60's vintage decor was what drew me into the place, hinting at an undiscovered treasure. Any place that's been there for that long can't have bad food, and people don't go there for the ambiance. Try the Bellaire special, fries or GREAT onion rings, and a shake. If you are tired of burgers, the chicken strips or chili are great too. Pros: Best burgers in town, Great counter service, Fantastic onion rings Cons: , Dark interior more

Bellaire Broiler Burger 7/18/2004

Frankly, I too have been going there since I was little! They still have great burgers!! Every day at lunch they are packed, that must say something!!!For those hoety toety folks that can't handle the atmosphere, they must not be native Houstonians! more

Broiler Burger's the greatest! 6/10/2004

I too have been going to BB with my family since I was tall enough to sit on the booster seat, and it is exactly the same now as it was then. No, not fancy, no credit cards, closed on Sundays. And do you know why they haven't ""updated""...BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE TO!!! The food is so awesome it keeps the place packed all the time without all the superficial frills. ONLY THE BEST HAMBURGER IN THE WORLD, HANDS DOWN!!! Frankly, I'd be a little disappointed if they did redecorate. Pros: inexpensive, delicious food, DELICIOUS FOOD! more

how could you rate it poorly? 9/23/2003

Broiler Burger is absolutely delicious. It's been around forever (my grandparents took me there as a child) and it does look it, a typical greasy spoon place. But the food is outstanding, the best burger you'll ever eat! more

what is this??? 8/28/2003

The burgers are average. If you want to compare to BK, then yes, they're good, but if you're comparing to a great handformed burger made fresh to order (like the place next door), then it's horrible. The place is so old, so dirty looking that is cut my appetite. the presentation is not at all appealing, the value is 0 and the whole experience was a major disapointment. a D- at best. Not recommendable to anyone. Cons: too many more

The Broiler 8/13/2003

Holey Toledo, what a burger! As a religious connosieur of fine dining in Houston, a man with a patty-palate, the simple claim that Bellaire Broiler Burger is a ""good"" ""reasonably-priced"" establishment fails to pass the mustard. Their food, after all, is divinely tasty... could the Quaids ever be wrong about blue-collar dishes? The decor, you say? Well, if you're a consumer who actually needs clean tables and attractive wait-staff to enjoy an eating experience, stick with La Madeleine... we don't want you at The Broiler. You would ruin our view. This restaurant is one of a dying breed. In a world of fast food franchises, cookie-cutter suburban corporate diners, and bland, pseudo-upscale restaurants, Bellaire Broiler Burger is a beacon in the evening for anyone with the good sense to buck the present and live in Houston's urban gustatorial past. Personally, I'd rank it number one. more

Super Good... 6/29/2003

I don't know what's wrong with all these neat freaks... You can't enjoy super good burgers in a place that's TOO Neat or TOO clean. Have you ever taken a good look at neat and clean Mc*D's, or W*ndy's or any other PLASTIC Burger joint? Then, have you given them a high rating for taste, quality and atmosphere? This place has been a classic for 50 years and will remain so in my mind. I never miss it when I come to town. Get a LIFE, live and enjoy Bellaire Broiler Burger...NOT RELATED TO OWNERS...Earnie B. Pros: Excellent Food, Best Chili-Cheese bgr, Great Service Cons: Nada, Nada, Nada more
