Best

Authentic, good Italian in the heart of Times Square. Can't beat the price and the food is good.

Worst

Undercooked pizza and very uninspired pasta with tomato sauce (i.e. some store-bought ones are tastier) combined with, at times, slow service didn't make for a good dining experie...

Great 12/18/2011

WOW!!! Amazing Service and Amazing Food!!! 9/29/2011

We were staying in Times Square when my friend and I happened upon Bella Napoli. My niece, Bella, had just been born and I thought we should try it. I am so glad we did! The owner, probably the same wonderful gentleman mentioned in another review, was outside and welcomed us in. The ambiance was wonderful and the food melted in our mouths... it felt so authentic! I highly recommend the tortellini. On my next trip to New York, I brought my whole family. The same gentleman out front with a welcoming and friendly manner, the same great service, and amazing food. Our experience was so great we had our family photo taken with the owner and will come back on every trip to NYC! Now, if only they delivered to the Midwest... :-) more

A Fabulous Authentic Italian Culinary Experience 6/28/2011

We were strolling down 49th in search of a restaurant near our hotel. We walked passed a few places and came upon Bella Napoli. The owner, a man in a polo shirt was sitting out front asked us nicely to come in and said he would take care of us. Well, he certainly did. The place is a simple yet warm restaurant and you immediately know you are in for an authentic Italian experience. The waiters all spoke Italian (and English of course) and so did many of the customers which we thought would bode well. My wife and daughter found what they wanted on the menu but I didn't. When I asked for a variation on one of the dishes, our waiter Jimmy said they would make anything we wanted, any way we wanted it - no problem! After we ordered they brought us some of the best garlic bread we've ever had, oozing with garlic and oils. It's ""If you didn't come here with your wife, you ain't kissing her when you get home"" oozing with garlice. Yum.. The food was to die for, service was excellent and we were certainly well taken care of. Best Italian around. We returned a couple of days later for our last meal before leaving New York. My wife and I had a pizza and our daughter had the gnocchi in cream sauce. Both absolutely to die for. You definitely gotta check this place out. Grazie Mille to Jimmy and the staff! True Italian pizza - worth ANY trip 6/5/2011

After a long day of sightseeing, our group was looking for something quick and safe as well as a clean bathroom. After a false start in a soup and salad place, we found ourselves looking across the street at Bella Napoli. We decided to give it a chance more

Great Experience 4/17/2011

We just happened upon Bella Napoli as we explored Manhattan. First time was for a quick slice of NYC pizza and we were not disappointed. We dropped by just before leaving town and ordered from the menu. Also superb. We met Mr. Dominic and he was extremely nice and made us feel very welcome. I would highly recommend Bella Napoli to visitors and locals alike. more

Great food, Superb wait staff 3/31/2011

Excellent experience, although a bit pricey. The owner was very personable and gave suggestions on all that we asked... places to see, transportation issues, and most importantly, the great food! We had talapia (off the menu!) and veal as well as gnocchi. All well prepared with wine appropriately paired. Over $100.00 for three people. Maybe not unreasonable for NY... more

Great food at great prices~ 3/19/2011

After walking for blocks with my daughter starving and only finding super expensive and long wait restaurants, what a delight it was to stumble upon Bella Napoli. Although you wouldn't think so from the looks of it, the place sat us right away (at around 8:30 pm on a Thursday night), the ambiance was great with a guy playing Italian music on the keyboard, the food was delicious and affordable, and it was exactly what we were looking for! more

Delicious Midtown Pizza 2/13/2011

Midtown is a wasteland so thank goodness there is Napoli's pizza. more

a truly authentic experience 2/5/2011

Our family was just wondering around the city and came across this great little jewel. Great pizza and what a fun time with the staff - Mario was the best - playing and joking with our 3 year old son. We had a blast and wish we could order some takeout to Cali! more

Awesome Food, Great Service and Wonderful Prices! 1/3/2011

While visiting New York on vacation for New Year's, my girlfriend and I went twice to Bella Napoli. It was recommended to us by a tour guide. We were incredibly impressed. Mario, who is the owner and chef, is one amazing cook. The food was spectacular! The prices were very reasonable, and cheaper than elsewhere (given that the area can be pricey). The staff is very friendly, and the service is great. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to friends and family...and would frequent it upon my return trip back to New York. more

Really good, authentic Italian Food 7/3/2010

Found this place driving by it on a tour bus and noticed the host outside talking to some folks. He looked very happy. So, we tried it on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. We had Caesar salad, garlic bread, Chicken Parmesan, Pasta Primavera, Pizza, and a dish I forgot the name of with marinara sauce with green olives and anchovies over pasta. It was all great. The host met us at the door, visited with us and walked us to our table. He also checked on us during the meal. Entrees in the $9-16 range, very reasonable considering it is so close to Rockefeller Plaza. Will definitely go back the next time I'm in NY. Pros: Great food, very nice staff, reasonably priced Cons: Hard to find more

Great Pasta-every trip 6/2/2010

Food great- We make sure we stop every time we come for a day bus-trip visit to NYC. On 49th, so a perfect place to stop for dinner and a glass of wine before taking bus back home. Varied menu and everything we tried has been delicious. Prices very reasonable. It is a ""must"" finish to our shopping trips, and we have never been disappointed. Pros: Great pasta, good menu Cons: a little run-down more

Our Frist Stop In New York 4/10/2009

I'm glad I didn't go by any of the negative reviews on this site or we may not have stopped in. Pros: Good Food Cons: a little run down more

Excellent for Lunch - get there EARLY! 1/29/2009

While working in Midtown, my friends and I would go here for a quick lunch every once in a while. The first time we went, we had a very long wait, and learned from another patron that if you wanted to be seated quickly, you had to get to the restaurant by 11:45am. The choices for food were pretty good - they have a lunch special where you pick your pasta, you pick your sauce, and you pay one price. Sometimes we'd split a salad or an appetizer, but regardless, the food was always good. Pros: menu choices Cons: wait staff can be a bit ""colorful"" more

Editorial review from GrubHub 5/4/2008

Pizza arrives squished. "Proscioutto" is ham. Paid for extra "Proscioutto", but just got normal amount. more

Small portions 11/21/2007

I have to say that although the food is usually quite good . . most of the staff is very unfriendly and sarcastic. I think it's a family run business, so that might explain it. I work down the block so it's convenient. Went today and wanted a chicken dish ($6). The guy behind the counter places one very tiny chicken cutlet in a big alumunum pan for me. That's it! No sauce (it had mushrooms and sauce on the tray), so I had to ask for that! Then knew I would be hungry after just one little cutlet and decided to get the chicken/pasta combo instead for $8. Although that's not a lot of money, they certainly don't give you your money's worth. He made sure to give just a tiny amount of the pasta and broccoli I asked for. I'll make sure I just stick witht the pizza next time, although it will probably cost $5 a slice. more

AVOID LUNCH HOUR 3/4/2007

PIZZA WAS TERIBLE AND THE GUY BEHIND THE COUNTER WAS SARCASTIC AND RUDE! OWNER NEEDS TO TEACH HIS STAFF MANNERS! Pros: EASY TO WALK FROM JOB Cons: TERRIBLE FOOD more

Pizza was OK.... Service was typical 9/3/2006

Went there during lunch hour on Monday, so I guess that was my mistake. I guess not being from NY and not knowing how to order pizza was my downfall. The guy working behind the counter basically made me look like an idiot for not memorizing the slices of pizza. Being a tourist, I guess I should study up on pizza ordering in NY. Anyway, as for the pizza, it was good, but not great. We have a pepperoni slice, a cheese slice, and a ham and cheese calzone. Not bad, but not great. I guess it's okay for all the people who work close over there, but I wouldn't be making a trip just to get their pizza. more

Great lunchtime slice 10/6/2005

This is a great place for a lunchtime slice as evidenced by lines out of the door but service is fast. Far superior pizza to other establishment in the neighborhood. more
